What do you think?

Very smooth, nice vanilla notes. Very good, but probably overpriced.

Big thunderstorm roared through at dusk, and cooled things off. Mrssmokinjoe and Littlesmokinjoe are at the mall, and I've finally coaxed the Sheltie out from under the bed. :D. So, the two of us are hangin ' out in the garage...her with a Greenie bone, and me with a sensational pour of Larceny. Very relaxing evening.

Boulevardier while grilling lamb chops for dinner. OFBB '13 and ORVW 10/107 for dessert.

Worked late tonight, treating myself to a SA VOS 11 year while flipping back and forth between Brewers/Twins and Heat/Spurs. A little caramel, well balanced, just a nice pour.

Go Crew!

Following up the FR125th with some 2012 FRSmB LE. Digging the 125th a little more tonight, but I go back and forth. Can't miss with either though!

Evan Williams Single Barrel, 2003.

I had my girlfriend setup a blind tasting with the 2003 and 2004 tonight. I have had the 2003, which I knew I loved the general profile, but had not yet tried the 2004. Both were great, but the 2003 came out firmly ahead in both nose and palate. The 2004 has more of a classic sweet bourbon profile: plenty of caramel, toffee, and vanilla on the nose, a bit of a sweet bomb on the tip of the tongue but moves quickly to shortish oak char finish.

The 2003 on the other hand, is phenomenally complex. Not just toffee, but buttered dark chocolate toffee. The palate is like a caramel vanilla cream smoothie. Deep and rich, with a long pepper finish. I may have lucked out on my bottles thus far, but the 2003 EW Single Barrel profile is one of my all time favorites, regardless of price point.

Oh man......I live in Washington state now, where we don't get thunderstorms, but moved here from Ohio. I was just remembering last week how nice it was on a really hot day when a thunderstorm rolled through and cooled things off to the point where you almost needed long sleeves. Sitting out on the front porch with a whiskey on a night like that was divine. I do kind of miss it.

On topic, relaxing with some SAOS 7yr this evening. Beautiful pour.

JPS18 last night from a higher number batch.

While many don't, I do prefer these older products. They really have a depth and character not seen in younger examples

Best pours last night for me were Bowman Double Barrel and OFBB 13. Really enjoy both of them

my favorite way to enjoy a bourbon! One dog sleeping on the front door mat, oblivious to the storm, and another cuddled up next to me on the porch bench, quivering away. we havent had any good strong storms yet in Lousiville, but it seems the rest of the state has.

Finished a bottle of OWA a few nights ago, and so ran out of non-top-shelf wheaters. Couldn't find a store with it in stock on the way home yesterday, but one place did have Larceny on sale for $22.

I hadn't tried it before (too many other bottles to get to!), but it's definitely good whiskey.

popped open the new WTRB after doing more privacy fence work. A nice first impression, a good sweetness and not indicative of nearly 113 proof. Yet, with it twice the price of WT101, I cant say it is twice as good as WT101. Both are good

Lovely pour of a private pick of OBSV. "dusty dark chocolate/powdered chocolate" the label says . . . and that is spot on.

After dinner, went after the SB blend (70/30), and am loving that more than I should. TGIF!

Old Fashioned w/ Big Bottom Small Batch. That's some damn good bourbon by way of Oregon. Cheers!

Capping off a Friday night with some CEHT Barrel Proof. This hasn't been a fav of mine, but maybe I have just needed to prep my palate with a few oz prior, as it seems to be suiting me nicely now!

All this talk lately about HH 6 BIB, and I have a liter size somewhere unopened but too tired/lazy to look through the boxes. So when in Rome and trying to be a Roman, having a 4 year Willett picked by Liquor World about 2 years back or so that is surely, unfiltered 121 proof HH. Is fantastic with one ice cube in a Sampler WT glass from more than a few years ago.

had a bourbon flight with dinner tonight. Finally found a place that had Wathen's, so I got that, EC12, and KC. They accidentally gave me KCSB though. I wanted the KC as a known baseline, and to keep all of them within a few proof points of each other. I like KC and KCSB both. But, the winner was the EC, by a hair. Glad I tried the Wathens as a pour instead of a bottle purchase; I found it rather typical in profile.

Drank a sample flight of Turkeys tonight with bucky1 and a few dozen others including the inimitable Jimmy Russell. Great night and great to meet and hear stories from a living legend (he says that just means "old"). Actually liked the Forgiven the best of what was on offer. Got lucky and sat for about 30 minutes at the bar w just Jimmy and Jon and I before the dinner started. Just some bourbon guys shooting the shit. He could not have been more down to earth and gracious.

Good on you, fellas. Jimmy Russell is a Titan in our Bourbonia, and I have found him to be exactly as you describe. Ya know, a few years back, he would stop by the Gazebo, and visit with us. What a treat! Great to hear you got to spend a good time with him.
