What bourbon did you pass up today? Spring/Summer 2014

Passed on Rhetoric at a couple of places yesterday. I llike Barterhouse but don't understand the price hike on this one given that they have enough stock to release it over the next few years.

Saw a half-dozen 2012 Four Roses SB LE on a shelf today...passed.

It's not as good as 2013 and probably falling behind the 2014 depending on your tasting preference, for about $130, it doesn't seem all that bad. I also doubt you'll find many places here in the States that will still have a bottle left especially for that price. Strange thing with your attachment, it's the correct orientation on my pc but upside down on my iPhone.

I can't tell because I'm on my mobile, but based on the prices it looks like you're in Japan? If it were me, I'd take the Four Roses Fine Old and Platinum home. That's assuming you aren't fortunate enough to drink them regularly. They'd be interesting conversation pieces, and probably quite tasty.

I have a bottle of the Platinum in my collection, and it might be the best in show. It is soooo smooth and hit every possible note that I like. Wish I could get more of it on a regular basis because it is fantastic IMO. If I was in Japan, I would bring an extra bag and pay the cost just to load it down with as many bottles as possible. Just my $.02 on the subject matter.

To my knowledge, it's a regular. Myself and a couple local bourbon nerds just ordered some in. About $60 US plus ship.

I tasted it blind in a line up of 7-8 other bourbons one night and was really taken back. A richness and character I've come across only a few times. Everyone at the tasting was asked to rank their top 3 and it won by a landslide against some pretty good competition.

I'd gladly buy you an extra suitcase full of bubble wrap to hoof as many bottles as you can back to it's homeland.

At least half a dozen ETL's. They are getting scarcer around here, the most I've seen on any one shelf in a while, but I've still got two regulars and two Commemoratives in the bunker, so I didn't feel compelled.

in upper MI still....saw a heavily dusted WTKS with the neck band so faded I could barely make any of the handwriting out. all I could tell for sure was a bottled-on date of 05, and I think I could make out 101 on the proof. $48.

is this worth getting, or is it pretty much the same as current WTKS you find?

Good bourbon and a good price Fox. I'd say go for it!

Probably not. Even if it doesn't match up well in your eyes, look at it as an experience. It will probably still be solid and you can always share it with your friends. Plus, it will make a nice "vacation" pick up!

Probably just haven't noticed it before but Old Crow Reserve 86pf from Beam was certainly readily available today in one store. There were about 90 bottles on the shelf at $10.99 a 750. At least it is 4 yo age stated whiskey.

Right next to it was another 90 bottles of MGPI bourbon from Tin Cup.

Must have been a deal at the distributor today...

And did I see the future of BMH rye???

Finally this little oddity bottled by Georgia Distilling Co. in Milledgeville but obviously not made by them.

Don't think I have seen a bottle that said "Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey" before. Is Pritchard making their own bourbon? I seem to recall they make some things and source some of their stuff. At four years old I suppose the other option would be Dickel/Diageo?

In any case I passed on the them all.

Ok, having just bought a 2 yr rye, I can't say much bout the age. But $40 for 80 PROOF 2 YR RYE?!?! I would say they are on drugs, but scary thing is someone will buy it. Hey - that's like half the price of the new BMH rye, right?

of the few little stores I stopped into in MI today while out and about, I passed on what little they had. seems every store has EWB, JBW, JD, and Ezra Brooks 90. an occasional store will have a few more regulars, like BT or KC. I did stumble into one gas station yesterday that had the best selection Ive seen in this state so far, with everything from the 05 WTKS I cant get myself to buy, to OGD114, Ezra 101, Bookers, Basil, KCSB, and lots more. I was surprised to see the town gas station have that selection, when every liquor store so far has had barely anything. But, ive only been stopping in the state highway small stores.

Milledgeville GA? That's where I passed on a PVW23 not too long ago. It was $6,500. Hard to pass on.
