So, which did you prefer?

Nose - Q. Taste - V.

But one has been opened for months and the other for 30 minutes. The higher rye proportion in OBSV seems to contribute noticeably more depth.

took some Dickel 9 to a porch gathering at a friends house tonight, as the weather is awesome! Two bourbon friends were there. They both love raiding it when I bring it over. I think its funny.....these guys have been drinking whiskey/bourbon since I was likely in diapers, one an EC12 fan and one an Early Times fan. Lately, Ive turned the EC12 guy into a Bookers fan, and the ET guy into a WTRB and OGD114 fan.....quite a leap for both of them as I see it. Its a fun hobby.

Started off drinking Bookers with some friends, then finished of with a little GS OBSF. Booth are deceptively smooth for barrel proofers. And both are excellent.

Had pour of Woodford and Knob Creek at a gathering this weekend. The WR was poured over ice so was ruined from the get go with water only to have the girl to my right shatter a glass right next to it so it was a happy accident as I had only had a couple sips.

The Knob was something I have enjoyed in the past and its been a long while. I was very happy to find it still enjoyable as I have a serious aversion to JBW. Whatever I object to in that thankfully ages out beautifully and without a hind of lead pencil mid palate.

Poured a generous dram of Russell's Reserve, 10-year. Very nice pour; but I wish it was a higher proof... and non-chill-filtered. It would be superb at around 114 and NCF.

Forgot to post over the weekend what I was drinking. y4ytu3u3.jpg

I laughed pretty hard when I saw a Smooth Ambler of all things with a "FS/FT" label on it. So brilliant.

ECBP batch 2 to celebrate a truly great job offer! Hope to get paperwork started tomorrow.

Last night was an EWBIB night. It helps my taste buds when I occasionally stick to one bottle for an evening and especially if that one bottle is just a great all around Bourbon.

Cracked open a bottle of Rittenhouse Rye BiB last night after seeing so many positive mentions around here. Definitely didn't disappoint - I'm a huge fan.

Went with OESQ last night after another Royals loss...I really enjoy this one. Not as much floral as I'd expect, just good juice.

Had a visit from fellow SBer qman22 last night.

Enjoyed a few cigars, and tasted through far too many things for a Monday night. First release Booker's, Wild Turkey Japanese Tribute and Tradition, GTS 2010, WLW 2013, PHC4, HHSS, Blanton's Straight From the Barrel, some Old Scouts, and Very Old Scout, some bespoke blends of straight from the barrel Four Roses and Old Scout, and probably something I'm forgetting. 2am is too late to stay up on a school night. Certainly a great time!

EWBiB is quickly becoming one of my top pours--solid bourbon at a great price.

Opened up my first bottle of KCSB in more than a year and man this is wowsa! Creamy caramel with a punch. On my second pour and it's better than the first.

Getting my SAOS (7) on. A little hot on the veranda this evening, so hopefully this will cool me down.

Geez this KCSB is really hitting all the right notes!

What's more it's readily available and not overpriced.

Very nice line up.

What's some of your highlights on that flight?

Very nice line up.

The only thing that seemed outmatched was the WLW13 actually. Everything else was top notch. The cigars blunted the fine details obviously, but it was fantastic tasting so many profiles in relatively quick succession. The GTS is such a dark chocolate truffle of a pour, the PHC4 and HHSS make a phenomenal SBS with the sweetness of the cognac finish adding some depth, especially to the finish. The new Old Scouts are both 11 years old and absolutely delicious. Jawbreaker leads with a tight sweetness and expands like a hollow point to a huge spice finish that lingers. FS/FT shows more balance and has some candy apple and cherry on the nose and palate. Blanton's from the barrel has become a favorite of mine, as I've always loved that recipe, and the uncut bottle gives me exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not the biggest WT fan, but these are maybe the two best that I've had, the Tradition especially seems off profile and less woody than I'm used to older turkey showing. Old Booker's is damn good, but it's Booker's. Totally recognizable flavor profile.
