CL
Cracker Jack! (For those new to our fun group, that's Old Fitz BIB.)I have a confession to make. It took me a while to come to grips with this, but I have to face up to it. I am a wheater. I don't dislike bourbons with rye, but I can't stay away from the wheated bourbons for a daily pour. I just like that smooth, silky texture. I am drinking the OFi BIB because I finished AAA 10 yo a few days ago. I was reminded tonight that AAA 10 yo is getting rare, but that doesn't bother me as long as I have OFi BIB. Thanks, HH and Bettye Jo!
jeff
Tonight I am having my first tastes of Hirsch 16yo. Really quite different from most bourbons I am familiar with. Lots of fruit with a little cinnamon spicyness on the finish. Very Nice. I have also recently opened a bottle of the 20yo Hirsch and enjoyed it very much as well. I haven't decided on a favorite yet. Buckky
Bulleit : Frontier Whiskey !!........it is good but my curiousity is satisfied and when this bottle is gone, I won't replace it for a long, long time.
TNbourbon
I'm a 'wheater', too, but I realized it almost right away. Like you, I have nothing against rye-flavored bourbons -- in fact, I like straight rye whiskey (Van Winkle, Wild Turkey) every bit as much as bourbon. And I've managed to deplete most of my liter of Old Fitz BIB. Funny, I don't ever really ever relish pouring it, but then (as I've mentioned here elsewhere) I couple it with a fresh, soft Tootsie Roll or Kraft caramel and wind up going back for a second pour. Blackkeno
Got word my Hirsch 16 ships tomorrow, so I poured some of my current bottle. I followed up that with a pour of Blanton's. This is some good stuff.
jeff
Weller 12yo again tonight. Wow am I getting green apples in the nose tonight. I almost don't want to take the first drink and risk losing that smell. Here goes...Well, just as I suspected... THIS BOURBON ROCKS
kitzg
Heh, Heh,You are on to my regular pour now! The one bourbon I keep back-up bottles of. Greg
CL
How funny. I stole a Tootsie Roll from my son's Halloween stash while having some more OFi BIB tonight. But, my favorite is still Snickers. I bought this bottle of OFi BIB back in July in KY. I don't know how I held off opening it until this week. It's a liter bottle, but it's going down too fast. Next time, I'll get a 1.75L. Let's see, 1.75L of Weller 12 yo, OFi BIB, Buffalo Trace. I think that would cover my daily pour needs for a while.
MurphyDawg
Well Gawlee! I had Weller 12 as well. It seems very fruity (like a bag of mixed berries) to me tonight. This one is definately a gem!TomC
brendaj
CL, I have to face up to it. I am a wheater I was reminded tonight that AAA 10 yo is getting rare Awwwww man, say it isn't so. I am finishing my first bottle, and it's really excellent stuff. Elmer T. and Jim Butler both mentioned this Bourbon to me at the Festival, so I grabbed a bottle. MurphyDawg
It better not be, It is probably the bourbon I drink most often. If this is really the case I will have to bunker SEVERAL 1.75 liter jugs next time I can get some.TomC
Paradox
Tonight I was just in the mood for something different... So Manhattans it is made with, of all things, Makers Mark; Minus the bitters w/ 2 cherries. Not too bad, though I think a nice ryed bourbon makes a slight nicer Manhattan. Jal
I'm going to sit out on the porch with a glass of Rare Breed and a Fuente 858 nattie. Little nippy out there, so Im gonna bundle up and watch whats left of the eclipse.
Paradox
Damn, I forgot all about that. Enjoy though! I'm now drinking Manhattans made with Rare Breed mymself since I don't have access to my dad's MM.

TheRoff
As the learning novice, I bought a bottle of Eagle Rare (10 year old) and simple Ancient Age today, and have had a sip of both. I can say that neither knocks my socks off. Some nice citrus in the AA but it seems kind of dry on the finish. I am learning that I seem to prefer higher proof bourbons. Jal
Damn, I forgot all about that. You didnt miss much, Mark. Just looked like varying cycles of a quarter moon while I was watching. But DAMN it was cold out on that porch. 30 degrees by the thermometer out there. The single ice cube I had in my 3 fingers of RB never completely melted! I swapped the 858 for a Ashton VSG Belicoso to save on some time (cuz I was cold!). Great cigar, but the burn left a lot to be desired. I dont think my lighter liked the sub-freezing temp either, because it didnt want to ignite properly. I'm ready for spring Jeff
jeff
Tonight I popped the cork on a new bottle of Eagle Rare 17yo. This is fantastic bourbon and a value IMHO. One of my top 5 easily
CL
First, I finish my bottle of Weller 12 yo. Then, Virginia Tech blows their game with Pittsburg - with 5 min left to go in the game at Pitt with a 4 point lead, the VT coaching staff calls three sideline plays in a row, stopping the clock after each one. That cost us almost 1.5 min that we could have run off the clock. I told my son right then that those calls might have cost us the game. Pitt scored a touchdown at 47 sec left to take the lead. I don't mind geting beat, but I hate losing due to stupid decisions. As my Dad would say, Dangnabit!

robbyvirus
No lunar eclipse out here in San Francisco, since it's been raining all evening. So I stayed in and had a healthy pour of Blanton's. A great solid bourbon that never lets me down.
SSBourbon1
Finally bought a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 year and enjoyed my pour. Very mellow bourbon, good for the relaxation I needed after partially finishing a grouting project in the kitchen.
Paradox
Me and the Mrs. are spending the night in Atlantic City tonight and right now I am enjoying a very generous pour of Rare Breed while enjoying the view from the windows in the room.
