a change of pace....Ive been making bourbonballs and bourbon choclolate cherries lately, and thought it fitting to sit down with a neat pour of the HHBIB Gold label Ive been using to make those. quite enjoyable. is it wrong to enjoy a pour of a $9 bottle in a glencairn? me thinks not!

Finished off my bottle of 1792RR. As per usual for the bottles I'm trying to kill, it got quite nice as I got near the end. Funny how that works.

Followed up with a small pour of Ritt Rye, DSP-1 old label. I know it's a rye, but it drinks like a bourbon to me. I still don't get this one. It's just not for me.

Following that up with a Fox favorite, HHBIB 6yr. Pretty dang good for a $16 bottle. May need to stock up.

So, not what I drank tonight (under the weather), but my lady friend just finished her first semester of grad school today, and went out with friends. She called me at work, asking what bourbon she should bring that she'd enjoy and that others who don't drink much would enjoy. I recommended my spare ETL. She unfortunately took my only ETL Commemorative, which I hadn't opened yet as I was waiting until a few more other bottles were finished. She came back saying it was one of the best bourbons she'd ever had, and that everyone was commenting on how amazing it tasted. So, good news is that apparently it is as good as everyone says. Bad news is that it's all gone. Oh well.

The wife and I stayed in and watched Edge of tomorrow (fun movie), had 7yr WFE 61.15%, 8yr 1792 store select, mellow corn and finished with EWBiB.

Nothing wrong with it if you remember to keep your pinky extended.

After the BDL I had dusty OGD 86 and then some VSOF 90 proof. I liked the VSOF better this time. Last time it seemed too woody but this time it was better. Maybe air time in the bottle or maybe the warm up lap with the OGD helped.

Eleven year old Willett given to me at Thanksgiving. I embarrassed to say-it's really, really good!

Starting the evening with some basic Weller 12yr. I've been so caught up in the SB blend and other bourbons that I realized it had been a good long while since I tried the 12 on its own.

Damn fine bourbon. I think my tastes have changed because this is better to me than any ratio of the blend I've tried. Shame it's become so hard to find.

Mrs Fox took me to some b-day surprises today. First we went to a glass blowing place and made our own snowman ornaments.....then we walked around the corner to the Evan Williams Experience and took a tour there. they gave samples of EWB, EWSB, and EC12. I looked forward to the end of the tour and the gift shop, with the intention of buying the aforementioned new Evan Williams red label 12 year, but I guess it's not available yet. the EC was nice, but both the EW bottlings suffer from the proof point

then we were an hour early to meet friends for dinner and stopped into a place nearby, and re-tried Dickel Rye. I remembered it being better....

Cracked open a PHC7 I received as a gift awhile back. I'd tasted this before and liked it, but I'm really enjoying this now.

FRSB - second pour of second bottle from same barrel. The first bottle I remember being a cherry bomb from start to finish, but the first pour of this bottle was very herbal with little fruit. This second pour has been more muted on the herbs, still peppery hot and the fruit I remember from the first bottle is building.

Jeez it's cold outside with the wind blowing like it is so after going out to get the paper I'm starting the day off with some VOB 6 yr 100 proof in me coffee.

Last night I followed up Weller 12yr with '14 GTS (just love this, still my favorite), and '14 WLW (so powerful, still trying to get the hang of it.)
