Just checked my spreadsheet (so glad I made one!!) the current headcount is 44 unopened and about 6 open.

I don't know how some of y'all get to 150+, that's a huge amount of storage to have available....not an option in spendy ass LA area real estate math.

Bunker - 40ish unopened, mostly comprised of ND OGD, WT Old No 8, and various dusties from around LA county....and a couple BTAC/Pappy thrown in

Open - 25 or so, 50/50 split between bourbon and rye

I wish I had more 4R bunkered :(

Haha! Well you know I'm in L.A. and I'm north of 400. I just forego other things i guess. Besides, food and clothing would take up cabinet space.

You guys have made me feel better because I was kind of ashamed at how out of control I got a year or two ago. Seeing the size of some of the bunkers on here makes me just an average guy though. I have about 90 unopened (bourbon, rye and scotch...it's mostly bourbon though), and 6 open.

No matter how good you think you have it, there is ALWAYS someone better off than you. But,

no matter how badly you think your condition is, there is ALWAYS someone worse off.

That's the beauty of being average!

So I just did a head count. Bunker is at 165 bottles. I probably have about 15 open bottles upstairs.

What I found most disturbing is that I have 3 bottles unopened in random rooms. I'd feel better about myself if they were in the bunker and not just randomly sitting in the house.

75 unopened. 15 open on the bar. Over the last few years, my collection has grown, but over the last few months, I haven't bought anything, except wine (probably 100 bottles in my downstairs cellar---which is an extra bedroom closet that stays around 55 degrees).

My bunker is still the same as it was last time I posted. I finished a bottle, but I also bought one. Again, a wash.

Cheers! Joe

Wtfff are all you people serious? THIS is the reason there's a perceived shortage, not the fact that there isn't really enough to go around. Jesus

What you don't realize is that a lot of those bunkers were being built 10ish or so years ago long before the boom. A lot of guys here with huge bunkers are in fact primarily drinking from them and not purchasing as much as us newer guys.

Is there a perceived shortage because we're hoarding, or are we hoarding because there's a perceived shortage?

I have what practically everyone but those in this community would consider an enormous supply of whiskey. Amongst friends here, I have a decent but not abnormal bunker. I don't feel bad about collecting, hoarding, whatever one may wish to call it. Opened and unopened I have at least a hundred different varieties of bourbon, but it's not like I have 50 bottles of RHF or some 4R limited edition or something, such that my bunker is severely restricting the ability of someone else to get a bottle. And when I do buy multiples of something, I'm still more than willing to leave bottles on the shelf. I still contend flippers hurt this hobby far more than hoarders.

To your point, I didn't acquire 700 bottles in the last week. Seriously folks, let's think critically before leveling criticism. I was collecting when I could buy PVW15 for $36 or GTS for $45. Oh, and those GTS were purchased months after release. The "shortage", real or perceived has only manifested itself in the last 3-4 years.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say pinkfloyd4ever was injecting a little humor?

Hard to say. He's new, so we have no history to go on that tells us how to interpret his comment. Without that, we have to take it at face value until he clarifies.

I think the shortage comes from too many people drinking it. The word's out, bourbon is good.

i am new here as well and see peoples bunkers and go WOW! then I think to myself would i rather see a person who loves bourbon "hoard" bottles that I'm sure he/she shares with friends and family, or would I want some a hole buying up all the stock and trying to turn a profit. I personally vote the first one and hope in the future i pick my friends more wisely…….
