Picked up a Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 finished in an Amontillado sherry cask. Had been looking for the well regarded 2013 port finish but never did find one so will have to make do with this one I suppose.

I think it's still hanging out on the shelves in Maryland, sitting next to a lot of the 2014 as well. I could be wrong though, I haven't paid much attention to the Cairdeas releases.

Have the 2013 release open on my bar and would love one for the bunker. It is a wonderful expression of Laphroaig. Young. But definitely worth the effort. None of the 2013 left in NJ. I'm driving south next week, I'll try and stop for gas in MD and see if a quick detour is productive.

I'm not sure which version they have, but State Line Liquors is showing it in stock for $62. I'm not going to drive an hour and a half to find out, but if might be worth checking out if you're driving down from Delaware anyway.

Garbanzo: thanks! State line was my intended stop. PM me if you want me to pick one up for you. I can give to you 90 minutes south on 95

Nah, I'm good. I appreciate the offer though. I'm generally avoiding NAS single malts this year, beyond what I've already got. Well, excluding A'bunadh, if I drink through the one I have put away. Cuz it's delicious. But $62 is a great price for Cairdeas compared to the $80-$100 prices I see locally.

.That is too good a price for the 2013. But I'll find out. I'm a big fan of the A'bunadh. The batch 49 I have has a hole in it .

Going out to the long gun range in Western MD today to sight in a bottle action rifle I built 6 months ago and never had time to shoot, so i stopped by a spot I check in on every now and then. The results: Murray McDavid Littlemill 16 yr 1991/2007. It was a bit of a risk at $92 out the door, but the little information I was able to find suggested it was not ACEd and was of good quality. The small batching MM did back in the day at Bruichladdich also piques my interest.

And I did find 3x bottles of Cairdeas 2013, but they will be close to $100 out the door each. I think I can do better locally.

Lucked out and got another couple purchases:

Tomatin Decades for $99. If I like it, there are at least 5 more.

Signatory Vintage Ledaig 17 year (forgot the years) for $59 or $69, I forget.

If memory serves, I paid about $90 before tax when it was the current release - from a large discount liquor outlet here in NJ. I'd be surprised if you found it for much less than $100 as the 2014 is widely regarded as inferior to the 2013.

You missed the boat on Cairdeas- PA blew that one out at $26.99 last fall or late summer.

Macallan 18 for $129.99...there was one on the shelf and at that price, no way I pass it up. Asked if they would be getting more...nope

Curious if that is their cost or a price intended to clear the shelves quickly?

Not today, but this past weekend I made it to Campbeltown to tour the Springbank distillery. Managed to pick up some cool oddball distillery only Hazelburns - a 12yr cognac finished, and two 16yr first fill sherrys.

Which tour did you take? I'm stopping in Cambeltown in Sept. and definitely plan on hitting Springbank.

I just walked in and took the general Springbank and Glengyle tour. I hadn't planned in advance far enough to take a deeper one (that's for next time). It was also a Saturday, and I understand the time to go is on the weekdays, when the core staff is present.

Trying to learn more about Scotch. Picked up 4 bottles in the past month, including Glenmorangie Original, and Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, and Chivas Regal 12.
