I purchased a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet, Forty Creek Three Grain Harmony and Hennessy XO from the Big Red Liquors VIP Customer Appreciation Week Event. I also received a free pair of Riedel Scotch Glasses and a Johnnie Walker ice cube tray. Plus I got to taste Johnnie Walker Blue & Glenlivet 18 and lots of good food. All and all a special night.

Stumbled upon a CB Flaming Heart LE (Aug 2012) on a shelf; not that familiar with it, but read up on it and sounds like something right up my alley! Looking forward to opening it once my taste buddies return.

Picked up a 750 bottle of 12yo Monarch Glen today, a blended Scotch Whiskey. I have never had it, but I've heard good things about it. At $18 + tax, for a 12yo, I just couldn't pass it up.

I picked up a bottle of Compass Box Great King Street Artist Blend yesterday. It's a nice spicy expression and a creamy sensation in the finish.

Knappogue Castle 12 year NCF 92 proof store bottling. The standard is good, albeit mild due to the 80 proof. I would expect the NCF 92 proof store bottling to be much better, and for the same price to boot.

Quite a combo on Friday... I reimbursed a friend for grabbing me a Black Bull 40 down south and he revealed it's a batch 1 from 2009. I was so excited from that find I indulged more and grabbed a Flaming Heart 15th from my local. Want to open that one soon in case I want a backup (or two).

I've been chasing this bad boy down since I tried it on Father's Day. Was fortunate enough to get two bottles. I will be pinching off these for a while.

Anybody seen any sign of the newest Longrow Red edition for 2015 which is a 12yo finished in Pinot Noir for its last year? I saw it in Scotland in September but didn't buy one because I hoped/expected to see it here eventually.

I can't be sure, but I thought I saw either a cabernet finished bottle or a pinot finished bottle on the shelf with the Fresh Port bottle. I haven't had much experience with wine cask finished whisky and I am a sucker for port finished peaty whisky (sipping a Cairdeas 2013 right now and loving it) so I went with the fresh port cask bottling. Is it possible that a cab finished bottle was still on the shelf? If not, it was the pinot finished product.

The Cab (2012) and the Australian Shiraz (2013) were before the Port version in 2014. The Pinot Noir is the 2015 version. I haven't seen it in the US yet but if you do see it let me know!

Yes, I noticed that over the weekend as well. And promptly ordered one!

As of this weekend, it hadn't hit Binny's yet. It's definitely on my radar, but $110 at K&L?? The Shiraz and Cab were $80 and the Port was $100... At least around here.

The Fresh Port Casks I got (in Texas) was $85 before tax.

I have heard the price of whiskey is going up...

I will likely be that much or more if it ever arrives in Atlanta so the premium to be sure I get one seems a necessary sacrifice!

So after passing up Japanese whiskey for years, I decided to dabble with a couple of expressions. I quickly realized that like everything else in the whiskey world, I sort of missed the age-stated boat. Luckily, with a few stops in about a week-long period, I cobbled together some age-stated staples, such as the Hibiki 12, Yamazaki 12, and Taketsuru 12. None were what I would call cheap, but none were jacked up gouging either. And fortunately, after putting in the effort and money, I do like the whiskeys, so this was not an utter waste of time and money.

Hibiki 12, which I like a fair bit, still lingering on shelves in my area. I intend to get a bottle before the age statement vanishes but there's too much other scotch that will likely fill up my budget before I can get to it.
