OGD BIB tonight. Last night went with mckenna 10 yr. Bib.....wasn't overly impressed. I'll have to try again in a few days.

McKenna is a single barrel release so if this one doesn't come around for you, don't write off this brand. I wasn't very impressed with my first McKenna and decided not to buy it again. Continual positive reviews here prompted me to try again and I was glad I did. It's now among my favorites. I still get a mediocre barrel from time to time, but most are great to my palate.

Started off the evening with a nice pour of FRPS OBSQ and decided to follow that up with some regular BT.

HW American Prairie Reserve.  This has been sitting around for a few years unopened. Nice blend of LDI and Four Roses, sorry I didn't buy a few more when I had the chance.

It is still around. Probably a different batch now though on the shelves. Now has a pronghorn antelope on the label instead of a prairie chicken. And probably whiskey from a different source as well but still noting at least some bourbon as old as 13 years.

A nice glass of Makers 46 before the Blues game.

A nice no nonsence bourbon.

Love it

Weller Antique 107 on deck.

RHF to start, then I think I will have a OWA single barrel or WTRB 112.8.

E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof Batch 1.  I think it was batch 1.  67.7%.  At any rate, the nose is yuuuuuuuuuuge, even with water.  Lots of spicy rye notes.  I stand by my assertion that this feller is pretty young, and I don't think that's a bad thing.  At the halfway point in the bottle, tastes like a slightly more tamed 2012 Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye.  Good stuff.

Last night was at a restraunt that had etl so went with that. I thought it was fantastic, really need to track down a couple bottles of that. Followed up with Breckenridge (since I'm in denver), wasn't impressed with that one.

That is my experience too.  The first one I tried years ago (old label) didn't do much for me.  I stayed away until I decided to give it another chance.  Ever since then, I'm a big fan.

That has been my experience as well.  I recently found a barrel I like so I am going to grab a few more bottles.

This is a late post, but last night I very much enjoyed a glass of Knob Creek Single Barrel on a large ice cube. Just the standard retail release, not a store select. I gotta say, though, it's a damn good bourbon. The ice is needed IMO, but I love that even the final, much-diluted sip is full of flavor.

Even better is the fact that I got this bottle for $29.99 when K&L was clearing the shelves to make room for their private barrels.

Cheers!

I have really enjoyed standard KCSB. At $29.99, it would be difficult to pass up a bottle or two. Private barrels can be exceptional.

Speaking of HH BIB's, OF BIB sure is tasting mighty good right now!

Old Fitz, not Old For as the acronym underline thingy implies...

It was a Weller 12 type of night after getting some dental work done. Helped with the numbing process that is for sure.

Sipping on more of the Stagg Jr./OC8 blend. It's firing nicely tonight.

HW American Prairie at a barbecue joint. I expected it to have more rye spice from some reviews and from combination of LDI and 4R bourbons.  But I found it very nicely rounded. I want to try again because it could have been the spicy barbecue threw off my palate or that the bottle had just breathed a long time, but the "rye" notes were more grainy and herbaceous (which I like). It was fairly dry, yet flavorful with rounded notes of light honey and vanilla throughout. Definitely worth another pour.

Having some EHT Seasoned Wood,  this is a very good bourbon. Very smooth and easy drinking with a little bite.

Having a pour of SAOS BS 9 year at 122 proof. Opened the bottle a couple of weeks ago and didn't get much in the way of flavor. Not sure if it's the air or a better night for my palette, but I'm getting flavor and a really nice heat and long finish. Glad I gave it another shot.

JD SB BP.  Trying a pour currently at a bar.  Nice whiskey but I'd have a tough time paying $70 for a bottle.

I reached for the Noah's Mill tonight.  Good nose and mouthfeel, a little hot/youngish bite, with a fair and lengthy finish.

Which batch ya got there sir? These can really vary (as has been my experience).

I'm still on the Stagg Jr./OC8 blend train. Trying to kill some bottles and the OC8 is almost empty.

Checking back in because I made a late call to crack the Booker's 2016-01 I just purchased this evening. Dang, powerfully good stuff.
