I do the same with St. Bernardus 12 - a once a week treat.  Maybe once every two weeks.

Haven't had that one yet..it's on the list.

This one from Upland is exceeding my expectations. Only bought the single from Kroger. Will have to pick up some more.

They do age nicely as well though.

Cheers!

I opened up a regular Old Guardian from 2013 and it was pretty nice - definitely aged well, as you said. I liked it a lot more than the smoked version. Still have one more bottle of it that I'll let sit for another year or two.

Oh man, TGIF.  Starting the decompression journey with a Terrapin "Luau Krunkles" Passion fruit-orange-guava IPA.  This was part of a mixed 12pack I picked up, and from the beginning I was hesitant on this one as I tend to not care for the fruity mixy beers.  Very pleasantly surprised that I really like it.  The fruit notes are muted, and tones down the piney/grapefruit things.  Nice balance and mouthfeel.  I can see myself seeking this out again.

Evil Twin Even More Jesus imperial stout. This one is big and roasty! Good beer for the winter months.

Had to open one of the Goose Island Bourbon County Stouts I picked up earlier this week. I don't always recognize or value balance, but this has a noticeable and beautiful balance of flavors.

I had a Bourbon County Coffee Stout yesterday that was also very well balanced.  I hope Goose Island can avoid the infections issues that occurred last year.

I hope they can too, although admittedly, I'm hoping one (just one) of my bottles from last year is "infected". I want to try a sour bourbon county stout. I had a Bruery Bois a few weeks ago that seems to have soured a bit in the bottle and it was delicious.

Great Lakes Blackout Stout while Littlesmokinjoe and I watch movies.  Just like the old days.

The Mighty Mullet IPA from Plymouth Brewing Company. It's always better drinking the beer at the brewery :)

Having a DFH Breakfast Stout. It's ok. I'm a sucker for a coffee forward stout though.

I have one of these, will get to it shortly.

Cheers!

Cozying up to the hotel bar in MSP on a friggin' damnass cold night with a bowl of French Onion Soup and a Summit Brewing Dark Infusion Coffee Milk Stout.  Both are working tandem to warm up this Southern Boy as it heads to -11 tonight.  This beer is exceptional.  Pic from the site.

Last night split a St. Bernardus Abt 12 Barrel Aged and Allagash Curieux Bourbob Finished at family holiday party.  Both were very nice but the St. B was better.

That

St. Bernardus Abt 12 Oak Aged

would definitely be a nice one to try.

Cheers!

Finishing up a bottle of Cascade The Vine 2012. It's very easy to drink and has an interesting grape kool-aid flavor in the background that is quite nice

Sitting at a bar watching the Blues toss away a game in overtime. Fortunately, this Charleville Whiskey Scented Santa makes it tolerable.

Something almost seasonal . . .

Image result for bells oatsmobile ale

Score 3.9
look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Beautiful shiny copper colored ale with a thick white cap and good lacing.

Aroma is of bright, spicy hops covering rich malt. The hops carry a darker shade of the spectrum while remaining in sharp focus. Malt is light caramel that comes across as clean rather than sweet. Hard to say which comes first, malt or hops, as they appear to be blended together so well.

Taste is tasty. Hops are present from start to finish but they work with the malt rather than disguising it with a hop tang. Finish is clean, crisp and leaves a mildly flavorful hop note in the aftertaste. The whole displays a complexity that falls seamlessly together so well it makes the effort appear effortless.

Body is medium-full with a rounded character that shows no sharp edges.

Overall this is a very well balanced brew that touches all the bases.

I really enjoyed the sixer of Oatsmobile I bought a few months ago.  I think the oats in the grain bill enhanced the body of the final product quite well.  The ABV is still slightly high for a "true" session ale (according to my arbitrary definition, a true session ale is 4% or less), but the quality is definitely there.
