Having the last pour of a Michters 10y SB.  I did not want to put it in the empty bottle support group (2017) because I think that should be for the bottles that you truly enjoyed drinking.   Not that it was horrible but it was definitely the worst Michters10 year I've ever had.

Never seen any Michter's around here.

Today is a completely ordinary Friday. Sometimes you don't need a special occasion to drink a special whiskey. Sometimes drinking the whiskey IS the special occasion.

Indeed - for a 25ml pour I was adding around 10-15ml of water.

Wow,that's a lot.  No wonder it tasted different.  I figure it's down around 70 proof after dilution.  Whatever works.

Bought my first bottle of 1792 Full Proof a week ago. Found the nose really tight and nothing but burn on the lips when taken neat. Added just a tiny bit of water and, wow, did it  open up the nose and release a cascade of flavors on the palate. I have never experienced such a dramatic change/improvement in any bourbon before. Generally,  I enjoy sipping barrel strength bourbons uncut--Bookers, 4R, ECBP, KC SB, WTRB, and, O boy, Stagg Jr. The Full Proof (or Fool Proof as Mrs. F calls it) will always get a splash from now on.

A brand resting on the laurels of lucking into great glut whiskey at the start of the label. But still pricing very proudly. And who can blame them as they fly off the shelves.

I've only had two pours from the bottle and love it so far. The only other WLW I've had was either the 2012 or 2013 that a buddy had. I drank a lot of that bottle but it was early in my bourbon journey.  I loved it, but i can't recall enough to compare to this one.

The 2016 is perfectly drinkable neat. It tastes wonderful. I'll have to spend more time before I try to pick out the individual complexities of the flavor but I am comfortable saying that it is a very well executed iteration of the profile. I followed it up with an OWA PS that I absolutely love, and it was not even close to the WLW. Good job by me for research purposes but I'll not do that again! I'd rather enjoy that OWA when it's the star of the night.

Anyway, I paid $300 for the WLW bottle and while I'm disappointed I couldn't find it at a retail price I don't regret the purchase at all. Indeed, after tasting it last night it reaffirmed the purchase for me. It would not have been the choice others would have made, but WLW is probably my favorite bourbon and if I can't find it at retail, I'd rather pay more than go without.

I missed it at retail, but if can get it for 300 bucks, I will pull the trigger too. I don't see myself without a bottle of WLW. Don't be disappointed, enjoy it.

Cheers!

Will.

Agree 100% about the water with 1792FP. Too much burn neat, but man it's one of my favorites with a splash of water.   I've bunkered a couple bottles of a local store PS , it's a solid value at $49.99.

I'm holding down the fort today while my wife is away taking care of other things. After doing some household chores, and having a quick lunch, I decide to relax a bit with a couple of small snippets of EW BIB and HH 6 BIB:D Good stuff. Now back to work.

Cheers! Joe

Looking like a HH night for me - started with the remnants of the bottle of HMK10BIB opened earlier this week and I have my eye on a little crock of EW Master Distillers Select for the next pour

My bunkering rearrangement earlier today unearthed some forgotten bottles.  Before, heading off to dinner with Mrssmokinjoe, I'm dipping into a Lot B that's been in the back and open for a while, and purchased a while before that.  Still excellent whiskey, even while stored without wrapping.  Tasting it now, I remember why I liked Lot B so much in the past.  Nice oakiness, while maintaining that sweet juiciness.  To my palate, that fine balance spiraled down to just sootiness along with Weller 12 over the years.  Now, Lot B is my least favorite in the line.

Does that price tag read $39.99? Those were the days, huh?

That a price tag is even on it suggests it was actually sitting on a shelf - gasp!

Bet it wasn't on the shelf for long! I remember about 10 years ago or so passing up shelves full Lot B for $45. Stupid ijit...

Some WT101 getting ready for the UK/UF game. Probably switch to ER10 in game and then a victory pour of Blanton's.

Picked up a bottle of OF 1920 yesterday. Enjoying some now. There's definitely a sweet banana aroma coming off the nose. Nice in the mouth, no overpowering bite. Nice creamy caramel finish that really lasts.

That $39.99 price tag on the bottle of Lot B makes me envious.

What a blast from the past on the price, huh?  Hopefully, you took Mrssmokinjoe someplace nice, just because.

In the general scheme of things, nothing special, just EC NAS.  However, isn't reasonably priced quality bourbon something special in and of itself?

Yep, but it was at about that price that I began to leave it on the shelves.  I remember when my local store did a private barrel of Lot B in 2005ish.  I was incensed that they dare price it at $39 when the everyday street price was $29.  I bought a few just to support them, but dozens and dozens sat there for years 1/2 mile from my house...I am a dumbass.
