I think I am on the fourth iteration; I liked ALL the releases and none better than another so even though they are single barrels at different proofs, I'm not bummed when an iteration is replaced. And that is true even when I add a little water; as long as I keep it around 100 or more, it is fine. Good to know. I suppose it's worth a try then. That said, I can believe the comments that there are occasional problems with JD single barrel selections. I was going through my old tasting notes today, and found that a bottle of JDSB I sampled years ago was the only whiskey that I ever graded a "zero = foul" -- my scores range from 0 to 4. My notes say "flat coke, cloying simple syrup". This was a European bottle at 90 proof, but I wouldn't expect that to make such a significant difference. I finished off the last small pour from a bottle of M46 last Friday night and then topped it off with some MMCS. I was pleasantly surprised how good the blend was. Try it out when you get the chance. PaulO
Another one I'm rationing; Old Forester Sig older label (like first decade of 2000s). I love this liquid pecan pie stuff. Too bad more recent version disappointed. I'm thinking about taking a chance on the new paper label OF 100. Any thoughts?

Houston, One more pour would've likely resulted in yet another syllable, while (possibly on the upside) creating a fourth Baltic state! Possibly....... I read what I wanted to see and noticed the actual spelling a bit later. I thought, eh, what the heck, that works too.
HoustonNit
Houston, One more pour would've likely resulted in yet another syllable, while (possibly on the upside) creating a fourth Baltic state! No I'm pretty sure it's a Yugo country and not a Baltic state. I think our resident Macedonian bourbon fan can agree to this.
BourbonDude
Cooperstown Distillers Doubleday Baseball Bourbon. Bought it in Hyde Park, NY on the way to Lake Placid. In tiny print it says aged 6 months. Price was $53.99 plus tax. Comes in a wooden box in this baseball shaped bottle. Unfortunately about the only thing special about such a young bourbon was the bottle, which is too bad, because this is one of the few craft bourbons I've tried at such a young age that had some real flavor that, with proper aging, might have developed into something. Found it at a small liquor store near the B & B where we're staying. They didn't have much of a selection and this was at least something I hadn't tried and was unlikely to ever see again, so I went for it. Not as bad as most of the underage, over-priced craft juice I've had but still way too young. I'll use it at my next tasting to show the attendees what extremely young bourbon is like and why not to buy it.

I've only had the opportunity to work on one bottle of the new label OF100 so far, but I find it a lot closer in nose and flavor to what I've always loved about Old Forester bourbon than some of the recent Signature bottles. I didn't find the "newer" OFSig to be a bad pour or off-putting, but just didn't always seem to have the flavor I expected. The OF100 I've got open is considerably better... I even did a SxSxS with a bottle of OFSig and some OF1920 and found the nose and flavors on the OF100 to be a "less full" version of the 1920 offering. The OF100 wasn't as thick as the 1920, but was definitely closer in overall profile than the bottle of Sig I was tasting from. Give it a try... I don't have the most sensitive palate or discerning tastes so I'd be interested to see what others think of the new label OF100.

hn4bourbon
Had a really tiny pour each of 1792FP SP and KCSB SP last night. Ended the night with some BT SP. The BT hit all the notes for me last night. Could be my palate asking for a break from all the high proof stuff recently. This store-picked BT tasted like powdered sugar on initial sip and then the layered complexity shining through the sip with a fairly long finish. Really enjoyable. Hop
Long day of vacation doing some yard work if you can call what we are dealing with a yard. Anyway I went into my office to pour my first for this evening. Had trouble deciding from the open bottles. It there was a Makers in the center of the shelf and I thought why not. I normally only drink Makers when out to dinner or at a bar when there aren't a lot of options. It's a good bourbon but I do seem to pass over it most of the timeSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

kevinbrink
Opened a bottle of Yellowstone that I picked up for $30 upstate, I remember enjoying it when I was at Limestone Branch last November. It's a good pour, if I had to guess the source I would say Beam as that familiar Peanut thing is there which I personally dig. Also picked up last years LE since it was on sale for at the local Stew Leonard's, might just crack that sucker as a follow up pour.

My wife wasn't able to attend the show in Seattle with me last week so this is as close as it's going to get for her. I have more Russell's and a recent 4R pick on deck. fishnbowljoe
I had a number of things with our local bourbon/cigar group tonight. We had MM and KC from the bar, and amongst the things we brought to share were a SAOS SB 9yr 108 proof, an unknown, (probably HH6 BIB), and I brought a sample of a port barrel finished whiskey from The Traverse City Whiskey Company. Despite a few intermittent rain showers, it was still a pretty good night all in all. FWIW, I think the SAOS was pretty much the favorite. Cheers!
