Been working on tasting through a lineup of GlenDronach; last night was the discontinued 15 yr Revival, 18yr Allardice, and 21 yr Parliament.  Not a bad pour in the bunch, and surprised that I liked the 15 yr best (not sure why - my palate seems to gravitate towards what it can't get anymore in some sick twist on Murphy's law!)  All are big on sherry as you'd expect, but the 15 yr seemed better balanced with some brighter notes.  I get this interesting balsamic vinegar note on the nose that I really dig.

Cotswolds single malt from England. Very nice for the age (3 years). Similar in profile to Westland I think in terms of young but tasty and certainly much better than the age warrants.

Excellent-- how was your dram?

Have you popped the Shackleton yet? That picture reminds me that I've got one hanging around somewhere that I need to try-- such a cool pack.

Fantastically assertive, I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to making my way through the bottle. I haven't popped the Shackleton bottle yet but I did browse through some of the stuff in the package, it really is nicely put together.

A bit of Tobermory 10 at the airport this morning, to counter the effects of the 5 Hour Energy consumed on the 3:00am hour plus drive.

After 32 years in oak, this beauty still retains its balance and complexity. To think it was collecting dust in a half pint Jack Daniel's package store. I'm just glad it made it home in one piece.

The Benrinnes, even at 46%-- is so oily and dense in distillery character. Incredible mouthfeel-- what a bargain.

Explored some of the Glenfarclas line-up last night, including the 10yr, 12 yr, and 105 Cask Strength.  Wasn't impressed with the 10 yr, but was amazed how much of a step up the 12 yr was!  I'd had the 105 CS before and always enjoy that - especially how much that sucker clouds up in my glass with just a bit of water (gives me goosebumps to watch a dram do that!)

Highland Park Einar, from their warrior series of whiskies. Our cruise ship has a pretty limited selection of whisk(e)y, but this one has kept me happy the last couple of nights. No age statement and only 80 proof, but it's an enjoyable dram with just enough smoke to keep me happy.

Continuing on my exploration of Glenfarclas tonight, starting with the 12 yr (which I really like) before moving to the 15yr and 17yr.  The jump from 12 to 15 is pretty modest (compared to the leap from 10 to 12); fairly similar to the 12 - a tad less sweet and a bit more of a spice edge.  The 17 strikes me odd - it almost seems like a step backwards to me.  It looks lighter than the 15 (closer to the 12) in color, and is much brighter.  I was convinced this used different wood from the rest, which isn't the case.  Hmm . . . just means further study is required :)

The 'ole smeller's been suffering lately on account of allergies and being sick... Finally getting over it and had a killer ride today w/ a great crew.

I'm really enjoying this Inchgower-- so delicate and unusual, with a nifty spicy twist. Too bad the cost to bring it into the States negates the incredible value.

I was not expecting the color on this one-- nor anything else. It's like the vintage Good & Plenty licorice candies soaked in an unsweetened Fernet Branca. The Tobermory 10 is very docile and this is anything but. You want to immediately hate it and simultaneously pour another dram of it (which I did). Awesome.

I've never seen a Balblair anywhere near my market and it's a damn shame-- this is such a well-balanced and beautiful malt. After several challenging pours tonight-- it's even somewhat soothing, but at 51.3% also somewhat deceiving.

Interesting that the younger Balblair put this baby in the corner tonight…

Second run at this SMWS Glen Grant 26 yo and it's still very one-sided and the weakest dram of the night.

And on to the G&M Mortlach, which seems awfully suppressed…

What a nice dram… even at 26 years, the cask influence doesn't dominate the experience.
