Certainly not as old as they once were!

The age there is certainly not set in stone but I would have to guess that it could be a sign of what is to come. Optimistically though when they got approval for the TN single Barrels they had an age of 4 years listed and those were 13 years old.

Dickel apparently has a glut of well aged whiskey, but I’m going to guess that we won’t be seeing any 13yo MGP bottles being released, and I’ll be shocked if many are released that are 10yo or older.

I’m curious about that one too!

That one was filed quite a while ago I tried digging it up but numerical searches in the name field don't work super well on the TTB site. I think I posted it here but it may even be before I started this thread.

The number of submissions for finished bourbon seems to be on a steep incline in a category usually (and some would say still) dominated by flavored whiskeys, I can't be bothered to list them all, just know wherever you live your local craft outfit is probably sourcing some whiskey or covering up whatever travesty they are making by finishing in casks that formerly contained something sweet, just a couple at the top that grabbed my attention.

Tincup used “Mountain Whiskey” on their standard expression because it was sourced MGP teaspooned with Stranahan’s. Not sure why they are using it with the Straight Rye.

Kevin, thanks for taking the time to put this info up every now and then. I know all of us bourbon geeks appreciate it.

Thanks, before I posted here I was looking myself so it isn't really a big deal, before that I would just follow SKU's blog for his weekly synopsis. I've basically been posting these for around the same amount of time I have mostly abstained from drinking so it's a nice way to still feel like part of the community.

Jefferson's Straight Rye Finished in Cognac Casks, interestingly enough filed by Luxco

Old Settler 12 Year old KSBW which appears to possibly be barrel proof, bottled by Boundry Oak Distillery

Old Elk Straight Wheat Whiskey

Elijah Pepper 107 proof "White Dog" Corn Whisky, is this the first of their distillate?

McKenzie Single Barrel Straight Rye

Greg Metze was pouring the wheated Old Elk at TOTC. He's so damn nice and obviously knows what he's doing-- but it smelled like teen spirit.

For everyone who fears that "Finishing" will devolve further into "flavoring"

Good Lord, finishing bourbon in used rum barrels with pecans.......

I suppose I shouldn't bash it without trying it first, but the only good thing I see with this one is the 106 proof, which I certainly give them credit for doing.

Interesting that the Old Settler says distilled and bottled in KY.  Boundary Oak hasn't been in business that long so undoubtedly he sourced it from someone (Brown Foreman, Beam, Heaven Hill?).  Inquiring minds want to know.

Breaking Bourbon got a bottle to review, so I expect we'll see it soon: https://www.breakingbourbon.com/review/1792-aged-twelve-years

They don't seem to be impressed with it, but their notes highlight things I tend to like, specifically dry and oak-forward notes, so I'm excited.

I had the good experience of trying a few BC picks a couple months back and they were all good (KC, OESV - I think, and a Willett - maybe 6 years).  I'm sure you guys did a good job with this one.  That seems like a pretty amazing bottle.

Glad to hear you liked the picks.
