I will go at this topic from a different perspective - which one of these will surprise me the most?

 

I would open the Old Pepper - not saying its the best, but I am thinking you will love it like I do and appreciate the value and availability.

 

Quite the collection you have, way to go!   Enjoy opening them all when the time is right.

Since there’s been some discussion of MM 101 lately, I thought I’d post a pic of the MM side of my cabinet. Sorry it’s not the greatest pic. As I’ve said before, my bourbon/computer room is being used for other storage too. The boxes for our new kitchen faucet and sink are in the foreground. Someday……..

 

I just finished an MM 101, and have bottles of MM and MM 46 currently open. In the cabinet are:

 

1-MM Colts Super Bowl  bottle signed by Dave Pickerell and Bill Samuels

1-MM Ambassador bottle purchased at the 2008 KBF

1-MM liter from my MM Ambassador barrel

1-MM

1-MM 46

5-MM 101

I had some MMCS the other night, man is that tasty.

 

Joe, when you got bottles from your barrel, did MM tell you when to come get them?  The reason I ask is I believe they age it from 6-8 years and I'd like my "portion" to age as long as possible, didn't know if I could delay the bottling to get slightly older product?

I am not part of the Ambassador program so Joe may have more information.  It’s my understanding that MMs goal is for every barrel to taste identical. Thus they age/rotate locations to fit a specific profile and the average age ends up 6-8 years. This is why the stave finishing program was developed to create unique flavor profiles in an otherwise homogeneous product.  
 

So my guess is that MM would not want additional aging past the point where they feel a barrel has reached its desired profile. But never hurts to ask?

 

While doing so can you also request they do a 12yr 101?

First the increased consumption with covid and later working 2.5 jobs (for fun, not out of hardship) with no quality sipping time to motivate new purchases have all destroyed my stash, to the point that I went from hundred to zero bottles at one point. Now starting again from scratch. All recent purchases but the bottles empty fast when there’s few options. I expect to size up exponentially next year.

A Ambassador barrel is a barrel of regular MM, and is treated as such. It also isn’t your barrel per say. A Ambassador barrel is shared between 20-30 Ambassadors.There is a nameplate affixed to the barrel with the chosen name of each Ambassador. You can check the status of your barrel and have a peek at the nameplate by using your Ambassador login on the MM website. When your barrel is ready, you will be notified, and given a time frame when you can visit the distillery to pick up bottles from your barrel. I believe it is six months. My window was October to March. That kinda sucked because I was visiting Bardstown for our SB get togethers in September and April back then. I had to make a special trip down to get my bottles. Funny story with this. We ended up going down in December and stayed at the GN in Bardstown, which is where SB members usually stay for our Spring Bash and the KBF. I went to check in and there was the manager, Carrie. She was on the phone, and when she hung up and saw me, she broke out in a big smile and asked.  ”What are y’all doing here this time of year?” Anyway, back to MM. When you pick up your bottle, you get to make your own label, and dip it in wax yourself. Pretty cool. After you pick up your bottle(s), you will be sent a  MM Ambassador For Life card. It entitles you to free tours at MM, and other perks.

The ambassador bottle label is a variation of a regular label that you can personalize. When I  did mine, I asked the guy at the service counter if you could put whatever you wanted on the label. I got a variation of “the look” and he said, “Within reason.” Then we both laughed. Also, and FWIW, dipping your bottle ain’t as easy as it looks. Over the years, I’ve dipped a few bottles at the gift shop. My bottle dipping is marginal at best.

Farther below is a pic of the BT shelf on my cabinet, with the addition of two recently purchased bottles. I also have an open liter of BT not pictured. It’s really kinda sad, but my BT shelf is better than that of a number of liquor stores in my area.

Figured I'd update since I've added a few and reorganized since my last post. I need to add a couple of shelves.

 

I purchased a second PC tower to lift my actual PC tower off the floor so it's easier to reach. Gutted the second tower and it nicely holds eight bottles....currently some extra Smoke Wagon and Eagle Rare.

We all had to start somewhere John. My first three bottles were WW, MM and KC.  You’re doing just fine.

The best advice I can offer is to not start collecting bottles… it’s a downward spiral

I feel like there may be a side hustle in repurposing old PC towers into office whiskey storage bars.  Just saying.

I thought we agreed on this.  we are curating to our particular taste profiles, not collecting.
