What Bourbon Are You Drinking Summer 2022?

This OF1910 bottle is getting down to the last dregs so I thought I'd try a couple of fun blends to finish off the bottle.

 

OF "1915" blend of 1910 and 1920.  It's pretty dang good, much better than the 1910 on its own, which I do not care for, especially for the price.

I also blended up some 1910 with the OF100 and while it is quite tasty too, I have to give the edge to the 1915 blend.

Sipping on a Caumet SBS, 14/15/16.  All very similar profile with slight nuances to set them off from each other.  16 is still my preferred bottling.

That's good to know, because I picked up a 16 recently.  How would you say the 14 and 15 compare/contrast to the 16?

14 & 15 are more cherry forward.  The 16 puts more oak into the profile.  The cherry is still there but subdued.  Not a long finish but  enjoyable.  A solid pour imho.

I do not care for 1910. I enjoy 1920 although I need to tame it a little with a few drops off water or small cube of ice. I love OF100.

 

I have tried both blends you shared and I agree that the 1915 blend is slightly better.

It's always a good idea to liquor up before meeting with clients.  

 

Just kidding, though I usually try to liquor them up at dinner and I always use my boss's name as an alias, in case things go south.

Retired from soccer in early June. Hurt my knee running in late June. Trying to ride a bike to get back to running. Blew tire less than 5 minutes into ride tonight. 

 

Exercise goals blown for the evening.  Opted for bourbon as a consolation and reward since I got a lot done at work today. I plan to slow down at work tomorrow to lower my boss's unrealistic expectations.  I know but he doesn't.  Or maybe he does. 

 

Started with WT101. But, unlike @Phil T , in a glass. Finishing with FRSmB Select x2. Hey, I said it was a consolation and reward.

The Old Foresters were working great with my palate so I decided to take advantage of a good OF palate night so I'm having a pour of '17 OFBB now.

My last couple bottles of KC 9 yr have been stellar.  Picked up another today, and it is also outstanding.  Maybe it’s Beam, maybe it’s me, maybe it’s a happy convergence of both.  Who knows, and who cares….Cuz this whiskey is killin’ it for me.

I've sampled quite a variety of KSBW tonight.

4RYL from the freezer, Beam Old Tub, and 1792 Small Batch. 

 

Now to cap off the night, some 2017 4RSmB LE. 

As expected this is by far the best pour of the night, no contest of course.

Hard to beat the KC 9 yr very smooth pour.  I always recommend it to people new to bourbon.

Right there with you. KC9 has been so good that it still works for me on an off palate night. I'm about to empty yet another bottle.

Have you ever had a “bad” KC9yr?  I have not.  It’s a good tuning fork for my palate.  As my palate and Beams actions have changed over the last ten years, KC9 is my go to Beam now.  Production on their scale breeds solid consistency.

Never “bad”, but I tend to like Beam at lower ages as that presents a thicker and juicier whiskey to my palate.  And yes, gives more of that oily peanut-ness that some don’t care for.  In the past, KC at 9 years could be too dry to my palate, and the juiciness and house style were compromised.  Regardless, I liked and appreciated it, because it was NEVER bad and I knew it would be a very solid choice at any bar.  Whether it’s me, the whiskey, or a convergence of the two, it’s really been working for me these last couple of bottles.

At dinner tonight the restaurant had a nice whiskey selection so I ordered an after-dinner pour while wrapping up the evening.  Abraham Bowman LE #12, a high rye bourbon.  It was a very nice whiskey.
