Picked up a WTKS today. It has been a while since I’ve purchased a WTKS. Mistake corrected.

Cheers

Very nice @elmossle.  If I didn’t have much of a bunker, and if these three were readily available, I believe that purchasing this trifecta bi-monthly or quarterly would hold me in good stead and make me a pretty happy camper. 😋

I have a great bunker to chose from, but can't pass up good bourbon when I find it! The problem these days are finding it and it being reasonably priced.

I hear ya’ @elmossle. 😏 I  probably don’t need any more bourbon, but I can’t help myself. The area I live in has changed a lot since “the boom” hit. Decent places that aren’t tater stores are basically nonexistent. The availability of certain items is sketchy, or just plain weird. Shortages, supply chain issues, and as is sometimes the case, distributors playing games all can be factors I believe. One store here did a ps pick of BT early this summer, but other than that, a couple of other decent stores, and even Binny’s haven’t had  BT in a while. However, we recently had to go to Schnuck’s to grab a couple of things we couldn’t get at Sam’s Club. As always, I checked out the liquor department. Lo and behold, they had BT on the shelf, and on sale! FWIW, even the sale prices at Schnuck’s can be questionable at times. Normally BT is $32.99 there, but it was on sale for $24.99. I bought two. 😗 Oh well. Anyway, gotta head out soon. My wife did the grocery shopping the other day, but we have to go to Schnuck’s to grab a couple of things. 🤣

Wife and I went to Cedarburg (small town about 30 minutes north of Milwaukee) for their Wine and Harvest Festival and found a newish distillery called Handen.  I bypassed the samples and went straight to the counter to purchase their single barrel cask strength offering, figuring, when in Cedarburg, do as the Cedarburgers(?)  The nice checkout lady, whom I later discovered was one of the owners, promptly informed me that she wouldn't let me buy until I tried.  A few samples later, and this little fella decided to hitch a ride home with me.

Nice @Thomm.  Cedarburg is a cool place. Maxwell’s is a pub kitty cornered across the street from the Cedar Creek Winery. Great burgers.  🍔😁

My wife finally got covid this week after all this time. (She is doing fine with standard cold/flu symptoms and is already on the upswing). Because of that I did the grocery shopping on Friday and just happened to be walking by the liquor aisle when an employee was there unlocking the case for another customer and I noticed they still had BT so since it was already open I figured that BT should come home with me.

Well, we did go out today. 🙄 We went to the Schnuck’s just a few blocks from our house. Yes, I checked out the liquor department. I was surprised to see one lone bottle of BT on the shelf. It was still on sale for $24.99. (Oh, I was wrong earlier. Their regular price is $29.99, not $32.99.) I grabbed it and headed for the checkout. While waiting in line, I received a second surprise. The BT was a Schnuck’s private pick. 🥳 As I’ve said before, every once in a while. 😎

This is probably my favorite thing in Cedarburg. I've never even been inside this place, but if it ever goes out of business, I'm buying this neon. I don't care if there's nowhere to put it, I'm buying it anyway.

The part I liked is that she wanted you to try it before you bought it.  That demonstrates pride and confidence in her product.  Not to thread grab, but I always find this intriguing so I explored some more and this is what I found.

https://onmilwaukee.com/articles/handen-distillery

The article is interesting in that it reflects something I have found to be a common theme when exploring various distilleries.  Even though, seemingly competitors, distillers especially those that are established always seem to be willing to help the upstarts.  Sort of a rising sea raises all boats.  I see a similar attitude in my industry.

Thanks for sharing.  While I had never heard of them, they are on my list to follow.

Sorry to hear your wife is ill.  It sounds like all is well but still no fun.  Hopefully, seeing you come home with a bottle of BT lifted her "spirits" as well.  😀

This begs the question.  Do any of us ever go in a store with a liquor department or aisle and not check it out?

Someone earned bourbon karma by leaving a single bottle on the shelf just for you!  Doesn't happen often but I have seen a couple of bottles of something cool on the shelf and asked the guy next to me if he wanted one as I pick up a bottle.  In the few instances when he said no, I then had the conundrum of whether to grab the last bottle.  The answer is if there is a single bottle yes.  However, if there are two, I leave one.  If there are three, it depends on what it is.  I really feel guilty taking more than one of a desirable bottle if there is no limit because I know how much I love the surprise of finding a bottle on the shelf.  I can always find something I enjoy to drink but I equally enjoy someone finding something cool.

I had to laugh at this; I even did it at Wal-Mart the other day lol.  I usually check the liquor departments of the grocery stores I go to even tough I pretty much know everything they carry (none of it very exciting).  Cuz you never know.

The time this really paid off is when I went to a discount grocery store in a "transitional" area and their liquor was in a locked case.  Everything had price tags and Knob Creek was the most expensive, but I spied a bottle of Russell's Reserve SiB in the corner with no price tag.  Long story short, the checker could not get a price when she scanned it, or when the head cashier scanned it, so she called the manager for a price and said, "just charge him $9.99."  Yes, I'd like the other two bottles, thank you.

Ha! ........not so much, more of an eye roll as if she was thinking "great, I send you to the grocery store and you come back with bourbon"

Score, score, score.  No need for a two-point conversion.  The win was guaranteed!

Of course, you can explain the medicinal value of bourbon since a prescription was required during Prohibition.  It would be much preferred over the uncertainty of another vaccine.  The other option is something for me, something for you.  If all else fails, I love you honey.  I hope you get to feeling better.

Keep in mind, we are here to support you.  And to see what might work in case we need an excuse.

I've been testing every day since Wednesday when she first tested positive and so far so good so I guess I can credit the bourbon for killing all the viruses that try to enter!

As I’m just getting started, I’ve picked up Stillhouse Black, MMPS, FRSmBS and KC9.

The FR is my favorite so far, the KC9 I have yet to pour. The MMPS is a smooth swallow and the Stillhouse is great with a few drops of Fee Brother’s Aztec Chocolate bitters.

Let us know what you think of KC 9 when you get to it. I happen to think it's a very solid and flavorful pour for an affordable price.

Costly day today, aside from the Magnus Murray Hill, I stopped at a liquor store a rarely ever visit while killing time while my daughter was at gymnastics. Bought these. The Amador is fantastic for the price.
