Patrick_OKC
Continuing to reach for bunkered items that I have not touched in a while. Speaking of which, I have not touched my two BT Single Oak Project bottles since at least 2013, if memory serves. They actually taste better tonight than I was expecting. Maybe it's because the build-up 10 years ago was tempered by actually tasting them back then. But tonight, no build-up, just hoping for the best. Decent stuff. fosmith
Enjoying some balmy weather last evening with a lazy man's Old Fashioned. Made with Elijah Craig Old Fashioned Syrup and garnished with a Bada Bing cherry. My first time trying the syrup and it's not too bad. Pretty good, actually. I only had it because K&L was clearing out gift boxes of EC small batch with a bottle of syrup for $17. I'm not a huge fan of ECSB but my BIL loves it so I like to keep it on hand and bring a bottle for him when we visit them at their place in Clear Lake.

I opened one at Christmas and it did not last long. So, so good. Parker's POH was one of my first multi-bottle purchases. Near perfect for me. Parker's preferred warehouse, floor, and proof. I got a lot of honeyed baking spices, and rich for its proof. But my 3 bottles are long gone. I have had some Deatsville store picks that have been close, but not equal.

If you are looking for justification to drink more, just let us know. We are here for you. I will start the ball rolling. Drink more, because you deserve it! I would say go big or stay home, but it sounds like you are already home. What about "Ok, since you aren't driving...." In all seriousness, enjoy your evening friend! IamMatt
Started off with a glass of Baker's before proceeding to a 14-oz New York accompanied by Cabernet Sauvignon. Took the wife out for a nice dinner for Mother's Day since the "kids" live too far away.

StarSurfer55
So after several years of building my bourbon collection, I have decided to drink down my collection ( i have multiple open bottles with 1-3 pours left in them) so that i can restock with bourbons of my preference. I am in that process now. I finished a Blanton's and a Fox and Oden last week. I am now drinking the Heaven's Door straight bourbon. I probably have one more pour in that bottle. Has anyone else gone through this process? BTW, I liked the fox and Oden. It is basically MGP juice (I ignored the "made using Heritage Michigan hype") and my understading is that it a blend of 8-15 y/o MGP barrels. My opinion is that I fully understand why a craft distiller would source while they wait for their own juice to age but I also believe that MGP is generally good juice and that the craft distiller should not do anything to mess it up. With that said, what are everyone's favorite MGP products (either one of their own brands (remus?) or another label sourcing it.

FacePlant
I've been having a recent love affair with a bottle of EC SiB store pick (too many initials so I spelled out store pic). It's a 10yr that's part of a small stash I squirreled away about 4yrs ago. I think I bought a couple of bottles but after tasting it I went back twice to buy a few more, and I drank most of them within a yr. I was looking in the vault for a particular bottle of RR SiB and found this one recently and it's all I've touched since. I expect I'll go toward the RR warehouse B circa 2018-19 real soon because the EC is about gone.

During the covid years I went from about 28 opened bottles to around 8. I also depleted at very least 75% of my bunker. It's only been created since 2017, so not that drastic a thing. Bunker is pretty much rebuilt & open back up to around 25. As far as MGP, my SIL is a sucker for TW MGP of the week so, he sends alot my way. I kind of tire of the keeping up with the Joneses so I pretty much keep a George Remus on hand as well as a Remus Reserve purchase the last 2 batches...

After tasting them all, my clear favorite was still 1920. The others weren't bad but not as good FOR ME as 1920. I was not wowed by Statesman. Statesman seems pretty readily available so my suggestion would be to keep enjoying that delicious 1920 til you have a chance to sample the Statesman and decide if you want to buy it.

I believe MGP bourbon shines in the 8 to 10 year age range and 100 to 120 proof. Of their branded bottles I like Remus Repeal Reserve and Rossville Union Rye. Of their NDP bottles, Backbone is younger but good. I had several bottles of Backbone Wheat Whiskey that I really enjoyed. There seem to be a lot of variations of the 75/21/4 mash bill in the 4 year old range. The price and story are all that differ. A popular version is Stellum Single Barrel. I haven't had it but almost every retailer has their own store pick. I had the opportunity to sample Fox and Oden Single Barrel last Summer while in Saugatuck. It was very good. I recall the price was around $100 and it was 99 proof. I have been seeing it show up Meijer in Indy for around $90. Meijer carries a lot of Michigan produced spirits. Coppercraft bottles Fox and Oden, and Joseph Magnum, and also blends of their 4 old bourbon with 9 year old MGP under the Coppercraft label. It is 100 proof and is horrendous.

While I like Statesman, the price just doesn't fit in with the rest of the line up. For a few $$ more you can get OF 1920 or for a few $$ less you can get OF 100. I prefer the profile and proof of OF 1920 and OF 100 over Statesman anyway so it is an easy decision for me. The one in the Whiskey Row series I did not enjoy was OF1910. I have had other heavy char barrel bourbons and they were fine. This one was sweet like cola. However, it was great blended with OF1920 to make OF1915.

It is decent bourbon, in fact I like it more each time I try it. To me, it doesn't seem to have the banana that's typical to the OF profile. More of a vanilla. For my money, however, I won't replace this bottle when it's gone. I would much prefer another bottle of 1920. And an 86 proof OF. And an OF 100. And an OF rye.
