I looked around the bar and went right back to the GTS.  Why mess with a good (great) thing.  Cheers.

As a Cal and Pac-12 fan,  brought out some big guns to get through the sad day. What a gut punch moment in life. Saturdays won’t be the same. I hope everyone beats the crap out of USC and UCLA (yes I’m extremely bitter at the moment…sad, angry, bitter, hard to describe).

Shared a drink of Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year Old Bourbon (getting close to bottle kill) with Jared Goff and Marshawn Lynch in remembrance of the Pac12 and Cal football as we know it. As for the whiskey, incredible nose - couldn’t stop smelling the glass after drinking. Maybe more enjoyable the taste which is saying a lot.

Followed by a fresh bottle crack of Glenmorangie Signet Whisky. Wow the chocolate note hit immediately like I’ve never experienced before. Insanely good but sad the pricing of this has shot up recently.

Finished it off with Midleton Very Rare 2021 Edition. Everything that I want out of an Irish whiskey. Got that vanilla start then hits with some citrus. Extremely long finish.

😀 my man @markandrex will finish it out big time. Him and @GeeTen live in a different whiskey universe than the common man. 😜😀

Wha?  I had two (2) hefty pours of my FRYL freezer bottle last night - in the Yeti, on the deck, with flip-flops on!  Goes great with the hamburger fried rice that I made for dinner, too!    😋

And what about @apt43bear 👆, !!!   PVW20, Glenmo SIgnet, and Midleton Very Rare look like a pretty high-end trifecta to me  . . . . .  🥳

Winner of the Big Time Friday Night award!

The king of bourbon. Pappy dreams of being GTS

In my limited experience with both, (a SBS in a bar for my anniversary a few years back) the GTS became my second favorite pour, ever and the Pap15, while good, kinda got lost in the shuffle of palate pleasing through the years.

While my run in sentence ability remains strong, I guess I'm just saying, I concur... 🤔

Stayed dry this past week since the SIL & me did things on the heavy side last week.

Today, however is a new day! It's a brisk 96 degrees; that's a 4 to 6 degree cooler temp than the past week has been, hence the "lighting of the grill" is at hand. Dogs, burgers & chicken breasts are going on the grates while I start with a HMK. Not necessarily a thought-out choice because it was still on the kitchen cabinet since last week. Nevertheless a great choice to start. Mmmmm!!!

Moved onto an Old Soul SiB & picked up the complexity a bit.

Next, a LS Select 4R SiB; you can reeeeally taste the high rye in this one.

Down to a VOB 90. Quite good but the complexity dropped, big time. Makes you really note that low to higher is a thing.

Finishing with a KC12; just an epic "coup de gras"

All small pours; more is better in this case. ✌️🤩

Food is ready from the grill; I'm done until desert time...

I raise a glass to support you with that sad news about the Pac-12.  It's terrible what greed is doing to our favorite sport.  Cheers buddy.

Mrs. Smith and I enjoyed a special occasion pour of RHF on my birthday the other night.  This is SO much better than Blanton's.  At 100 proof, it may be closer to Blanton's Gold, at 103 proof; but I've never had Blanton's Gold so I can't really say.  All, I know is that RHF is freakin' delicious!

Happy Birthday.  I will join you in the RHF pour before heading out for storm cleanup in the yard and pool.  Cheers!

Would love to taste the OF Statesman, but it is a rare bottle in Germany, and sells around 160 Euros, so I'm a bit reluctant.

Nice pour! Happy belated birthday.

I once compared RHF to an import Blanton's Gold and I found them very close, almost interchangeable for all intents and purpose.  I gave RHF the overall edge based on what should be a lower price and much better availability.

We stopped in Louisville last night on our way South and had a few pours.

We stopped by Michter's and just loved the people and atmosphere. Very cool place to have a drink or seven.

However, the bourbon was not a good fit with our palates. We each did a flight and that killed our FOMO. I know a lot of people love it, but it just didn't hit us the right way (at least last night) Again, I strongly recommend stopping by for a tour and a drink.

I am indulging myself today with two of my favorites, although each has experienced some significant price inflation over the last couple of years.  Today, I am ignoring the prices as I am celebrating my 5-year anniversary of retirement from working life!  The time has sure flown by, but I can honestly say that both bourbon and this site have been strong contributors to my enjoyment of the good life of retirement so far.  (Cue up a recording of "The Good Life" sung by the late, great, Tony Bennett.)  I am starting with a pour of the Rebel 10 yr., a very nice wheater, and plan to follow it with a pour (or two) of the excellent Remus Repeal Reserve Series IV.  Ahhh.  Regarding the bourbons here, and retirement in general, I can say that I definitely recommend...all three!

Resurrected a bottle I'd put away some time ago, that I found underwhelming... 4-R Small Batch Select.

The nose is absolutely 4-R and is quite nice; but, the somewhat muddled palate reminded me why I set it aside a year or two ago.    I'll need to kill off the last half of this one in cocktails or just highballs, I guess.

The Big Ten will soon be called the Big Ten but with 20 teams. College athletics is a farce.

I struggle with this one. I waffle between a preference between FrSmB Select and FR SiB. But, then again, I struggle between a preference between Frosted Flakes and Fruit Loops.

Finished the yard and pool work with daylight to spare.  I decided to delve in a couple of malfunctioning low voltage lights out front.  I got them done and came in to the wife making some fresh shrimp rolls, brown rice and fresh honeydew.  I decided to have a few pours of OF14 while she finished up.
