CEHT Single Barrel? How much did you pay compared to standard Buffalo Trace? Both are NAS and the same product. How about OWA? How much did you pay compared to WSR? The only difference in those higher priced bottles is how much water they add. Ever think about how much water costs them? Not much. There are many other examples out there. But because Wild Turkey continues to offer a high quality, relatively high proof bourbon compared to everyone else for a true budget price (20-25 bucks), for some reason they seem to be penalized for it when considering their higher priced premium products. It's like they are held to a different standard than their competition. I've never purchased and EHT of any stripe but I understand what you are saying . OWA and W12 were always to my taste head and shoulders above the WSR of which I only ever bought 1 and gave 1/2 of it away. In other words I'm no BT fan and yes, again, I am well aware of comps among other distilleries. Specific to WT, I am a big fan and my issue with KS is more that it is a missed opportunity for WT. I might very well pony up for a WTKS but I'd like to know more about it before I do. Dumping some single barrel in a non-descript bottle, chill filtering it, proofing it down to 101 and expecting folks to magically know why its 3x the price of 101 is stupid. Its well within their ability to provide more info and give us enthusiasts a bit more reason to spend the cheddar. We enthusiasts may even be more tuned in (i.e. age difference...) but beyond us, how is anyone supposed to make an educated purchase? I am surprised these things aren't monumental shelf turds and it doesn't have to be that way. Water is cheap, so is information printed on a label, and while you're at it, drop the chill filtering and save a few more pennies. Campari could and should do a lot better with KS.

Especially the part about KS being a missed opportunity. I think we are on the same page. IMO they should keep WTKS at 101 proof (because that's their signature proof), make it NCF and slap an age statement on it. I do believe the current WTKS single barrels are hand selected, but of course we don't really know for sure. I've never really recommended other people purchase WTKS specifically. I think as far as recommendations go, if you stick to WT101, RR10, WTRB and RRSiB you will have the essence of what WT offers. I just purchase it myself because I enjoy the variety.

Yes to NCF and yes to age statements. As much as I love Wild Turkey products, I have no idea why they still chill filter their higher proof offerings. But to be fair, many of the legacy distillers still employ way too much chill filtering, so I'm not targeting WT specifically. Regarding age statements, every bottle from every brand should bear an age statement along with all relevant information about the juice in the bottle. More info is always welcome.

As far as ER10, it's kind of an enigma to me. Sometimes it tastes great to me and sometimes I get one that is very meh and less desirable than standard BT. I'm a bit perplexed by ER10 ... not sure if it's me or the single barrel variation. I'm most leery of the private store picks, more so than other bourbons. I think I'd rather have the standard ER shelf product unless I can taste the barrel pick ahead of time.

This pretty well goes along with my ER experiences over the years. Some were ok. Others were off (musty or gamey) or just flat and bland, not much taste. Overall, also found I usually enjoyed standard BT more than ER. You could say I gave up/moved on. It's also true they basically quit selling it around here, except rarely, and the games. If other people can find it, buy it, like it - that's fine with me.
0895
Just after finishing my RR13, I happened to check a place online I sometimes mail order from and they had just gotten the RR15 I’ve been drooling over. So that showed up in today’s mail. The rebel is a local store pick that arrived this week. I usually enjoy these, and got to taste this before buying. For $50 I think it’s a good alternative to WA107 when you’re looking for a wheater that’s a bit different. Happy Friday!

Other than the higher end BTAC and weller products, while I occasionally enjoy BT or ER, I also occasionally find them be below average. I don't have this issue with WT, FR, HH, or Beam products. I enjoy a bottle or two of BT and then the next bottle is crap.

Just speculating, but I figure if a particular batch or single barrel is missing something, there are not many other whiskey notes in there to redeem the overall taste. Probably too simplistic to be true, but that's kind of my take anyway. Edited September 14, 2024 by Kepler

Thomm
Somebody (refresh my memory) here was speaking highly of this. It keeps showing up when I go shopping, so I thought I might give it a whirl. Who knows? Wedelstaedt
Found the WT 101 8yr, 70th anniversary tribute to Jimmy Russell. Picked it up near msrp. Being a long time flock member, I am very pleased to be able to go ahead and pick this up. Cheers
markandrex
The leftovers from the cabin. My friend gifted them to me for helping him at the cabin. The WT was very good. A little more complex then WTRB Rye or 101 Rye. We went through 3. The SA was good, not as good as I remember but I hadn’t seen it in awhile.
Clueby
Gor an ER10 at the new "retailish" price of $50.99+tax at TW&M. Mrs. Clueby really likes it or it might have been a pass.

Those Rebel picks seem to fly under the radar...my favorite LS had 'em for $38.00 which I consider a steal. If you like the Rebel, you may like want to get your hands on an Ezra Brooks Distiller's Collection pick, (which also weighs in at 107 proof), and is very good.
