I still find myself surprised at how what precedes the drinking affects the drinking. I should be...but am nonetheless. I like the FAE-1 a lot. Prices on those (and other things, mostly midrange) have dropped. Snagged another FAE-1 and a BEP on Unicorn at less than they were selling at the distillery when released. I can keep you posted, but I can say from experience that I normally prefer Weller to Maker's, proof being equal. I can also say with confidence that the CYPB is one of my favorite Weller variations, and I feel it's very underrated. It is very well balanced and very close to the perfect proof level for the mashbill, IMHO.

It’s a local distillery in southern Louisiana. I’ve done barrel picks for local liquor stores at the distillery. They use rice instead of rye in there mash bill. This is the oldest juice that they have ever released. Not bad. Very good people trying their best to make a good bourbon. They are doing a good job… I've tried that at a tasting once and really liked it. I liked it well enough to purchase a bottle (if I needed anymore bottles Lol). Good stuff
PaulO
We woke up with snow on the grass this morning, then later more snow. It hasn't been quite cold enough for it not to melt on the pavement, so driving was only wet, not ice. I'm having a pour of EW B.I.B. Frozen turkey is in the fridge to thaw for Thanksgiving.

JCwhammie
Last weekend a buddy of mine and his wife had a few people over for a whiskey dinner. Here are a few pics of what he was offering. He also let me try WT Donut. Me being a big Wild Turkey fan I loved Donut. All of the pours were wonderful.

PaulO
Wow, that WT "doughnut" has to be from way back - like the 1990s. Even then, I don't think it was a common thing, so double wow. I'm starting the Thanksgiving vacation with something slightly less exotic - GD "Signature Recipe" (the new label of what used to be GD #12). Unfortunately, I have not tried any of the newly available Blanton's bottles but I can imagine STFB and Gold are probably the stars of the AA (BT MB #2) lineup. However, when looking at the standard bottles, I always preferred Blanton's over ETL which the exception of the 93 proof Commemorative Bottle which was one of my all time favorites in that lineup. Full disclosure: you were asking about current versions. I have not have ETL for about 5 years or so. The last Blanton's was more recent but I found it to be meh. I always preferred Rock Hill > Blanton's > AAA 10 Yr > ETL. I am still sitting on a bottle of AAA 10-year that I prize due to its sentimental value. My wife's uncle (my uncle) brought me two bottles that he bought at Red Spot in Frankfort about 10 years ago. I have one left. He passed about 5 years ago. I plan to open that bottle on the 100th anniversary of his birthday next August. A great man from the Commonweath. One of my favorite people to sit down and chat with. Sorry, when I see discussion of these bourbons it reminds me of good times.
mbroo5880i
Starting another "Wheater Weekend" with Rebel 10 Year. Since it is an NDP bottle, I am not sure of the source. Heaven Hill? If so, a 10-year old Heaven Hill wheated bourbon @ $60 is a great deal. If not, well, it is still worth the price of admission. On deck is Larceny BP C924. I absolutely do not like regular Larceny or Larceny store picks @ 92 proof. I remember buying Larceny during the initial release when it had a rebate tag on the bottle. However, based on the dislike, I was late to the Larceny BP party. I finally took the plunge a few weeks back based on posts in this forum and various reviews on that batch. Now I am a fan. But, only of the BP version.

I've had "meh" Larceny 92 proof store picks, but I bought a case of an outstanding 92 proof store pick because it was so good. YMMV,... because in my experience Heaven Hill has the most inconsistent single barrel quality control of any big producer out there. But I had to at least put it out there that some 92 proof Larceny barrel picks can be excellent.

Got enough of each to last. I also want to try what was suggested here - LBP mixed with regular Larceny.
Anwalt
Yesterday. Bad Influence From Louisville says "Come over, you'll be home in an hour, you won't miss dinner, your South American (he has one too) will not keeeel jhoo." See below as to how "just an hour" worked out. My South American was thankfully cheerfully into her cups of vino tinto, so no keeeeeling occurred. I did not try the Nulu. I loved the M10 and Hardin's Creek, as usual. Both Bookers drank hot for my taste. The OF, surprisingly, did not...it was very good, good flavor to heat ratio. Granted, that bottle has been open for 2 years....
Anwalt
OK, it ain't bourbon. But it is good, especially at $63/bottle.
Anwalt
Back to Old Faithful, ECBP. I am very, very fond of the "Y" barrels they sell at the HH "You Do Bourbon" tasting. Talked someone who was not buying into buying (I always have cash on hand for that purpose). These bottles are every bit as good as the C923. In my happy place.

However, normally those say Single Barrel on the label.
