Purchased? Well actually recieved today.

I got a few exports sent back to the USA from Austraila, Thanks Scott AKA HighTower!!

Wild Turkey 86.8 proof, gotta have all the Turkey I can get for the collection/bunker

McK McKenna, the Henry McKenna that is sold in the USA is produced by Heaven Hill. This McKenna is produced by Four Roses, they have the export rights. It will go along with the rest of my Four Roses collection next to the FR's made Bulleit

Cougar XS, 5 years old 86 US proof, Scott took it upon himself to throw this one in, disstilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. This will be my Aussie souvenir.

I gotta go now and track that package I sent Down Under.

.

More info on the McKenna.

It is 5 years old 80 proof.

Scott said that Jim Rutledge told Cam that this was similar to the Four Roses Yellow Label,

with the mashbill approximately 2/3 of Mashbill "E" which is 20% rye,

and 1/3 Mashbill "B" which is 35% rye.

But a different yeast than the Yellow Label, for a different flavor profile.

Bulleit.

All right, all right ... I realize it's hardly as exotic as most of what's been mentioned in this thread. But as I stood there in the state store, shaking my head at the narrow and increasingly frustrating range of choices available here, I realized that Bulleit was about as good as I was going to do among the brands I've not yet tried. And hey ... it was actually on the top shelf!

(There were two bottles of Hancock's PR but at $38, this choice cost more than I wanted to spend without first researching it here.)

Larry

hey larry! and BULLEIT isn't a bad choice at all!

just finished my first bottle last week. nice and peppery...or something like that!

where in alabama are you from? i was born in TROY but lived in MS most of my life...

cheers and welcome!

Wild Turkey RR 101! finally procured a bottle!

i still wonder aloud...how many of these probably still remain shelved and gather dust???

They sent the remains over 12 months ago to Australia, so we have it all now! It is still fairly plentiful, but I have a dozen here, just incase!

WT American Spirit 15-Yr

WTRR Rye (6-Yr old, methinks)

WTRR 101

EW 1783 (a bargain I can't seem to pass up)

ER 101 (stumbled on a treasure trove. app. ½-doz. bottles were shoved in the back on the next-to-the-bottom shelf)

OGD 114

Corner Creek (on a whim--haven't read anything on this bottle)

W.L. Weller Centennial

I liberated some Larue Weller '07 today.

I think the distributor was sitting on ER17 in the warehouse....every place that 'just' got this in and it's all Fall '06. Too bad none of the Larue Weller is '06 that I saw!

AND I found at least 8 more bottles of '06 stagg...in place I knew were out. So I really do think the distributor is clearing out last years and is sitting on this years BTAC for some bottlings. Pretty wierd.

Yesterday I found, for my first time, some Japanese SM. There were 3 bottles of Suntory Yamazaki 12 yo and I grabbed 1. I also located 3 members of the BTAC. So I got 2 GTS, 1 WLR and 1 ER17. (Still hoping to locate a couple bottles of Saz.) I turned my back on the lone bottle of WTAS, began walking to the register and.... caved. So now I have that one too. And just in time for the holidays.

Came across a lone Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye at a local Bevmo. It's never been there in the hundreds of times I've been to that store and I was so happy. Considering I had just bought 12 bottles of various spirits in the last month, I was surprised the wife went for it. But she could see that I really had to have it.

Just picked up a '07 Stagg and '07 Weller. Going back for the rest next week. They also had some '06 Stagg they recently got in. Like Phischy said happened out West they had also received some '06 Stagg too.

After buying the BTAC...I'm on a new bourbon moratorium. Man this stuff is pricey! Plus w/ 20 open bottles...I can't justify buying anything new.

Kopper Kettle Virginia Whiskey.

With a big assist from ThomasH, (Binny's won't ship to MI)

I got this info from their web site.

The mash is a secret formula of corn, wheat and barley.

Fermented in copper and distilled in a potstill.

Charcoal filtered and pre-soaked in oak and apple wood chips.

Then aged in barrels for two years.

Nothing on what kind of barrels or if they were charred, I am sure they weren't charred.

In Culpeper, Virginia at 86 proof.

It is a young whiskey and tastes like it, similar to Mellow Corn but more mild and tame.

There is a slight sweetness to it that I am sure is from the apple wood chips, you can pick it up faintly in the nose and it is a nice suprise in the taste.

If you want to know what I bought today...and you do, you need to go to the Collectibles forum and check out the "Some dusty bottles..." thread.

In observance of the holidays I decided to pick up a pewter top bottle of '01 Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit from Warehouse "G" which I discovered elsewhere on this site was alleged to be Jimmy Russell's favorite spot for this single barrel offering. I realized that Wild Turkey nut that I claim to be, I had never had Kentucky Spirit and figured Thanksgiving '07 was the perfect time to try it. It was a tough call since there were bottles of '99 Rare Breed to be had for 27 bucks, but Thanksgiving comes but once a year and 36 is a good price for KS so I figured I'd go for it. If you want to know if I made the right call, check out the "What are you drinking tonight" thread, because the seal won't make it to Nov. 22.

Due to my growing apprehension regarding availability of OCPR, I did some hunting today on my way home from work and found a couple of bottles of the Frankfort variation. As a bonus, came across some ERSB that was on sale for $16.95.....grabbed a couple of them for good measure. If time allows and temptation overtakes me, I might have to get into one of them along with the Turkeys later in the evening.......a bird of different feather but a very good one nonetheless!

HAPPY & SAFE THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!!!!!!!

I found a couple 1995 WT 8yr. Liters today the guy at the store said some old man use to come in all the time but had passed away so he had some left. He says he has 2 more at another store so I may get them next week.

I also found a couple tax stamp OGD 114's and a couple Jim Beam 200th Anniversary bottles that were cheap.

Made the trip to stock up for the holidays today. Our friendly neighbors to the north are having a great sale. Twenty percent off wines if you buy twelve bottles or more. Combine that with the bottles that are already on sale and you're getting anywhere from 25 to 50 percent off. Sweet.

So I picked up 14 various bottles of wine. Nothing special.

8 varieties of Italian reds

3 Chilean reds

1 Chilean white

2 Washington state - 1 red, 1 white

1 Evan Williams 1783

1 Michael Colling in the new bottle

4 Eagle Rare Single. The last ones they had for $18.99. I noticed that the regular price of this has increased twice this year alone.

Eagle Rare regular price was:

$19.99

$21.99

Now it's $23.99

What gives

well, went for the PLCB closeout, EWilliams 1783...why not, at $8.99! i still have plenty of top shelf to keep me happy for awhile...and, yes, i left tasting notes ... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7349&highlight=EW+1783

a nice, economic lesson. i have no reservations for the purchase.

but......yeah, it has been gnawing at me all day...after i tried this OTHER purchase...and made notes...and have really gotten my (painful) education's worth out of a $8.79 purchase of HEAVEN HILL. yep, the white label with green text, charcoal filtered...

more on this one later.

and to think, my initial notes were kind...(no mention of rags and cabbage...!)

Well, I had to decide between two of my super affordable pleasures; Rittenhouse Rye, and Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star. $14.99 for RR, and AAA 10* at $12.99. AAA won. Today anyway.
