Another 4Roses SB?

I got this in my email, I assume it means there is another SB offering from 4Roses coming.

"We want you to be the first to know that Four Roses is planning to celebrate 120 years since Paul Jones, Jr. first trademarked the brand. We plan to honor this event with a special of Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon.

On April 15, we are offering you the opportunity to sample this unique selection before it hits the shelves. We invite you to join us at the distillery at 2:00 p.m. for appetizers and a taste of this limited edition chosen by Master Distiller, Jim Rutledge. During this event Jim will describe the uniqueness of this special Bourbon and answer any questions you may have."

Today I got a nice little DVD of the 4 Roses distillery in the mail with a nice little letter from Jim Rutledge. Looking forward to viewing this since I've not had a chance to visit the distillery yet.

It is a very fine explication of the bourbon-making process, from grain reception to aging and bottling. As good as any I've seen, either from distillery tours or others' video projects.

I was especially taken by the segment regarding distillation, which notes the regulatory proof requirements, and the dual distillations required to meet them.

Good show, Four Roses (as if that's any surprise).

There was a two week RSVP on that invitation, wasn't there? So I don't think you can just show up. I wish they'd do these things on weekends. It's tough to get over there during the week.

I haven't watched the DVD yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I suspect it's what they were showing at the start of the tour I took a few weeks ago. I don't remember that video being part of it before. I was impressed by how much technical detail was in it. Jim Rutledge has done that in every talk I've heard. He always answers questions directly and in detail.

You know what I wish? Don't care I know but I'll tell anyway. I wish they wouldn't do these specialty bottlings as individual Single Barrels. In the process making them 9, 19, or however many more times collectible and sought after than they already would be! Instead of just wanting one or two we end up wanting one from every barrel... :banghead:

And before you say it, yes I know they are known for the SB, but why not go a different route with these specialties? Like choose 25 or so 110+ proof barrels and create an entirely new flavor profile... Just my thoughts ladies and gentlement, just my thoughts.

I wish they would have rolled this thing out at a Four Roses Luncheon for MM members the way they did for Jim's 40th. That was classy and most of the MM people will be in town anyway for the sampler.

I haven't heard of a MM luncheon at this year's Sampler, have you? Probably just as well with Doug's open house.

I got the DVD, too. Very cool.

The Four Roses Single Barrel is my very favorite and I pine away daily that it isn't available in NH. Getting it by mail order gets expensive and it isn't the same experience as seeing it on the shelf, grabbing one and saying to yourself under your breath, "Yes!!":grin:

They're using the Single Barrel Bottle with some special marking for the 120th Anniversary of Four Roses.

As described by Jim. This is the 35% rye mashbill ( fermented with the spicy yeast (K). At.Barrel strength this is some great 13 year old whiskey. It has more barrel character than any other FR product. Its spicy, but has little of the grassy-earthy notes of straight ryes.

Fruit all over the front end. Apples and Nutmeg with chocolate in the background. Finish is medium and very Mellow (A Mellow Moment)

Proofs range in the 110-114 range, depending on the barrel, so these are from the higher sections of the one story warehouses.

This is unfiltered and has great burnt orange color

It appears the release has been delayed "a little" but should be "soon"

Price point should be somewhere around the same as the Rutledge.

There will be twice as many as the Rutledge, but the market is now more than twice as big.
