I really appreciate the honeyed taste of the Pappy 20, and the interesting notes in the Lot B... but the 15 just hits the spot.It's a little bit more rough, a bit of dry wood, and when the wood starts to vanish waves of vanilla and caramel pop up. After so many great expressions it made no sense to risk the drive home. I know Oscar mentioned after dinner we had the JRPS 17yr but I believe he neglected to mention the Pork chops, hand cut and grilled to perfection by none other than Big Dog himself, served with sautéed zucchini in stewed/diced tomatoes with garlic, basil, oregano and olive oil which went wonderfully with the rice and chubata bread. As mentioned the JRPS 17yr was sampled with dried fig, dates and shell your own pecans. Thanks Oscar for a great meal, great bourbon and as always music and conversation.Cheers, TonyP.S. I think it's starting to grow on me. Maybe the folks who were saying it needed a little bit of air in the bottle were right, as I'm getting a little less of the wood, a little more of the sweetness as we progress. still two thirds of it left. I love them every time and seem to find something new to enjoy whenever I sample them. Kentucky Spirit, Rare Breed and ER10/101 are on my short list too but just a notch below those three. Of course, now that I think about it, Four Roses Single Barrel could sit on the same shelf as those mentioned. Agreed, PVW15 has long been my top pick (had some last night as well). I also concur with your other top picks. I would add that the Handy (although not bourbon) is up there for me as well and once we're talking rye.... VWFRR!!!.Yes. Scott Ruined me one day with a WTKS vertical at my house consisting of Pewter, Dark Wood, Light Wood. Since that day a few months ago I found one dusty Dark Wood but have stayed away from the Light Wood.Now that Pewter, yeah, that's some good stuff there. I'll take a case please.It just hacks me off when the current juice is not as good as the old juice. If the current Light Wood WTKS was as good as the Pewter I'd be buying it constantly and probably have at least half a case stashed by now just to alleviate my paranoia errr nervosa. Then moving to some of the cheaper stuff after I'm good and drunk. This is a good idea as far as actually tasting and remembering stuff, but after drinking a bunch of, say BTAC, the Wathen's just doesn't do it for me.First one up this evening: Wathen's. Pretty darn good. I can't really say what it tastes similar to, but good nonetheless. Hopefully I can figure out what it tastes like before I get drunk, but I doubt it. A whiskey drink that earns its spurs despite the embellishments, which in truth add a special something - a roundness and pleasant additional tang. Iced American whiskey in a cocktail definitely has its moments. Damn I love that broad!Anyway I told her there is alot better whiskey to drink in the cabinet and proceeded to make her drinks the rest of the night.Started with '03 OWA then Weller 12 (old label). Then I decided to open my lone bottle of AAA 10 Star. I would drink this everyday if it was available here. I picked this bottle up around Ft. Hood, which had the best selection I've seen in Tx. IronHead Posted December 5, 2009 Share Posted December 5, 2009 Last night was a sample of Binny's BT from Hectic Bob followed by Binny's Weller 12 followed by sharing a virtual pour of 1968 Old Fitz BIB with ACDetroit Tony. I found the BT to have a very nice, balanced nose and good flavor but there was something about the finish that killed it for me. Maybe too dry. This is my first visit back to the BT label since I think it was first introduced (Late 90's maybe? Can someone help on that?) The Binny's Weller 12 is fine, fine juice. Smooth with lots of caramel and vanilla and a hint of something that makes me think dried cherries. The finish is not really all that long but I can compensate for that by taking another sip sooner The '68 Old Fitz was...well, it was Old Fitz BIB from 1968! What more needs to be said?
