Angel's Envy Bourbon is now being unveiled and released. We did a video segment interview with Wes Henderson, COO of Louisville Distilling Company and son of Lincoln Henderson about the new Bourbon this week here -- http://www.bourbonblog.com/blog/2011/03/19/angels-envy-bourbon-released/'>Angel's Envy

Cheers!

Can you believe it? Tom forgot to include the link. Whatever will we do?

Am I the only one who thinks his 'participation' here has no purpose but advertising?

I hear ya Chuck... If it were my club, I would revoke his membership.

I know I'm new here, so I should be careful when it comes to criticizing the motives of fellow SB posters. Instead, I'll make you do the work! Here's a fun exercise: click on "TomFischer" and select "Find More Posts by TomFischer." Of the last ten unique topics—I'm too lazy to search further back than that—every single one contained a link to the bourbonblog.com that was not part of the signature or salutation. (Sorry, did I just inadvertently advertise for bourbonblog.com? My apologies!)

By the way... I feel no need to apologize for thread drift since the true purpose of this thread was exactly what we are discussing... shameless self-promotion.

Tom can post whatever he wants as long as it is not outside the rules set down by Jim. For some reason, it seems that many on this site like to spend time criticizing others for comments, opinions, or lack of details. If you don't like what someone posts, don't read it.

Let's get back to the topnc - Angel's Envy. When and where can we get it and is it worth getting it?

Sure, Jim is the ultimate authority here but we can also call Tom out on this if we wish as it is nothing but targeted SPAM.

Lets go biblical and let the ones who don't criticize cast the first stone. We should start with a discussion about Bob Dylan and see who is permitted to throw afterwards.

As far as Angel's envy, I'm hoping for a taste in Bardstown next month and a shot at grabbing a bottle while I am there.

I basically said that I did not like Dylan's singing ability and it was on a thread specific to Bob Dylan. Tom's post provided a link to an interview with Wes Henderson which is certainly related to this thread. The comments concerning Tom were not related to the topic. I am not as computer literate as many here so I don't understand how Tom's post is considered spam.

We spent enough time off topic. Maybe we should start a new thread.

I would say Tom is dangerously close to being "outside the rules set down by Jim" as

Commercial interests are prohibited from posting here except when prior arrangements have been made with Straightbourbon.com management.

But again... it ain't my call

Now fricky, I will agree with you that sometimes members here are too quick to lay into someone who is trying to contribute to the bourbon discussion. But, I think Tom is a bit different... There is no discussion or contribution. Just drive by "HEY EVERYBODY... LOOK AT MY BLOG... LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK..."

I would feel bad if in my zeal for accurate bourbon knowledge I offended a new bourbon enthusiast who didn't quite follow the unspoken rules of sb.com. But, I am pretty confident I am accurately describing

when I say he is a shameless self-promoter whose only purpose on SB.com is to drive traffic to his own
.

Anybody with a website wants their site to be at the top of the search engine results for key words -- Tom is no different. One of the best ways to improve your rank is to have websites link to your site. The more sites that link, the better your rank and the more prestigious a website is that links to you, the more it helps you. But it is not just about having the links... a big part of what matters is what words are used when linking. If lots of websites link to sb.com with the words "classy forum" (i.e. "I have found this website to be a very classy forum") then there is a good chance that if you search for "classy forum" in google it will rank high even though the words may not be used on the site.

Knowing this information can allow users to manipulate the search results. For instance, back in 2004 a bunch of people decided to use the phrase "miserable failure" and link it to George Bush's website. As a result, if you searched for miserable failure, the top link was the official presidential website. This is known as google bombing by the way. Of course you will also see this "advertising" as website owners will try to spread links to their sites as broadly as possible, especially when linked to key words they desire to be associate with.

Now that you know a bit about search engine optimization, go back and read some (or any for that matter) of Tom's post. Every single one of them contains strategically designed links that are intended to boost his ranks in the search engine. So, for this thread, Tom wants it so that everytime someone searches for "Angel's Envy" one of the top sites returned is his review. Likewise, his signature is designed to drive searches for "bourbon whiskey," "bourbon reviews," or "bourbon recipes" to the appropriate section of his website.

Some people are subtle about it, but Tom is not. It probably wouldn't bother me as much even if all Tom ever did was come on sb.com and write: "Hey guys, I just wrote a blog about XYZ Distillery, you can read about it here." But, again, it is pretty dang obvious that his intentions for posting are completely linked to keyword optimization and increasing traffic to his own blog.

Heck, even on the "About Tom Fischer" section of bourbon blog, it talks about his qualifications as a PR expert rather than his experience in the bourbon world. Tom knows what he is doing.

An excellent explanation there Mr. Kickert. Not all of us are in IT so it's good to bring some clarity to these situations.

I'm not a fan of social media in general and particularly dislike badly done blogs. They remind me of fanzines from the Xerox age. The good thing about fanzines is you could choose not to pick them up and throw them away when you were done. These bloggers are like a virus pushing their wares and while it may seem passive Kickert did a great job explaining how it's an active effort that takes advantage of sites like this for their own gain.

Perhaps this should have its own thread, but I would like to hear a moderator explain why Tom is not a "commercial interest" and therefore "prohibited from posting here except when prior arrangements have been made with Straightbourbon.com management." Maybe he has made such a prior arrangement. The only difference between what Tom is doing and what we all would identify as spam is that the subject is bourbon rather than pornography or on-line gambling.

This board is supposed to be about dialogue, conversation, not advertising. The gist of every post Tom has ever made is 'look at me.'

I've had my SB.com window pointed to the Who's Online page and note that he's been composing a response for about 15 minutes now.

Should be interesting.

Tom promotes this site in his blogs from time to time.

So does The Crotchety One, but unlike Tom, 1) he's an active participant here, and 2) usually reposts his blog articles here rather than just supply a link.

Uh oh, I may have just tarred myself as a minion. Rubbing alcohol should take that off.

Unfortunately for a good story about Angel's Envy Bourbon, an amazing whiskey that deserves to be the actual topic of discussion on this thread AND for a story that featured a fellow StraightBourbon.com member Wes Henderson, this has been subverted with negativity and flames.

For those of you with passion for Bourbon and not a desire to attack fellow SB members for doing worthwhile work in this industry, watch the video on this direct link -

http://www.vimeo.com/21217573

You owe Wes and Angel's Envy an apology because the release of this Bourbon is a big deal for the Louisville Distilling Company, and I'm proud of them.

We published this new Angel's Envy video segment as journalists (not advertisers as inaccurately stated by a fellow journalist who I thought had more respect than to attempt to tear down blogs and sites other than his own.) Coincidentally, each of the two heavy ranters on this thread also link back to their own blogs on SB.

After seeing that no one on SB had commented on the fact that Angel's Envy is now being unveiled and released, I shared this because it was important news.

Please note what I shared above was the direct link to the video with Wes on vimeo.com. We receive enough visits on bourbonblog that I don't care if you check out the story on Vimeo or BourbonBlog. I simply want you to enjoy the Bourbon and the video segment we produced.

We all know that it takes only a few minutes to attack Bourbonblog and link my team and I to stupid music videos...Bring it on if you must..but we're working on producing 5 videos today on whiskey. I have no time or interest in playing games. It takes a great deal of commitment to produce quality video content and give POSITIVE attention to unique stories that deserve it in this industry.

Our hats off to some other websites who are doing some great work as well - http://sourmashmanifesto.com/ , http://bourbonbuzz.com/ , and http://www.gobourbon.com/ !

I appreciate the support and kind words from many of you as I've been honored to be part of the SB community for 5+ years attending SB events and meeting many of you throughout Kentucky and across the nation.

So, I am indeed excited to hear more of your thoughts and tasting notes on Angel's Envy Bourbon...and again congratulations to Wes Henderson, Lincoln Henderson and the Louisville Distilling Company on the release of Angel's Envy Bourbon!

Tom, while I have not read every post you've ever made, this is the first post where I've actually heard your own voice come thru. It was nice to hear you drop the PR nicey-nice for a change.

Why don't you do that more often, both on SB and on your own blog? If you wrote in a frank and honest manner in the first place, you wouldn't be such a target.
