Jim Beam Rye circa 1983. very nice spicy robust hit right off the bat, wow this could be good...waiting for things to develop...but it doesn't.

take another look at the label...80 proof....really too bad because even at 86 proof this would have been something worthwhile, but as is....just a disappointment.

Weller 12 yr, not as rich as I remember Weller can be.

Sadly Squire, that has been my impression of the Weller 12 these last couple of years. The age is present on the finish, but it's just thin, throughout. As you say, it lacks that richness. Too bad, really.

Anywho, it's some early 80's Yellowstone Mellow Mash 91 proof 7 yr for me tonight.

Now where did you find that?

My last bottle was very underwhelming. A lack of richness is exactly how I would describe it.

WLW 2010 followed by a pour of Lot B.

I've ignored the WLW for a while now and it seems to have relaxed a little bit. I kept diluting it until my tongue stopped feeling numb, and at that point the nose was dramatically lessoned. I like it lot, but it reminded me of Lot B.

To prove this point, I followed it by a Lot B. Boy was i wrong. The only thing that I've learned about the Lot B is:

1) I really like it

2) It never tastes like what I think it tastes like

started out with a vatting of OWA, WTRB, and WT Rye, ratio about 4:2:1. Not bad, not stellar, either. On to Dickel #12.

Henry McKenna, 10 yr, BIB, I keep trying to find what I want to be here, but there's no there there. Like a pretty girl who can't just stop talking.

I had the last out of a VWFRR-K and an uncut 10 year HH bottled by Cadenheads yesterday. The rye was very good to the last drop and I will miss it. Wee will see if I will replace it. It’s both a bit pricey and hard to find here.

Jack Daniels Single Barrel from the fabled (IMO) 11-0069 barrel bottled in January of this year. I bought 3 of these and each is very similar. I say that because sometimes when you buy apparently from the same barrel, that isn't so.

I added a very light dash of water so it's probably 90 or 88 proof.

It has a rooty, metallic-like taste, no banana at all, with a sweet middle of spice and fruit of some (non-banana) kind.

A very "non-Jack" Jack, and in my view, the bourbon fans who claim not to like JD would love this. I may get the chance to show them soon if some of this makes the cut for the Gazebos at end April.

The next shot was my vatting of ND OT, ND OG, IW Harper Bonded '68-'74 and a 60's Beam from a decanter. This vatting, which I've mentioned before, has remained unchanged except I added more Taylor recently. In each ND category, there were numerous bourbons (i.e., numerous Taylors, numerous Gran-dads, of different ages and proofs) but all from the same era so for my purposes, it's a 4-bourbon vatting.

The taste is much bigger than the Jack SB just commented on. There is a ripe peachy note, a very smooth and soft mouthfeel, and a long lingering aromatic finish. That's as far as (my) words can take it.

In my time of gathering old bottles, I enjoyed many, some not, but this last quantity I have, in the form of this vatting, pleases me most - an apt finish to an intermittent dusty-searching career.

Did I mention peach? Some apricot there too.

How did they get such big flavors back then?

By the way, those of you who have large dusty collections: if interested to make something similar, combine the four I mentioned respectively in about 3:3:1:1. If anyone tries this, please offer comments.

Julio's RHF and now GTS 2010. The Julio's brought me oak and vanilla in an easy drinking fashion. The GTS is showing lots more oak and chocolate tonight in a fashion that is a little harder to slug. Always something new and enjoyable to find in the GTS.

OGD BIB, EC 12, then OGD 114.

Since I bought this bottle, my first of OGD BIB, I thought it was very different than the 114. After tasting them back to back (almost) I find that they are very similar, except the 114 burns your lips more.
