On a long driving biz trip this week, but the miles allowed me to return to areas that carry what I can't get here in Georgia, or what I haven't looked for here. Picked up the following:

2 Weller 12's

1 Weller 12 Family Size

2 Ritt BIB's

1 McScrooge's Selection of 2001 EWSB

1 Bowman Small Batch Bourbon

1 Bowman 10 yr Rye 90 proof

1 Private Selection Bernheim Wheat

1 EC18 Private Selection (This one is stunningly good, BTW)

1 2011 Stagg

1 Bitter Truth Celery Bitters

1 Bitter Truth Lemon Bitters

Just to show y'all how f$%&!d up I am, I don't even particularly care for either the Weller 12 or Ritt BIB. But, all of the dire talk made my trigger finger itchy... Just another symptom of Whiskirexia Nervosa...

Looking forward to trying the 90 Bowman Rye as compare to Baby Saz, and in comparison to the PS Barrel Strength Bowman Ryes.

Damn Joe, were you worried we drank too much of your stash last weekend?

Picked up a Saz 18 with the help of a fellow member pointing me in the right direction. It was hard to pay $74.99 for BTAC stuff since it goes for $15-20 cheaper at some other stores in the area, but I have never seen a Saz 18 anywhere around here so I gave in and bought it.

It's getting opened tonight in a tasting with friends that will have:

ETL

ORVW 10/90

Lot B

2010 PHC Wheat 124.2

2011 Saz 18

2011 WLW

2011 ER 17

2011 Handy

2011 Pappy 15

Gonna be a fun evening.

I'm the same way. I don't care for WSR, even the Binny's bottles hold little to no interest for me. Still, with the age statement going away, I intend to throw a few in the back of my closet. Bought one yesterday for $18.99.

I also found an old-label Baker's. It looks like it was an export bottle. I had absolutely no chance with the cork, but I decanted it through a coffee filter last night, and tasted it. It has a lovely, sweet caramel entry, a decent palate and terrifically spicy finish. Distilled in '85, bottled in '92: Baker's first batch.

After trying WSR a couple of months ago and being relatively unimpressed, and after reading the positive reviews that Weller 12 has received around here, I pulled the trigger..taking the last two in the store for $19.95. Very impressive stuff, especially for the price!

Had high hopes today as I was told by one of my sources that they had dug up a Weller 12 (All the liquor distributors are closed this week, so many stores wind up digging up some old stuff to fill in space that was previously forgotten), which has proved to be something of a unicorn in New Jersey bourbon lore.

Unfortunately when I got there, nobody could locate the mythical bottle of Weller 12. But I did find an ORVW 10/107, an equally rare find... in this part of Jersey at least, so there was no way I was leaving it behind.

I have my first 4R SB coming my way next week. Also headed to the store today to see if any cool stuff has turned up. Probably grab some baby Saz, see what sorts of Weller and Rye they have on the shelf.

Probably grab some baby Saz

Better grab more than one...a shortage is on and none on immediate horizon.

Just now ordered 3 2010 Parker heritage. 2 2009 mariage 4 roses and a weller 7 yr 107 proof. I love online whiskey hunting!

My online order of 2010 Eagle Rare 17 and a 2010 Thomas H. Handy arrived today and were put in my bunker. I have yet to locate any of the 2011 release except GTS which I have open on my bar.

None of the good stuff ever gets to my area of Southeast New Mexico.

Which of these would you start with?

I'd start with the Mariage and proceed to the PHC 10. Two pours of each is just what the doctor ordered. Treat yourself.

Another bottle of VOB BIB. Muy last bottle had a small whole, and it seems to have all leaked out overnight.

OF Signature and Dickel #12. Both appeared this week for the first time ever in Ontario. Pretty sure neither are going to set any hearts racing, but it's always fun to get something I haven't tried before.

Also grabbed an EC12. My last few bottles have been hit and miss, but I finished one recently that was an Ace. The one today had the same 4 numbers stamped on to the bottom of the bottle as the good one. Not sure if that's a tried and true method of determining quality, but it's better than nothing. (18/77 42/09 for those keeping track).

You done good.

I think that OF Signature is a fantastic and inexpensive whiskey. One of the great "bang for your buck" bourbons available. I think you'll like it.

Cheers!

Grabbed 3 bottles of Weller 12

Yeah, I grabbed one, too. I also talked to the owner about buying a case. He said if I pay cash, I can get a case for $11 off, which would come out to about $240 and change for a case of 12.

I'm not wild about dropping that kind of coin at this point, but neither am I wild about the idea of ever walking in there and seeing it for $40, or only seeing it as Lot B at $50, or not seeing it at all.

Picked up a bottle of Old Charter Proprietors Reserve and bought several 200ml bottles of Old Charter 12 down here in Houston. Never heard of the OCPR before but had good reviews on here.

If I could buy a case without the girlfriend yelling at me, I probably would. Well, maybe 6 W12 and 6 OWA. And I wish I could find Lot B for $50. The store I got the 12 at had Lot B for $90 and ORVW10/90 for $80. I wanted to walk out, but it's the only place in the area I've found 12 for $25.
