The last few nights it has been anything will less than two drinks left in the bottle. Damn, the recycling garbage men will wonder what fun I had this week when they pick up the glass bin from my curb! cool.gif

I just took a trip to the recycling bin to check it out empties of

* WL Weller 12 yo

* Old Fitz BIB

* Wathens

* ORVW 10 yo

Can you guess that I am cleaning out the cabinet making room for my next trip to L'ville in 10 days? lol.gif

For the record, tonight it was a drink of Wathens after dinner and then a drink of ORVW 10 yo just a few minutes ago. wink.gif

Bill: For the last two years, Randall's has sold the Ezra Brooks S.B. for $15 a bottle during their annual January sale. Let's hope George does it again in 2004!

I was thinking the same thing BP. That's when and where I got my last bottle, and really took a liking towards it. yum.gif

Hey if you are up for a bit of a road trip, New Hamphire state liquor stores sell Ezra B quite reasonably ($18.99 and no added tax!). I asked at the store in Nashua I went to and they said it is widely availabel across the state.

While we're on an Ezra pricing kick, I must chime in that I observed this past weekend in Seattle that Old Ezra 7yo 107 sells at Washington State LCB stores for $13.95, including all taxes. Old Ezra's a fine bottling to have around at all times!

Bummer, Bill. In one year not so long past, I lost the fuel pump on my Alfa Milano the very week after the extended warranty died. Of course, replacing a fuel pump on an Alfa Milano requires no less than a full day of shop time, so I was not a happy camper.

I'm pouring an Ezra S.B. to you tonight. Hope tomorrow's a better day.

One positive of being in Ohio, the state price on Old Ezra 7/107 is a damn fine $11.95, all taxes included. It is often my everyday pour!!

Amen to that, I will pour my last drink of Ezra B in your name as well.

At $11.95, Old Ezra has few peers in the everyday pour category. I'd better visit Ohio again soon!

I recently finished my first bottle of rebel yell and I was very pleased. The smell was very intriguing. I couldn't keep my nose out of the glass. My wife thought I was a nut.

Just started on my first Old Overholt. Very nice over ice.

I have always been a loyal Tennessee whiskey drinker but am now doing research in Ky.

Today I had a taste in the third of the three bottlings I picked up while on vacation, OGD 114. It is definately a good bit drier and spicier than most of the other bourbons I have, but I dont get any of the rockiness in the finish (maybe a little on the tongue) that some people do. I was moving away from having my bourbon on the rocks, but this one (as well as the Henry McKenna SB & Booker's I got on my trip) seems well suited to it. I bet it wwould make a great manhattan, I might just have to try it drink.gif.

Wild Turkey Rye from my Wild Turkey shot glass, neat.

It lacks the smoothness and subtlety of the best in class (do I need to ID it?), but it is quite drinkable neat, perhaps more so than WT 101. (To my taste, I can't say the same about Jim Beam rye or Old Overholt.) It also has enough pungence to make its presence known when mixed with ginger beer.

Someday as an experiment, only one time, I promise, I will try VWFR rye with ginger. My guess is that the ginger would overpower the rye.

If it turns out that way, would that make Wild Turkey rye my all-around favorite? Probably not, because I drink rye neat about five-to-one over mixed.

BTW, I managed to break the cork of the WT rye bottle. I have just a little nubbin of cork that barely closes the opening without falling through. That's never happened to me before.

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield

EC 12 yo. I was formerly in the camp that that did not care for this bourbon. But, when I was in B'town in early May, I had a glass in the presence of our own Bobby C and Bettye Jo. How could I not order a HH product after Bettye Jo had given my family the red carpet treatment? Bobby provided the same royal treatment, but he doesn't work at HH. smirk.gif That drink that day tasted mighty fine, the first time I had liked EC 12 yo.

Today, I bought a bottle of EC 12 yo ($14.15 before tax). I still like it. grin.gif I've been looking for a new daily pour since Old Forrester 100 fell off my short list. I think I have found it. cool.gif

Call me converted. I now really like the EC 12 yo flavor. It no longer seems medicinal. It seems rich and complex.

There is one difference, though. Being summer time, I have changed over to "one cube only" in the snifter glass. Maybe this had something to do with it. I am at my parents' house in WV tonight, so I only have one snifter. When I get home to NC, I may need to do a side to side of EC neat and EC with a cube.

I'm also enjoying a glass od EC12. Unlike you I have enjoyed this one from the beginning, so I'm glad you have come around toast.gif

I think you'll agree with me that with EC12 and Weller 12, you're covered for most of your daily needs yum.gif

Blanton's (barrel no.63, warehouse H, Rick No. 6) 132.7 proof, unchillfiltered. I picked this up today at a gun show because I thought (correcty) it would be a great item to open for Independence Day. toast.gif The nose is incredibly complex and evolves much more than the standard Blanton's. bowdown.gif The palate is a bit hot compared to Stagg, but not so much as Booker's. I intend to follow this with some Stagg. tongue.gif

Having a break from drinking for now. I'm being a good boy at the moment and quaffing my "vitamin" drink. Some of you may have heard of it - George Dickle.

Gives me a wet nose and shiny coat to boot. Good grief I feel great!

I was wondering if anyone would question that... I actually had to order this bourbon from Europe. The retailer's courier would not ship to Nevada because I could not produce the "required" liquor license or import permit. I talked with the Nevada Department of taxation who directed me to the code section which clearly exempted my personal consumption from these requirements. I emailed the retailer the link to the appropriate Nevada Revised Statutes, the email address of the contact person and her phone number. The still said they "couldn't" do it. I had them send the shipment to a friend of mine in Southern California a couple weeks ago. He called me this week to say a friend of his would be doing a booth at a gun show here in Las Vegas this weekend and could bring the shipment. So I went to his booth as he was setting up, and "picked up" my shipment. Long story, but I figure for Blanton's at cask strength (on Independence Day) it was worth it!
