Pre-fire EC12. Such a strange beast but I've really come to like it. Nose is total heaven, caramel, vanilla, a little alcohol. And the taste is thick, rich, sugary rye fire.

Late '80's Barclay's Bardstown 80proof, opened for about 6 months. Rich, and a bit fat in texture, in a nice way.

My first sip tonight gave me an "O" moment. FRLE1B 2012 made me stop mid-sentence to slip away with a most exquisite sweet buttered corn hit at the end of the palate and into the first part of the finish. I literally had an out-of-body experience where my nervous system slumped as it took in the full experience.

Opened my first bottle of HW Son of Bourye. I'm getting a nice sweet bourbon on entry, slight rye. Then kickass rye, slightly sweet on the finish. I'm digging it. Can't wait to try the Bourye, waiting for me in Indiana

I'm having a before dinner pour of Eagle Rare 101 (L'burg) courtesy of a friend who stopped by an estate sale. This thing is pretty great. The nose smells remarkably like one of those root beer hard candies (the ones shaped like a barrel, remember?) It's not overpoweringly sweet, but some reality nice brown sugar/burnt sugar notes, balanced out by the 101. The oak seems to show up later, both in the nose and on the palate.

I'm looking forward to comparing it to another ER101 I have coming my way via the generosity of a fellow SB'er (thanks, Halifax!)

I'm enjoying a sample of the Party Source Abraham Bowman Rye that was sent to me by a kindly SB member. Good lord, it's tasty and I'm kicking myself for not buying a bottle or two when it was available. I don't always enjoy BT ryes because I often pick up on a dank, musty flavor that overwhelms everything else. But in the Bowman rye, this mustiness is almost gone, replaced with nutmeg and baking spices. Gorgeous stuff.

Do you pick up that dank, musty flavor in their bourbons? I'm having an Old Charter 10 while trying to help the wife (and failing miserably) with her work and it has a dank, earthy flavor. I like it, but it's not something easily described as desirable...

Two weeks from today I will be married. I've decided that the next two weeks leading up to the big event will be bourbonpalooza. A different bourbon each day keying on the rare, unique, higher end, etc. Began tonight with BTSOP #167, have a '71 Old Weller 107 for the big day. I find myself getting over excited about the wedding, the bourbonpalooza is a way to slow down, take a deep breath, enjoy the time leading up to the big event vs foucusing solely on it and missing the enjoyment of the build up.

Thank you. I am very blessed with Karen, and while this sounds a little sappy, in two weeks I'll be in Savannah marrying my best friend. It is hard to not get a little sappy thinking about it.

I decided for my birthday I was gonna open a couple bottles. I'm starting the night with a pour from a 2009 FR Mariage! This IMO is a GREAT bottling as it show some age which isn't a typical trait that I get from FR's bottles. This one happens to blend my two favorite yeast strains as well...K and O!

Next up for opening is a WTKS Pewter from 5/23/01...I'm really excited to get into this one as I had a pour from a sister bottle at the sampler and it a GREAT Turkey...incredibly deep and spicy! :cool:

Getting married in Savannah? Beautiful city. Great place for a wedding. Additionally, that also qualifies you for membership into the Georgia Bourbon Society!. I guess, double congratulations are in order!!

We both have ties to Georgia. She spent summers at her grandparents' in Macon and I was stationed in Augusta for Army training. My oldest son was born while at Ft Gordon.

So any whiskey bar recommendations for Savannah?

Second night of bourbonpalooza. WT 8y/o mini. Nose is heavy charred oak and caramel. Body is huge, very rich,toffee, maple. It is flavor overload, very sweet and very spicy all at once. Karen described it as warm and cozy. Why isn't this available anymore?

Followed with some SB blend, my everyday goto pour.
