CADMixes
Lucked my way into a retail price bottle of VWFRR. No lists, no lotteries, no having to know someone. Even a blind chicken etc. etc.
WAINWRIGHT
Over the last week managed to score PVW15 x2,PVW20 x20 and a lonely ORVW10 107 all from fairly local stores. The VWFRR never seems to become available in this area. The search goes on......:hot:

skidfive
2010 Thomas H Handy. Found it in the wild, my first "specialty" bottle.Side note, after being in this store 20 times I saw on the top a vintage 17 bourbon (green label). I was reading that some had more of a rye content and then some in the alter years were mainly wheaters. Anyone have any info on that?

skidfive
thanks for the info on that. I appreciate it. I thought he said $100, which seems high, but it is CA and it is a smaller store.

Kalessin
Henry McKenna SB BIBFirst time having this. It's been collecting dust at my local spot for 2 years. $24 seemed like a reasonable price for a 10 year BIB single barrel.I'm curious to know what you think of it... I've been slowly working on a private selection bottle (from the "Loch & K(e)y society", which is run by Julio's Liquors, a store in Westborough MA) of Henry McKenna 10yo SB BiB, and it's been pretty good for $25 on sale (marked down for $30). LostBottle
After passing on PVW 15 & 20 a couple of weeks back, I managed to grab a Saz 18 which makes me feel a bit better and gives me something to sip on.

smokinjoe
Headed out today for what I hope is my last biz trip of the year. Of course I reserve the right to recant that wish, and leave for wherever when the in-laws are in town for Christmas.... Decided to make a few stops and picked up: Private Barrel ETL Old release Lot no. 40 Smooth Ambler Old Scout Rye A Bowman 17.5 yr 147.5 pr. 375 of Corsair Spiced Rum. Drinking the ETL now, and it is deliciously full of brown sugar, toffee, and just a whisper of orange on the finish. :yum:
BFerguson
it was a pretty good day today, a half day of work, a last dinner date with the misses before the latest family arrival and some bourbon showing up at my door. The bourbon came way of My Other Mule, who is really here for the latest arrival, but is willing to do the occasional transport. :grin:In the box of goodies lay some EH Taylor Barrel Proof x2 and Binny's Willett 8yr x2, plus a little something extra-Thanks man!Appreciate all the SB'ers that made it possible-Much thanks Guys. bigtoys
Taking a recommendation from last night's chat, I went to Binny's south loop this morning and grabbed an 8 yr old Willett. Gotta admit, I like it more than the 21. Lots of flavor, even with the relatively high proof. Nothing wrong with a low bottle number either, if it's there. Tucker
[hand-waving freakoutery] Walked into a new store in my county and cleaned them out of their stocks of Weller 12. Every last bottle. Cost me $22.99. [/hand-waving freakoutery] There was an empty shelf section with an upside-down sticker reading "Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year $49.99". I would have passed, then again I might have bit. I'm a little perturbed with myself for not going in sooner.

I walked into a store while on vacation this past summer and saw the vast openness where the entire VW product line used to be, all at retail prices no less. Hope I have the gonads to open it one day. And thanks to one particular SBer who alerted me to its existence in a liquor store in Germany.
