I know some see some of these high prices as a bad thing, but I think in the long run these crazy price swings will move the profiteers, shelf clearers, and trend followers out of the market and provide future stability. We may wind up paying a bit more, but hopefully bottles like ECBP will find a sweet spot for pricing and become a stable available bourbon.

I think I also agree on this and I think it is starting already within the value chain, prices are going up.

But I rather that they produce so much good stuff like ECBP while keeping the prices reasonable. So if there is enough supply of good things at this price, people would not need to buy all this crazy high prices on supposedly premium stuff and things could come back down to a more level headed level. Not likely. If ECBP is constantly on the shelf at even around $60, I would happily drink this and forget about anything else. But I think they would meter it out even if there is ample supply. Why would they hurt business by flooding the market but also I do think they are trying to routinely release this as we have seen which I am thankful already.

I'll do my part to help market stability by buying the reasonably priced versions.

I agree, Hugh. This whiskey is well worth $60. I'll continue to be all in at that price. Can't say I would forget about anything else, but it's underpriced currently, IMO.

I can forsee the future having this juice and the normal EC12 as single barrels...it is coming. Why not? What is to gain by doing a small batch? Profits should all remain the same, they are not getting more juice one way or the other, the only thing that would change is consistency.I think the alure of a single barrel is much more appealing. But alas I suppose the price would have to increase because of it. I say this after just aquiring some EC12 SB (private selection) This juice is incredible,I have been a long time EC12 user, no comparison, maybe a little in the nose. Having a pour as we speak, been eyeing up that sealed bottle of EC18 for quite awhile, maybe, just maybe it will be next.... Prohst brothers!

Oh yes, all six came home with me. I'm keeping a few, and a few buddies want some also.

Good call! You will make your buddies happy too!

I have a store select EC12 single barrel now. It is quite good.

Doofy question: if I enjoy ECBP, would Bookers be a good substitute when I run out?

I've held out on buying Bookers @$60+..

I'd by lying if I said that Booker's takes the place of ECBP. Most bottles on the shelf are going to be a bit more than half the age of ECBP (coming in 7 yrs give/take), and true - it is high proof. I've not done a sbs between the two, but reckon I would prefer ECBP by a fair margin. But in terms of finding a good high proof rye bourbon, Bookers isn't bad. I don't get as much chocolate as I do in ECBP, but it is there. Buy a 50 mL of Bookers (larger stores should have those, and it probably runs you $5 or $6). If you've not had it before, much better gamble than a whole bottle :)

I love ECBP and kept trying to like Booker's but don't. Read all the reviews and tried it twice. Second time last week.

EC 12 is a better bet. :). I've actually never had it though. Or McKenna 10 yr bib which I have and not quite as good but close.

Tiger, I have both EC12 and HM10 and I will be excited to break them open.

HM10 looks excellent, and I wonder if it is not very much similar to EWSB - same age, same company, single barrel, however HM10 being BIB is very attractive. I'm finding myself enjoying higher proofs lately.

I think EC12 might become a regular for me if it's near as good as the Barrel Proof.

I'm hooked on ECBP. It's making lighter bourbons seem watery to me for the moment.

Daryl a 50ml would be great, I'll keep my eyes out.

I think I had drank EWSB 2003 and 2002 and they are nice but thin to me. I found McKenna 10 bib to have a nice nose and more complex taste, thicker and more chewy. To me only, I found it to be much better than EWSB. There is a slight off note for me, other than that I was surprised how much I liked it. A friend told me to try it and I was are you sure?

Try it and let us know what you think.

Cheers

3 bottles of batch 4 came home with me today, the first of any batch I've seen around here. After having a 120.9 and 127.6 from the gift shop last April, I'm really looking forward to these.

Nice haul, just hope I can snare one. Really like batch 3 which surprised me since I don't especially care for EC12.

I realize that doesn't make a lot of sense but it is what it is.

To add to this recommendation, the store selection Henry McKenna 10 BIB single barrels that I have been lucky enough to try have been excellent, and generally seem to lack the fusel off note I have seen in the standard offering. I have one open right now from Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits in Annapolis, MD that compares VERY favorably in flavor profile to E.H. Taylor Single Barrel at less than half the price. Now I don't think that particular store selection shares a ton in common with ECBP's profile, but it is a testament to the quality of a good Henry McKenna barrel pick (or the inflated price of EHTSB, depending on your perspective).

I really wish Heaven Hill would start offering store pick SBs of ECBP as an option. They already offer the EC12 store pick SBs, not sure why they couldn't offer the same thing in at barrel strength. ECBP is highly sought after, so I expect this would make everyone happy. Distiller does less work and can charge more, the store gets a premium/collectible feather in its cap, and the customer gets a great bourbon at a reasonable price. Seems like a no brainer to me.

This just in..

*cough* there's been a recall on all batches of ECBP. Please forward any remaining ECBP to me for proper disposal and a prorated reimbursement on the remaining whiskey. *cough* *cough*

;D

I would love for ECBP to become a year round available staple. Even if it meant I had to give up another HH line of whiskey, maybe EC12 or something...

It could be my imagination, but I feel like I notice the added water in my other whiskeys now....

The Hm10 store select that I have currently open is spectacular! Knew it right from the very first pour.I will always be on the lookout for these. As for the EC store selects, just as remarkable.(Have almost a case bunkered) When talking to the store person that actually did the pick, (himself and 1 other person)he said they did EC12 2 yrs. in a row,but now HH has pulled EC12 from the barrel selection due to low stocks. He told me that he tried to get them to bottle half as a BP and the other half as EC12,but was told they could not do that.No idea why. I bet it would be great, like I stated in another thread,it's coming,(ECBPSB) it has to, it's the next step.

Speaking of Henry McKenna and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof... I've been enjoying a 1:1 vatting of the two, along with a bit of water. The dry, cocoa flavors I get from better bottles of McKenna (this one's a store selection from K&L) punches right through the heavy, richness of the Elijah Craig. The combo is really sweet, but with plenty of wood and that cocoa to balance it, and the result definitely rings my bell. The only issue is that the finish retains the weird, grassy taste I pick up from McKenna. I was hoping the barrel proof Elijah Craig would hammer it into submission, but it survives -- at least when I add a splash of water. And without the water, the combo is still pretty hot. The overall result is very chocolately, with the exception of that funkified bit in the finish.

Anyone else tried this?

I'm pretty sure Batch 4 has arrived in Indiana - a friend of mine works for one of the bigger chains (not sure exactly which one) and is *hopefully* going to put aside a bottle for me.
