The Double Crooked Tree is a pretty good beer, but around here you never know what to expect since they don't bottle date the stuff (unless that's changed recently). I try not to buy anything hoppy that isn't dated.

Double crooked tree is great for aging. A huge malt backbone makes it stand up to time. You can tell the 2013 (which was released in January) because it is only 12% while previous years have been 14% abv.

I agree that dates are important but some people take it to the extreme just like they do here with bourbon.

An Ahyan OX muled some of my favorite beers to me at KBF. Savoring the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, tonight. :yum: Luv me some Great Lakes brews.

Avery Twentieth Anniversary IPA… very nice pour with lots of pine and citrus, notes of pear up front, then a mildly bitter finish.

It's not Bo and Luke, but I'm drinking an Anderson Valley Bourbon Barrel Stout.

What do you think of Anderson Valley in general, Jim? I see it around, am always tempted, but can't seem to pull the trigger. For no other reason than....well... I ain't got no reason...:D

We get several of their beers here - I know I've had the IPA, Amber, and Oatmeal Stout at least, but none of them have really grabbed me. Not bad, by any means, just that there are plenty of others I'd rather drink.

As for this Turkey barrel stout, it's kind of unique - pretty much every other barrel aged stout I've had has been a pretty high gravity beer, where this one is only 6.9% ABV. The bourbon flavors are prominent, but it lacks the rich thickness I usually get from a beer of this style. Enjoyable, but not what I was expecting.

Thanks. I think I remember seeing the Turkey Barrel Stout on a bomber. I get what you're saying about it. I'll try it though...well...cuz...it sez bourbon on it! :D

Far be it from me to discourage that (typed as I happily move on to the second half of the bomber.) This is good beer.

A good friend muled some Goose Island Harvest Ale and Oktoberfest to me at KBF (notice a theme here?...:D) Settlin' in to a day of football on the radio with both. The Oktoberfest is really on the mark, so far. Creamy, malty, and with a touch of sweetness. Harvest Ale is no slouch, either. I'm thinking that if the temp cools off tonight, and I get the first fire going in the outdoor fireplace, this may be my accompaniment with my Padron. :D.

Thanks, T!!:toast:

Last of a six-pack of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale from last winter - I think this got better with some time in bottle.

It usually does. Looking forward to trying my barrel aged on with a year or so on it.

Having a Drie Fonteinen Oude Geuze right now. Damned super fine Lambic.

An Artisan Ales "Prairie Bomb" it's probably the best thing I've poured this year.....I'm a Stout fan and this is nothing short of perfection.

Drinking an Epic Utah Sage Saison, not my usual style but very enjoyable. One of the bartenders at Epic described it as "like eating Utah dirt." Delicious!

Finishing off the night with a '12 Bourbon County and I hate to say after the Prairie Bomb earlier I've been ruined.

Continuing trend as the seasons turn as I am now in stout pounding mode and the KBS is really hitting the spot tonight.

Returned home from a long driving trip, and trying to put the flames out of my arse with a Spaten Oktoberfest. It's serving it's medicinal purpose decently, but compared to the full harvest of luscious American craft Oktoberfest (and other) releases that I have been harvesting lately, this beer really pales in comparison. Always fun to pick up my yearly sixer of it anyways, though.

Schlafly Oatmeal Stout. Not bad stuff, but not nearly as good as Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout, imho.
