Four Roses 2013 Small Batch LE

Michigan is receiving the Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition 2013 (125th Anniversary) this year. 144 bottles for the entire state.

Yes, I would chalk that up to BS, like I'm doing to Kakos Guy's statements. Somebody posted in another thread that 200 some bottles were coming to the state. I don't remember what the exact number was but it was oddly specific which leads me to believe that it was accurate.

I've gotten two in California and both places (8 driving hours apart) have told me it's the only bottle in California. Yeah, sure.

But this year has been insane. Regular store got one only!

We were talking specifically about the state of Michigan.

Barrel proof store selections have not been available in MI, but they popped up on the liquor control list as of December 1st (as did the FRLE Small batch, which was what prompted the discussion of when it might hit stores in MI)

I don't doubt that there are a number of different FR BP's around Atlanta at the moment! The two I noted are just the ones I have recently acquired.

The guy at Kakos said he was offered one by the distributor but he turned it down. I can't fathom why he would not want to do one, but I don't think he's much of a Four Roses guy.

Is it something they have to be offered? I've been working on talking a guy on the west side of the state to do. He is reluctant because 4 roses already comes in a single barrel and doesn't know how it will sell. I haven't been in since a BP version hit so going to keep trying. I'm really hoping for the 144 bottles since I've never seen a FRLE on the west side of the state. Most stores over here don't know about it, is this an allocated thing like the VW line or something that can be ordered if in stock?

I don't know, but I would imagine that if a retailer asked about it the distributor would do it. I can't imagine why not.

These store owners here baffle me sometimes. I thought the days of people sleeping on Four Roses were over. I guess I was wrong!

The store owner of the shop I frequent has been asking to do a FR barrel selection for a while now and the distributor told him there is no possibility to add an additional store because the supply is so limited currently. Not sure if that is truth or just the story they are spinning.

A store I just stopped at asking about the 125 said he had an appointment next week with a rep for a private barrel. He asked what recipe I'd like to see, but he didn't think he wanted barrel proof since it would be harder for him to sell.

Also according to him it sounds like the release of the 125 maybe a small one. Sounded like the red wagon is the only one in Macomb that is getting any. 3 bottles and they are being delivered on Thursday. He was supposed to get some but they reneged.

I hope you end up finding some. Not all of the sb barrel proofs have outrageously high proofs. Some are between 105 to 110.

both of my dealers have now moved the reg Smb and SB $to $99 and $90. I guess they know they aren't going to get anymore LE's and they can get the $ from the reg.

Unless I make a road trip to Atl it will be YL for me.

Hope not but easy enough to see how it would happen. E.G. I don't know much about bourbon, but hear how great the Four Roses Small Batch is this year. Stop in my local and see the Small Batch at $85 or $90 and that's what the article said it should be so I buy it, try it and wonder what all the fuss was about. Didn't know enough to look for "Limited Edition" or 125th on the bottle and the shady retailer sees me coming a mile away. If its priced premium it must be premium, right?

Agreed. I went into a store last week asking about it, and the manager was like "no, we got that back in the summer and sold out." And then was like - oh the small batch, we have that. Sigh. I ultimately had to pull up a picture on my phone to clarify.

I wish they would bring back the mariage name...or do something new with the name.

Preach. Stores have difficulty deciphering between the small batch and single barrel, and between the regular offerings and the limited editions.

I remember reading somewhere on here that 4R scrapped the mariage name for confusion issues too. I don't think anyone knew how to pronounce it. True story: I was in a nice bourbon/cocktail bar in San Francisco and saw that they some prior editions of the LESmB, so I started asking the bartender about them, and decided to order the "09 mariage". He then gave me some sort of strange looking cocktail. When I looked at him with confusion, he asked me to clarify what I had ordered. Apparently he had made a mariachi for me, which I didn't even know was a drink.

Apologies for digging up this old thread, but I'm hoping someone can post the proportions of the 18 year OBSV, 13 year OBSK and a 13 year OESK used in the batch. I read in another thread here that it has been released although it's more of a general guideline. On another note, I sure miss this even though I have 4oz left and a bottle in the bunker.

Thank you. That sounds like a simple mix, I was expecting a varied proportion based on the flavor profile.

Was at a tasting this evening with Mr Rutledge and he indicated that is ended up about 20% of the 18 yr old.
