mbroo5880i
Great summary Gary! It was interesting and encouraging to read your comparison of WTR101 and Ritt DSP-1.I am also focused on ryes today. I started with Jeff10, next up HW Double Rye, then WTR101. I am really starting to like the Jeff10!

Paddy
Enjoying my first ever pour of the Willett FE 4 yr. My first impression is...HELLO!!! It does not come gently into the night, but boldly kicks the door down in a rush of what could be described as sensory overload. You know, kind of like a kid in a candy store who cannot decide where to start. This is definitely bold and loud, but in an ever so sweet candy/spice bomb/mouth tingling pleasing good way. It is going to take me a while to figure this one out. Hell, I may even have to study late tonight.
jeffrey r
Well said Paddy about the WFE 4-year. Right on point with my first impression. Pretty special stuff imho.
KySalesRep
After letting the dog out and feeling how cold it is outside, I couldn't stay away from the 2013 THH. This is a great way to warm up on a cold night!

Conquistador
Enjoyed several healthy pours of Jeff10 throughout MNF. That 49ers defense really locked down the Redskins offense!
Paddy
Went back to the WFER 4yr tonight. This is a good adolescent rye with a great sweet nose, but my bottle definitely has a strong alcohol burn on the initial taste. To remedy, I added a cube in an attempt to take the edge off it. Not bad, but I think a cube was too much water added. It just took away too much off what is a great (and extremely long) candy/spice bomb explosion of a finish this rye has to offer. My next move will be to add a water, drop by drop, until I find my sweet spot. Edited November 26, 2013 by Paddy
Kyjd75
Opened a bottle of HW Rendezvous last night. Immediately I remembered why I like this so much. Very full body taste, not overly sweet, smooth easy finish, absolutely no alcohol burn.
GaryT
Nice pour of HW 16. Wish I would have known about this stuff when it was on the market, but thankful for the chance to taste a sample!

oke&coke
Decided to revisit my bottle of VR21 after a conversation about it. This thing is spicy wood bomb. I paid about $120 for this thing a while back and glad I did. I won't be buying the other one on the store shelf however.
GaryT
Started a blind sbs of Jeff 10 (batch 3, NCF) and Jeff 10 (batch 51, appears CF). Unmistakable which is which just looking at them in the glass (so literally closed my eyes and re-shuffled, nosing/tasting with them still closed). Still a no brainer as to which was which The rich, creamy mouthfeel of the NCF version is just incredible. I still really like the new version, and the flavor profile is quite similar - just cleaner and more crisp. Glad I still like the current version, but absolutely will be keeping my eyes open for earlier batch numbers.

I left one on the shelf. I then saw two more on the shelf at another near by but less shopped store today. I had not seen the NCF version until recently. I plan to go back and buy another. Old Dusty
So my son (yes he's 21) was curious about that bourbon/rye in the liquor cabinet. I figured before he and his buddies dumped the good stuff into the coke I should educate him a bit. We did a wheater/rye bourbon/ and straight rye side by side. After he tried the Jeff10 I sampled, I also poured him a Hirsch 22 as well. As usual youth is wasted on the young. He much preferred the wheater bourbons to anything else. He guessed the Hirsch22 was about 180 proof and made of wood shavings. So there you go.
TheOakMonster
Decided to pour a 50/50 blend of Willet Family Estate 4 yr and Laird's Apple Brady Bottled-in-Bond. Seemed a little crazy at the time, but I thought the flavors would complement each other quite well. And the verdict is... pretty damn good. The Laird's 100 pf does a nice job toning down the Willet' minty/eucalyptus and adds a nice fruity component. Laird's also adds a nice sweet and charred barrel influence to the blend as well. I don't know about the one that I left on the shelf or the other two that I saw today. The early batches were all NCF and had the sticker. I don't know when the switch to cf occurred. I have a 12 that is Canada and NCF and a 41 that is Canada but filtered.

It is good to know the cutoffs for filtering and Canadian. This is a great rye. I love it. Crown has a store select that I am told is closer to 13 years but it appears to be the newer version since it is not marked NCF and it doesn't indicate that it is Canadian. I am sure that I will buy one of those at some point just to compare. :grin:I started out with some HH6Y but switched over to the Jeff10. Happy that I did! :toast:

Mine didn't have a sticker, so not sure what the rhyme/reason for the stickers were - but it would be nice to know which batch # the NCFs ended with. If the cutoff is 12 then I should go back for the other bottle and also check the other two (which were labeled NCF) to see what their batch number is. Of course, this could all be overkill on my part since I might the filtered just as well. I won't know until I try it. I just know that the NCF is pretty darn good.
