Do you think the folks at Mclain & Kyne could or would tell us? If the cutoff is 12 then I should go back for the other bottle and also check the other two (which were labeled NCF) to see what their batch number is. Of course, this could all be overkill on my part since I might the filtered just as well. I won't know until I try it. I just know that the NCF is pretty darn good.

Maybe but wouldn't count on it. They don't seem to want today much about what they bottle.

A nice, heavy pour of Saz 18, perfectly suited to the day. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you are all in fine spirits!

Sipping on some AE Rye on this Thanksgiving - the profile on this just lends itself well to the holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!

Variety night again, had a couple pours of RB12, then a couple of True Blue, but settling into the ryes now first with baby Zaz.

Shared some Saz18 with a friend from out of town last night. Nothing makes a great whiskey better than sharing it with an appreciative partner.

Moved on to a vatted rye blend I have in a decanter of Hirsch22yr, Saz18, HW21, Rendezvous, Double Rye and Ritt100...(it's really good).

HW Rendezvous.

This is tasty stuff. It's expensive ($71) but I may have to stock up before they disappear from Ontario.

Leopold Bros. Maryland Style Rye. I was really hoping to love this, but it's not doing it for me right off the bat. I'll give it a few more chances before I right it off though.

Moving on to some Ritt100 DSP-354. now that's the stuff.

It's young right on the nose. Gives way to some floral, fruits and hint of cocoa, but just fleeting.(edit: reading old thread on this rye and it seems to eerily match my initial mental notes). What doesn't do it for me is the younger whiskey background to it all.

It's a similar reaction I've had to other younger craft spirits I've had the opportunity to taste, particularly whiskies, like those at Finger Lakes Distilling. Well made, but still maturing. Maybe it's the newness of it, or just that it's different from what I'm used to and what I usually drink, maybe it's the equipment and barrels, I don't know. What I do know is that it's got a lot of flavor and I'll look forward to see if it grows on me and I'll be happy to pour it for anyone interested.

I've found it gets better with some air time... I was initially disappointed with Lot No. 40. But a few months later tasting it side-by-side with some Old Overholt '77, I came to appreciate it.

After working all day on Christmas lights with a few of my car buddies we opened up a bottle of Lot40. A very easy drinking rye, smooth but a rather short finish. I prefer a bolder rye, but I think this will be good for sipping with more junior whiskey drinkers.

Well I do believe Miss Kristy could provide that "real bourbon taste" but I don't think Mrs. TunnelTiger would approve.

Shared a few small pours of the WFE 4 yr with friends yesterday. They wanted to try the rye before we ventured to a football game, but didn't seem to care for it much. Oh well, more for me...

One that note, I think I'll have a pour.

^Man, I love that stuff.^

Tonight I cracked open a Masterson's Batch 3 I found. Actually didn't know which batch it was as it was in a sealed box, but the price was right so I grabbed it.

It's a nice pour. On the nose it's sweet and inviting. The palate gets that initially very odd kind of bitter greens flavor, described elsewhere as tumeric or mustard. I definitely get the mustard greens, almost overwhelmingly. Nice little finish, but nothing epic. At first I thought the odd flavor was going to make me dislike it, but after a few sips it grew on me and added to the complexity I thought. This will be one I enjoy coming back to. I may even pick up another batch to compare it to, I've heard good things about the 5.

Moved on to Jefferson10yr batch 76, which is a super easy drinker but didn't hit any notes worth mentioning after the Mastersons.

Moved further on to a Hi-time selected Jefferson10yr, sans batch number, which I am currently enjoying very much and disappointed I didn't buy a couple more as it was a great price. Sweet and spicy in all the right places, nice pleasantly long round rye finish.

only question is, what's next?
