smknjoe
Generally agree. I picked it out easily on a double blind. Like em both but a touch richer on the 93 proof. It's a Shame this isn't a 100 proof offering.Definitely a shame, because that would mean Mr. Lee was with us another seven years.Too bad they didn't go with the original 107 proof. Three proof points is better than nothing though...I guess...

cowdery
There has been a lot of disinformation lately about ETL and the Commemorative has only made it worse. One retailer told a customer the brand is being discontinued after the commemorative runs out because Elmer is no longer available to pick the barrels for it. I've heard several variations of that from people. This is what retailers are saying. It's ridiculous. The 107 proof version was only available briefly. Age International released a whole bunch of different labels at about the same time, all in what I call an olive oil bottle and at 107 proof. There was an Ancient Age version too. The current proof was introduced with the current bottle.Especially now with AAA 10-year being discontinued (that is true), we need ETL more than ever. smknjoe
Yes there has been a lot of mis- and/or disinformation. Thanks for the info Chuck. Even though brief and in a different bottle, wasn't 107 the original proof?
cowdery
I guess I was a little ambiguous. Yes, the first, brief iteration of ETL single barrel was 107 proof.

fishnbowljoe
That is a pretty cool pic Joe!! The middle bottle happened before I got into bourbon, which bottling would that be if you don't mind me asking?
DogfaceSoldier
Any idea how many bottles were produced? I got a bottle in 2012 - someone had returned it to a liquor store. I saw the employee put it on the shelf and I took it down before that bottle had a chance to get comfortable on the shelf. Who knew people "returned" bottles to liquor stores? cowdery
The 90th was a very small release, probably only a few hundred bottles. Most were given to the guests at Elmer's party, and whatever was left over went to a few stores in Kentucky.Funny thing about that party. It was the birthday party for a 90-year-old man. It ended at 7:30 PM.

It was just on the shelves with other bottles of ETL. I'd like to get a commemorative bottle, but I've not been able to find one.
elmossle
The middle bottle is the ETL 90th Birthday bottling. Great story behind that bottling. The folks at BT asked Elmer to pick x number of really good ETL barrels for a "very special" customer. He did. They tricked him. He didn't know that he was picking the barrels for his own 90th birthday bottling. :cool:Stories like this make me wish I had gotten into the "game" a lot sooner than I have. Thanks for the info Joe. dcbt
I'm pulling my hair out here in IL trying to track down any type of ETL bottle..almost hopeless and has me thinking enough and move on to something elseI sometimes wonder if enough people feel this way, if they just start seeking out alternatives. So much so that when BT products do appear back on shelves, if people have settled into their new choices and just ignore their old. The full pendulum swing would result in the new choices now being short and BT products being in excess. Only time will tell, a very long time at that in all likelihood. bourboNcigars
To a point I have moved on, I got into this hobby to relax and enjoy myself and it at time contradicts that reasoning getting frustrated not being able to track down a bottle..takes the joy out. .so to a point I do move on and give up on it..I know some people enjoy the hunt and I do to, to a point atleast..but I try to find products that I can enjoy on a daily basis and find the appreciation In them..In what's widely available. .so that I can drink as much of it has I want and to share without fear of will I be able to track down another bottle. .but I understand some folks love the hunt and to each his own
Quantum
I am a big Elmer T Lee fan, and I have been looking forward to this one for a while. Over the past several months, my anticipation has faded a bit as I put my energy into finding alternatives. I have put my feelers out at all my usual stops, but at this point I am not going out of my way to track any down. I'll buy some if I see it, but I already invested my time, energy, and money elsewhere. I have bought at least 10 different bourbons looking for something to replace ETL my rotation. Some were brands I had not tried recently, while others were completely new to me. Then there were a number of bottles that I did not purchase as direct ETL replacements, but I would not have purchased them if I knew I had a steady supply of my old standby. I didn't need a couple extra bottles of 2012 PHC or AE rye, but I wanted to have a few bottles I knew I could rely on. I probably wouldn't have worked as hard to acquire several FR private selections either. I will always like ETL, but I have a lot of bourbon to drink before there is any room in my rotation. I had her on the lookout for the past few weeks. She comes in town tonight actually, but if she's carrying any ETL in her bags she has kept it a secret. BonVivant84
I can say with a good degree of certainty that ETL and ETL Com. has not hit NY yet. Have a few places who said they will be holding some of each for me and haven’t heard from any of them yet, nor have I seen it in my usual places (or anywhere upstate I stopped at over the weekend.) NJ got a ton of it a few weeks back and I was able to stock up on some reg ETL, but the ETL Com. is still elusive for me.
