What bourbon did you pass up today? Spring/Summer 2014

what IS MSRP on these? was it $70

I thought $79.99. But I could be wrong. That's the only price I've seen it for in my area, including Binny's which usually prices right at MSRP.

yeah, Ive only seen it on a shelf once, and it was $79.99. I tried it at a restaurant once, and liked it fairly well, but $80 is damn near two Dickel 9's, so I dont see myself bringing any home. That said though, if I were into 20 year old whiskies, $80 is a steal these days. But, it doesnt taste 20 years old either...

I keep passing up Stagg Jr. Batch 1 at a local place. Keep hoping to see Batch 2 show up .

Also I've passed over Barterhouse so many times now, it's laughable. There are now a dozen bottles sitting at MSRP at my grocery store. Maybe in 5-6 months they'll knock 30% off.

That seems like a good price, as Doug noted. Maybe after trying this, folks have decided to wait on the next batch of orphans to show up. :searching:

Yeah, I have also passed on Barterhouse numerous times. The price is typically $79.99 but I have seen higher. Much like Doug, I can get a favorite or two for the same price so the pass is easy.

I did pass on ETL Comm in Fort Wayne. I wish all single barrel offerings would include a barrel number so you could determine whether it was a barrel you like. I opened a recent ETL Comm and I love it! I would buy a few more of the same barrel if I could find them.

I too, have passed on it numerous times. And from what I've read here, seems to be a decent pour for an extra aged whiskey. All the hokiness aside, I also think it is fairly priced. But each time I'm about to pull the trigger, I think I could buy these instead for the same 80 buckaroos:

-8 bottles of HH BIB 6yr

-4 family sized bottles of MC

-almost 3 bottles of FRSB

-3 bottles of OWA SB, and still put some change in my pocket

etc, etc, etc....

3 ECBP batch #4 i believe. Have batch #2 & #3 open and a few already in the bunker so decided to pass at $50. Silver lining was that this was at one of my local grocery stores and i was totally surprised to even see it there, so hopefully it's a sign of good things to come for their selection.

Give that a try! IMHO; This is one of the few NDP offerings that is usually reliable; and usually a very nice pour, if you like a little age and a lovely nose. They don't give it away; but not many quality pours are being given away any more. I always have at one open, and at least one back.

The BOTM for JBW had me craving a bourbon & Coke at dinner (other than the one I made for the BOTM tasting, I bet it's been ten or more years, maybe 20, since I had one). The bartender usually has JBW stashed to use in "experiments" but was out. Skipped the MM and mixed Bulliett & Coke 50/50. YUM. Shades of college which was so long ago it, too, is in the shade.

Passed on a GTS 2013 and an ORVW10 2013 for $400 a piece. It makes the 2013 Saz18 for $200 I passed up at the same store seem like a steal. Right in front of the Saz18, they taped a print out from the whiskey exchange saying it was sold out to try to justify the price.

I like it but I wouldn't rush out and buy 3 bottles of it. Its a little different you may or may not like it.

This is the correct approach. I never buy multiple bottles of anything I haven't tried myself first, even if it gets rave reviews here.

Now as for Ezra B to me was wasn't bad, wasn't good, just meh.

once i was at a restaurant and ordered a flight of bourbons....an ezra b 12 year and noahs mill and some other bourbon. I distinctly remember that I was certain they were sourced from the same place, as ezra b tasted like a lower proof Noahs Mill. So, I guess what Im trying to say is that if you like Noahs Mill but would like it a bit lower in proof, grab the ezra b.

Not sure about 3 of them, but it's a quality pour for $30 or about. I had just a sample at a LQ recently and could drink it all day. It's HH juice; pour it next to an EC12 blind and see which one you like better.

Bought 3 ECBP 67.4's today and passed on the fourth I found. Yes, HH is now hip to the fact that people will buy the hell out of the stuff even if they raise the cost to retailers by 30-50%.

Last year, stores here would put the full 3-pk on the shelf and it would take 4-5 days to sell all three. Now they're doing one at a time on the shelf or none on the shelf and instead putting one on the "look at these, they're special" shelf behind the counter.

Personally would have a hard time walking from the Saz18 even at $200. Knowing that it is something that will never be replicated when it's gone and the fact that it is one of my favorite pours, it would have been a hard stare at the shelf for 20 minutes for me. Would have been a healthy debate in my mind and a roller coaster of emotion. Might have tried the cash out the door negotiating ploy with management. I do agree on the GTS and ORVW at $400, I'd pass.

I know it wasn't necessarily a completely awful price, especially since I think it's selling for even more on the secondary market. But I'm not personally a huge rye guy so I wouldn't pay more than retail for Saz18. I know it's a great rye and people love it, but it's not really my thing. Plus, I really don't want to support this store by giving him that kind of money for it and I know the guy wouldn't take a penny less. I don't know where he is getting these limited releases either because the store never had them until about February and he has been pricing them progressively higher
