I passed MMCS @ $60 a 750ml. Yeah, I know that's around msrp, but it's just regular freakin MM with a little more proof. I still thought about it. Then I spotted OGD 114 @ $22 and bought two. That's more like it.

Well played, Paul [emoji6]

I think that is what most stores thought. Usually there will be an email about it from the store I go to, or it will be put in the glass case, but they were just put right on the shelf, with no mention of it. I like that it flew under the radar and I actually had the opportunity to find one.

That was a mistake, and that was very lucky for you and the few that were able to buy it, especially multiple bottles.

Passed on more overpriced LEs at a new to me liquor store near my house. On the bright side, they have a great selection of scotch at relatively non terrible prices.

Unreal is one word you could use to describe it. My word: dumb. Just plain stupid.

I agree that that is stupid. Just like the fact that www.budgetbottle.com is trying to sell OWA for an online price of $359.95 per 750ml.

Took a walk through Astor's today to see what was around and ended up leaving empty handed. Gotten to the point where I'm officially done with this store. For as long as i've been buying booze they have always been the best and most fairly priced in this overblown city, and now they are just jacking everything up. After tax they are selling regular Eagle Rare for about $50 (and now behind the glass case for rare spirits???) and they had some Old Scout CS that was close to a $100 and a Old Scout CS Rye for just over $80. The latter 2 are now cheaper for me to order out of state and pay for shipping. :smiley_acbt:

That's unfortunate. Although I've never been to the store (actually, have been probably 6 years ago but wasn't into Whiskey), I routinely browse their website for new items. Guess I won't even bother stopping in next time I am in the city.

Eskwar, After just finishing a bottle of Old Bardstown, it's one I'll definitely pass in the future. So much better bourbon available for $30 or less.

I hear you on most fronts about Astor. It's gotten to the point where I pass up virtually everything at Astor, particularly since I am able to do most of my whiskey shopping locally in NJ. Working in Manhattan though, I do make the trek down to Astor once every few months. They do carry Old Ezra 7/101 for $20, and Evan Williams BIB for $18, neither of which are available in NJ, and both of which are excellent budget bourbons. So I generally pick those up when I am down there, but that's about it.

There is no reason to think it will taste worse to you simply because it now lacks an 8 on its label, though. Contrarily, it may taste better for you. Personally, I didn't care for the 8 yr, either (dry, sooty, and astringent). And, that is precisely why I will be buying a bottle of the new...to see if Fred Noe and their tasting group has seen the same, and rectifies that...

That said, I totally dig on the new Beam Bond, do I'll be happy with that...

I'm with you on this one, Joe. I mixed away the last JBB I had. JBBIB, however, is a winner on all fronts!

point taken. at 86 proof, im still not buying it though. Beam's stuff I like, but water doesnt seem to do it any favors.

you and mosugo have convinced me to buy a JBBIB though. Next weekends 3 day social event will see me bringing a JBBIB and a Dickel 12 to it to contribute to the bourbon table.

Passed up a bunch of Baby Saz, I've got quite a few in the bunker but I kept trying to justify that I needed a few more. Bought a WTRB and some beer and got out of there.

I saw a bottle of Whistlepig Old World at $120. I've never had any Whistlepig stuff but it all seems pretty pricey.

passed up 750s of MMCS for $62, Booker's big man/small batch (or whatever theyre calling it) for $52, and a shelf full of OWA for $24.

I stopped in hoping to buy a JBBIB (which I did buy), and a new non-bourbon Ive read about.....Alberta Rye Dark Batch, thats supposed to be 91% canadian rye, 8% OGD, and 1% sherry. Ive not seen it anywhere yet, but at 90 proof, it sounds interesting enough to try.

Man, I would have been all over it at that price. It's always over $60 in these parts

I want to pick up a bottle of Bookers but they go for 65-80 by me.

Why so expensive?
