Not alot of people drinking bourbon lately. Much troubling.

I always find January to be a slow month. Post festive & holiday season, and the heat (here in Brisbane) doesn't lend to a favourable drinking climate for me. Of course, today's the first day of February, so...... :)

I recently cracked open a Weller 12 year. Quite nice, has the wheater profile I like, somewhere between Van Winkel and Makers I guess. After the last few bottles being quite high alcohol content, this makes for a nice mild pour, easy to drink neat, though occasionally ill throw some ice in depending on my mood.

Has anyone seen or heard any news regarding parker's heritage 8th coming here? Would like to try it :)

Picked up a litre of Kentucky Gentleman a couple of weeks ago. Not sure on this. I bought it because it was a Barton product, then read some early reviews here. The bottle I got is a straight bourbon (4yo I think) and is bottled at the typical Aussie 37% ABV.

Found it at an independent bottleshop on the Gold Coast. Apparently it's imported semi-regularly, but I'd never seen it (here) before.

Had a spectacular pour of Heaven Hill Special Select last night, followed by some Makers 46. For a barrel proof wheater, I can't believe how easy the HHSS is to drink....

Bought in the US?

Yeah, a group barrel buy from the US :)

How many bottles did you get? Knocking back Heaven Hill Old Style tonight. $10 in Japan. Grabbed a bottle of Virgin too this evening.

Still cursing the bastardisation of Evan Williams we now suffer here.

Three bottles. Spectacular stuff! 8yo wheater that was aged a further (not quite) 2 years in used Cognac bottles and bottled at barrel proof. It might be non-chill filtered as well, but don't quote me on that. If you're ever in Brisbane let me know...... I'd be more than happy to share a pour of this (and several others :))

Opps, yeah, I meant barrels  None of the HHSS2 made it to Australia. I imagine they'd be an awesome side-by-side!

Sounds great. Will definitely take you up on that. Cheers.

Heaven Hill Old Style. Probably knock off the bottle tonight (probably 200ml) - need to unwind.

Yeh us poor suckers drinking all that 'macro' bourbon have no idea. Thankfully some good bourbon is about to hit our shores

I hit up a small out of the way bottle-o today and to my welcome suprise I found two bottles of Bookers from the early 2000s, batch B95-C31 @126.7 and 7yrs 9 months.

I already have one of these opened which has been nursed slowly, I hope these are just as good because man, I aint really a beam fan but this stuff is pure gold, the current release has nothing on it.

On that note, any thoughts on the latest rare breed?

I dont mind it, but cant help but feel that the higher proof is trying to mask some younger whisky.

About to mix up a 'Dirty South' cocktail thanks to a recipe from The Silver Dollar published in a recent Bourbon Review edition. It's basically a Manhattan with smoked bacon..... or at least that'll be my take on it

Only have an old bottle of Rare Breed so can't comment. Enjoying a Henry McKenna (4R) at the moment.
