What Beer Are a You Drinking? Fall 2014

Its the "Nightmare Before Christmas" at my local bar - lors of big heavy beers. So far I've had half pours of Even More Jesus, 2013 BCS Barleywine, 2012 Big John, Not the Stoic, Big Liscious and North Coast Old Stock. And a couple more to go before my wife picks me up. But we had the Blues game at noon and now the Tigers are on so a great day with good friends.

Tomorrow could be an unpleasant day though...

What did you think of the Big Lushious? I've been trying to decide if it's worth $15 to grab a bomber of it.

Its extremely sweet, almost too sweet. Think of Creme Brulee but add fruit to it. It was good, but even 5 oz was almost too much. if I was drinking it iutside by a firepit on a chilly night or it was my last beer of the night it would have been perfect. I've got a bottle already and this might end up aging for a year to see if it levels things out.

It is a dessert beer. Drinks like a chocolate/raspberry cake.

Many are complaining about the abv/cost ratio. It is a very unique beer. Executed with perfection IMO.

Knocked down a couple barrel aged stouts while cranking out 25 pounds of snack sticks for the kids today. Bourbon County's Coffee Stout was really really good.

I tried the Founders "Backwoods Bastard" last weekend. Very good. I was told it is their Scotch Ale aged in bourbon barrels. Not sure if that is true, but regardless it was a great beer.

Yup - that's what it is and agree that it is extremely tasty stuff. Alas, my supply didn't last very long and it's not on shelves near me any more. My usual bar has it on tap (for now, at least) after an event where most of their taps were taken up with big, heavy, glorious beers. I might have to swing by tomorrow evening to have a glass.

Was able to get a couple of 4 packs today of the Backwoods Bastard. Left a couple on the shelf. If locals are interested PM me.

I'm nursing a Bell's Eccentric Ale tonight. This beer was a collaboration between Bell's and the brewmaster from Firestone Walker. It was released during Bell's annual Eccentric Day last weekend and can only be purchased at their General Store. It's quite unique - there's a lot going on in this beer.

I also attended a tour of Bell's production facility. If you ever find yourself in southwest Michigan, definitely check this place out. They did a really good job with their tour.

I bought some Bell's Java Stout this weekend and loved it.

Been keeping stocks of Nutcracker Ale from Boulevard and St Bernardus Christmas Ale as they are 2 of my favorites for this time of year.

Tried some Wintersoltice from Anderson Valley and wished they served it year around....great stuff.

If you see it, try their Special Double Cream stout. Outstanding stuff. Very smooth, easy to drink stout.

Green Bullet by Green Flash Brewing. Oh man was it good. 101 IBU's and 10%. I love imperial IPA's, and this is now one of my favorites. Tons of pine and tropical fruit, and smells like Amsterdam. Next up is their double called West Coast IPA.

Anchor Steam Winter Wheat. Very nice change of pace after a steady diet of porters and stouts in recent weeks.

Still waiting to hear from you guys on the East Coast about the recently re-launched Ballantine IPA. I read somewhere that distribution into other markets throughout the rest of the country will depend upon how well it sells back East, so get drinking dammit!

I got a five ounce pour of CBS last week as well and it definitely deserves the hype. OddSide's Hipster Brunch stout is quite similar.

Heh heh - just might be! Barleywine after bourbon should be a nice combo though. I just picked up some more North Coast Old Stock and this sounds like a good enough reason to open one (and put the rest away to sleep for a year or two ...)

Yes. It is Canadian Breakfast Stout. Founders quietly distributed 1/6 and 1/4 barrels of CBS to Lansing, MI pubs about two weeks ago. It has been slowly released elsewhere in Michigan since. No bottles. I don't know if barrels will be distributed outside Michigan.
