Bernheim 7 yr, followed by W12.

On a wheat kick?

My after dinner pours: EC12. Wasn't tasting right this evening, I thought that maybe the Indian takeout we had for dinner had messed up my palate, but the Baker's I had next tasted fine. Now into some OESK with a little 4RYL splashed in.

Finally, a chance to relax a little on a weekend morning.   The last few weeks have been a busy blur. One thing after another. Alongside my second cup of coffee this morning, I'm having a nice (and the last from the bottle) pour of ORVW 10. :)

Cheers! Joe

I don't know why, but yes...  as I draw my first sip from a three finger pour of MMCS.  :D

Enjoying a nice, inexpensive pour or two of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (EWBiB)

Paddy's posts over the past week or so have convinced me that I should be enjoying OBSQ.  So, that is what I am doing.  Thanks for the indirect suggestion.  I have had this bottle for awhile and just never thought to open it.  How does that even happen?

BTW, I am proofing it down less than when I opened.  It is slightly over 120 proof and I am keeping right around 110 proof.  Definitely, the sweet spot.

Most of us here have that problem, too much readily available!

But that one... once it's out, it sure is hard for me to put it back up.

Opened a bottle of ec12 last week, and had another pour last night. I have to say I'm not impressed. Although It's too early to judge it, I don't see what all the fuss is about. The nose and taste are very closed up at the moment, and there's a bitterness in the taste. Looks like it needs some air.

Maybe this will improve when they drop the age statement, and it becomes a blend of 8 to 12 year old juice, seeing as the sweet spot for bourbon is 6 to 7 years.

The majority here disagree with you. Just goes to show that all palates are made different.

I agree with bdrinker. If I want to taste that much char, I can lick my fireplace for free ;)

I also gravitate towards the 6 to ten year old bourbon, although I can understand how it can be an acquired taste, or how some folks just enjoy it more.

This w/e was a very nice pour of an OWA store pick that I am rationing as it is so rarely seen. I really enjoy this one and as I sought out OWA only to mix up some SB blend it is not one that I had purchased when it was readily available. I don't know if my OWA is indicative of the standard profile or this is just a nice store selection but I really enjoy it.

Also a bit of EWBiB because it still new to me and I wanted to a/b with one I know I love. It was enjoyable as well, held its own and continues to impress me. A fine weekend of pours.

Here we go again. There is no such thing as a sweet spot regarding age. It depends on what the aging plan was for the barrel in question. As I always say, if you think 6-7 years is the sweet spot, I'll happily relieve you of your over-oaked GTS, WLW, or Parker's Heritage 27 year.

Went to a tasting over the weekend.  All ten Four Roses recipes were on the table with duplicates of many.  Some Four Roses LEs and some dusty Turkey, Taylor, OGD, and OC also appeared along with some rum and mezcal.  The old 8yr Turkey was my favorite.

I do think everyone had their sweet spot on amount of wood and barrel char. Where that is depends on the person.  How that relates to age depends on the barrel.

REALLY enjoying SAOS 7 year tonight, about half through the bottle--great balance of sweetness, spice, and oak character.  Will be moving on to (already poured) scotch, but if that wasn't the case, I would stick to this for the remainder of the evening.

ETL to begin the evening. Tasting just fine. About as good as I remember. Moved onto MMCS. This is the bottle that has been tasting grassy to me. My palate is in a good place tonight so I was hoping the MMCS would shine. There have been numerous good reports lately about MMCS but I have an earlier batch that hasn't been great. A fully attuned palate does make this batch better, though a little bit of grass remains. This gives me hope for the later batches I'm hearing good reports on.

Having a pour from the final third of a bottle Van Winkle 15 year from 2014. It's improved along the way, I must say.

Steve, My MMCS 15-03 has been nothing but drinking elegance.  Rich and full, with no grassy notes detected.  Also, I feel that it is more refined than current W12 or OWA.

I'm starting off with OF BIB tonight.  We'll see where it goes from there!
