Having a very good pour of 1792 Port. I'm normally not a fan of finished bourbons but this is one of the better ones I've had.

How much port do you taste? Any sulphur notes? I've had bad luck with these (port finish in general, not 1792 specifically).

Its there, but very soft. I get some port on the nose, and very light on the palette, but enough to now it's there.  To me the bourbon that was put into the port barrels was very good bourbon, not some bad barrels that they were trying to hide with port flavoring.

I'm a big fan of 1792 Port.  I definitely pick up the port finish, probably moreso than LCWoody it sounds like, and for that reason I like it was an after-dinner drink, or a fireside pour in the winter, etc.  I don't drink a lot of 'finished' bourbons; my only comparison was the HHSS that was finished in cognac barrels - I didn't pick up any of the cognac as a point of reference.

That's why you have to buy one and try it. I have a friend of mine that said the same thing.  Everyone's pallet is different.

Tonight I'm starting off with some WLW, makes a crapey rain afternoon seem ok.

I am a big fan of 1792 Port Barrel Finish also. To me it's better than Angel's Envy.

The night is wheated. OWA to start and then Larceny. OWA is not only a great value but a great whiskey irrespective of price. It has much less burn than the 92 proof Larceny, which is no slouch in its own right. Most of my wheated bourbon experience is with the Weller line, and the Larceny doesn't have the soft smooth flavor I usually associated with wheat. I get much more of the wood flavor on the Larceny in a good way. It reminds me of the flavors I've been picking up lately in other HH brands EC12, ECBP and HMcK10.

Once a month or so I have that urge for bourbon and Pepsi. So tonight it's EWBIB and that little 90-calorie can Pepsi. What can I say, bourbon and Pepsi was my drink of choice during my running around time decades ago. Just an old taste from a less domesticated time.

Didn't finish my bottle of EC12 last go round.  Tonight, it did not survive, poured the last few fingers into a rocks glass with a 2 inch ice ball.  I haven't had EC12 on the rocks before and it isn't holding up well.  Still good, but not swaying my EC12 judgement.

All really good stuff here.  I like EC12, Larceny, OWA, 1792 Port, and would kill for WLW.  Tonight not much: EWSB, NM, Pure Kentucky XO.  Trying to get through the bottles.  I do like them, but I like others better at their respective price points.  On the whole, there are far worse tasks to be complete in life.

Went with larceny, followed by weller special reserve (trying to kill that bottle....then sticking with the owa).

Birthday celebration (my B'day was Thursday) delayed until this afternoon so as to allow participation of my Daughter and Son-in-Law, and Grand Daughter, of course...

I started a bit early with a pour of HHSS SB Pick #1 (one of my all time favorite pours!), followed by a pour from a dusty OF86 from early 80's, which was shared with an appreciative s-i-law, then a dusty WT101 from about '88.

All very nice pours and well enjoyed by all.    That Old Forester was as good at 86 as most of the last half-dozen vintages of OFBB.      Too bad those are getting so expensive and so damned hard to source.

Happy belated birthday. Sounds like a tasty evening

HW Campfire to start - we've gotten 1.6 inches of rain since midnight so I needed something smokey since my wife won't let me grill in the rain.  Tonight - just a little WT101.

WJ10 - going down waaaay too easy.  Tough day on the range today, so I needed a couple of drams.  Will try it again tomorrow night for some critical tasting notes.  Sorry, but to bed now.   ;)

Started the evening with some friends that sold their business, with some Willett 23y 108p that I've had for just such an occasion. Now I'm having some WTMK 17y. Both great bourbons.

Started with HMcK10 BIB. Didn't taste right tonight. Palate is off I guess. Followed with ECBP "no clue what batch". Now we're talking. Palate like this one just fine. Going with what works so I'm on my second pour of that.

A nice pour of WLW 134.8 this morning.  This is too hot, ethanolic, and woody neat, but a few drops of water works wonders. I wondeer if there's a reason why the WLW 117.9 is so good.

Enjoy the day.
