Moving on from the HW.

A solid second tier. Not recent, original.

Had some CRNH and then a taste of BTEC made with oats. Got a strong leather taste from the BTEC. Not unpleasant but unusually strong. The CRNH was really nice.

Just finished a pour of OWA. It's been at least a year since I've had some. I hope this starts showing up on a regular basis again.

Julio's (Loch & K(e)y Society) Blanton's selection. Extremely good. Almost gets me over the ridiculous work schedule that put me in Louisville about a week before the Sampler.

You're brave to drink the oats. That was a dog of a whiskey. I thought it smelled of pee'd on barn hay.

Even Hansel advised me to dump it. I did, and didn't feel bad about doing it.

Ah, memories.  Back in the day, that's what Carling Black Label Beer tasted like - I LOVED it when drin king legally in Washington DC when I was 18.  It was years later that I figured out what that smell was.  High West did an oak whiskey (which I have a few inches of, still) that evoked the same memories.  I STILL love it.  But then, I like oatmeal, too.

Tonight (coming back to reality), I had a diluted OGD 114 (down to about 98) and followed with the remains of JB BIB to free up some shelf space.

RHF elegantly finished the evening.  I hope everyone is having a large time over in Bardstown!  If I didn't have my sons prom and track meet (both tomorrow), I'd be there!

Started with some EC12, but have not moved over to the wheated side with a pour of MMCS 15-04.  Hadn't gone to the MMCS in a while, but I'm reminded why I really like it.  The sweetness on the nose is just what I was looking for tonight.

Glad I could hit the way back button for you.

Tonight, I'm sipping a glass of PHC 13 wheat, I think it's the one for me, hopefully I was able to score two bottles of the second batch.

Cheers !

Found the most recent Smooth Ambler Single Barrell release - 10 years and 52.5% ABV - bottled 03/25/2016. Bought two at $61 ea OTD - flavor notes nearly identical to the SAOS7 standard bottle but with a bigger "kick" of spice.

When I first saw it, I thought 52.5% was kind of low for a 10 year, single barrel, cask strength from Smooth Ambler.  But, after my first pour, I am convinced that this is just the perfect spot for this particular barrel.

As always, a very well done bourbon pick from the good folks at Smooth Ambler.

Currently have a SAOS10 SBCS that is 44.7%. Most SAOS10 SBCS in my bunker run between 50-57%.

Enjoyed some GTS 138.2 last night after a long day of working cattle.

Been relaxing today and enjoying some ETL.

44.7% - and they call it "cask strength"? wow, that's not even 90 proof!

Had a nice run last night.  Russell's Reserve SB Rye, then opened my Metzke's Select, 4R SmB LE '15, then finished up with Bakers.  And a phenomenal Pinot Noir.

Some SB blend tonight.

Cracked open my first bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel 110.  Gents, it is fantastic!  The nose is smoooooth with no ethanol burn and loads of vanilla.  It coats the mouth like a light oil and tastes like sweet and spicey perfection.  The high proof is so very well disguised.  The finish tails off, leaving you wanting to start the process all over again.

Having my first pour of Tom's Foolery. It is very different. Tastes like some of the small barrel bourbons I've had, but I believe they use full size barrels.

Hanging out with good friends playing some pool and listening to music while sharing some good bourbon, ECBP, pre-09 PVW15, Orvw10, and Rath.
