Hi,

Michter's 10, not good, is it the 2015 ?

2016. Could be a barrel variation, but for me the quality has dropped over the past couple of years. 14 > 15 >16. Also noted that the colour is getting lighter each year (side by side compared). Again, could just be barrel..

Lots of people are saying the same thing, i'm gonna crack open my first Michter's 10 tonight, mine is from 2015. We'll see. I'm trying to get my hands on a 2014 or an older version, i've missed one recently from an auction, i've heard they're great.

May I ask how much did you pay for it ?

The leading theory is that the older Michter's 10's had much older whiskey mixed in. My tasted buds agree with that theory. I tasted some '14 Michter's 10 double blind (no idea what was in the glass) and thought it tasted like the Jefferson's 21yr old I had at home at the time. Also thought it could be EC18 (at the time, I had never tried EC18, I was just trying to come up with some names of older bourbons that were available at the time.) I haven't tried any since then but have heard quite a few people say that it's getting progressively worse each year. We all know what's happening in the whiskey world so it's not at all a stretch to further theorize that those older stocks are no longer available, or, being held back for the 20yr expression which they charge a lot more for.

I'm within striking distance of finishing up my bottle of ER10.   I've had this bottle probably 12 years or so, which tells you how quickly I go through BT products.

Long day…so I started with some CETHBP and then followed that up with some WTRB. It was just a higher proof day and quickly becoming a higher proof week. Can't wait to see what I pour tomorrow night.

I would agree with that theory! Will be skipping future releases unless something good happens. Got a couple of '14s tucked away for good measure.

I pulled a Stagg Jr. (129.7) out of the bunker and dove in.  Big chocolate, leather, ripe fruit , thick mouthfeel and a viciously long tingling finish!  My first rodeo with Jr. (batch 1) was not that pleasant.

I sipped neat, then proofed down to somewhere around 122-124, and it remained perfectly in tune.  This, my friends, is exquisite whiskey!

High West American Prarie. Pleasently surprised. Can taste some of the 4RSiB in there.

I've been in a rut the past few nights. (Not complaining, it was a very good rut). Blanton's, followed by OWA, followed by something barrel proof such as OGD114 or GTS or Stagg Jr or RRSiB.

Almost did the same tonight, but called an audible and went with 4RPS OESV, followed by Stagg JR. followed by.....? Thinking Booker's for the finale.

A couple ounces of Booker's in this Old Fashioned. Having tried a bunch of different bourbons and ryes in Old Fashioned Booker's is my preferred. Having a couple of these while getting ready to watch the Cardinals play my Cubs and celebrating filing my application for my Social Security benefits. Life is good and today is a great day!

My first and only taste of Stagg jr. Was from batch 1, it was a blind tasting and once it was revealed it shot to the top of my do not buy list. I may have to reconsider as many have stars subsequent batches were a big improvement. Since you had a similar less than favorable meeting with batch 1 as well I am intrigued.

On topic a pour of OWA likely the second to last and a wee nip from a WT 101 750 I purchased for an out of town work trip decanted into an empty 375 for travel. Should make for some nice post work pours.

It was yet another long, hot week at work.  It was a no brainer decision for me today for an after work pour. I'm relaxing with a couple of pours of  HH 6 yr BIB.  Ahhhhhhh. :)

Cheers! Joe

Watching the Braves whip my Nationals and finishing off a bottle of JB  Signature Craft Whole Rolled Oat 11 year.    Lucky for me the bourbon is better than the game.    Tomorrow is another story.

A long hot & humid week in the south Louisiana this week.  I'm closing it out with one of my favorite bourbons, SAOS 11y SB.

Ha!  You realize that these are the Braves you're ceding to?   In this long, long, long, year, I don't put much confidence in any Braves lead.  :D

Blanton's in my glass, here!

Goodness.  That was the Braves?  Could have sworn it was the Giants - tease the home team fans by letting them think the home team can get back in the game.  But, while ignoring the game after the 4th inning and grilling a chicken, I, too, had Blanton's.  Now, it's a short JDSiBBP with an ice cube to cool down after finishing the dishes.

After dinner... WSR, OWA and (not bourbon) Bernheim.

I also had a small sample of Town Branch prior to dinner.  My impression is that this is not the Town Branch of a couple of years ago, as this was much more refined and balanced.  A very decent pour... yet, I'm still not a buyer, as there is just too much other good bourbon to be had elsewhere (IMO).  This sample does give encouragement for the future of this bourbon.

As I'm too lazy to move over to the rye thread now, I will complete the report here for continuity.  I also had a sample of the TB rye.  My impressions regarding this somewhat unique rye remain unchanged from my initial notes in the rye forum (from its initial release).  Although it's not in my regular purchase rotation, when purchased, I've never encountered any issues taking a bottle of this down! :D

A nice 10 to 15 mL pour of Weller Centennial.  A nice Saturday morning reward for a hard week of long hour work.
