This morning I had the pleasure given by a small pour of age dated OWA.

You are much better at rationing than I am!  I think I plowed through my two bottles in less than a year.

Definitely unprecedented and an all time record for me! When a bottle is dangerously drinkable,  it disappears pretty quick in my house. I find great comfort in knowing I still have 2 bottles when this one is finally gone :)

I had a bit of a rough week coming back from vacation at the beach, though not because of work.  This is usually a tough week for me, as it contains the anniversary of the worst firefight I was involved in during my service.  One where good men died.  It also contains the anniversary of the death of a kid from a few towns over who I had the honor of serving as part of the funeral detail for about a year later.  Young kid, barely old enough to drink.  His divorced parents couldn't even get along well enough to have a combined viewing.  Well to add on this year, a former barracks roommate I had lost touch with over the years apparently let his deployment demons get the best of him and managed to drink himself to death the slow way.  He finally passed on Sunday, and his funeral was today.  A real draining week.  I'm thankful to have my wife and kid to keep me positive and on the straight and narrow.  It's amazing, the things that could stop a person cold merely cause a slight stutter step when he or she has the love and support of family.

Having a quiet contemplative drink of Heaven Hill Select Stock SB Barrel #2 for the first two, and burning a candle for the most recent casualty of war.  It's good to be alive, y'all.

Thank you for posting these very personal, and no doubt difficult thoughts.   My condolences for the losses you've suffered; as well as my heartfelt appreciation for the service you've given our nation.   And, thanks for reminding everybody how important family is to all of us.     Soldier on, Eric, and carry my thoughts with you as do.

Did a swallow of Blantons Barrel Select from Pearsons in WashDC (same proof, same rickhouse, etc., but a smoother entry and longer finish IMO than basic Blantons) pre-dinner.  After dinner, OGD BIB from the trashcan next to my TV chair while watching Nats vs. Braves and Skins Vs. Jets.

That's good to hear Harry. I picked up one when j was in DC last week. I absolutely loved the OBSK they had last year.

It is an excellent night. Went to see a movie with my wife (we don't do this often) and then dinner after. Started off with the remainder of last night's pour of Michter's Barrel Proof Rye. I fell asleep before finishing so when I woke up on the couch at 3am, I wrapped it with some Saran Wrap to save it for the next day.

Then moved onto some ETL. This bottle has been generally disappointing but for whatever reason, my palate has really been digging BT Mashbill #2 this past week so it's been tasting good. It was particularly solid tonight. I then moved onto some '12 WLW which is just blowing my doors off. Since my palate seems to be in fine form tonight, I will finish with some GTS '14. Life is short, I need to drink these.

Respect to you. My Father did two tours in Vietnam on the USS Enterprise. I've seen him battle some demons. I used to go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Cincinnati every Memorial and Veteran's Day to say a prayer for him and all the other Vets and deceased. He conquered his thankfully. Too many don't. I raise my glass of Russell's Rye to you. (I know, wrong whiskey type for this forum, but it's what's in the glass as I'm posting.) I raise it to you and all the others.

Thank you gentlemen for the kind sentiments.

In less somber news, after about 2 years in the bottle, HHSS #2 just keeps getting better.  Part of it may be that in the ensuing time since opening it,  I have come to really enjoy and absolutely prefer Heaven Hill wheaters above all other wheated bourbons and/or that I have taken quite a liking to brandy, but I also feel as though the air has caused the cognac finish to really shine.  Bright clean fruit seems to sing out in new places every time I have a glass.  Really a unique bourbon.  Glad I still have a second one in the bunker.

Another long week at work. Then yesterday, I was in bowling alleys basically from 8:00 in the morning until 9:00 last night. After breakfast this morning, I had a second cup of coffee. Alongside my coffee was a nice pour of 2007 WLW. Ahhhhhhhh. Finally able to have a morning pour ala Special Reserve.

Cheers to y'all, especially Will. Thanks for being an inspiration. ????

2007 WLW is high on the hog, just right for a nice morning pour.

I know you enjoyed that.

Edgefield Distillery's Hogshead Single Malt Whiskey.  Not a bourbon, but tastes a lot like one.  A very oak-forward nose and palate on this one.

Holding steady with Heaven Hill,  a little HMBIB tonight. A ten year old bonded  for $26...yes please!

If you don't, someone else will.  Or worse, they go to waste.

Started out with a non-bourbon, the Parkers Heritage Wheat Whiskey.  This is in the regular rotation now, as it's nearing the end of the bottle and I'm working on finishing it up.  Very solid pour.  Then switched to the I.W Harper 15 year.  Didn't think much of it at first, but I think this is one that has really improved immensely.  A big butterscotch nose and taste.  Almost makes me want to look for another one.

50g of "Artfully Aged" Basil Hayden.  Would you believe that some liquor stores still haven't changed the store label from 8-year to what it is now?

Anyway, it's a light bourbon and for me a slow sipper.

Yet another Smooth Ambler night for me.  Started with a SAOS9SB and then a couple of pours of standard SAOS7.

A couple pours of OWA this evening. Seems like a good way to wrap up a Monday.

Started with the last of my cehtsmb (wow was good, on the list to get another), followed by pikesville rye (still not on board with this one), then a small pour of OWA (never dissapoints).

I've been a bit BT mashbill #1 centric lately and almost went there again but deviated to OWA instead. Following that with some EC12.
