Harry in WashDC
I AM Harry, and I have this to say about that - What my Brothers in Bourbon (BIBs) said up there, I cannot and will not disagree with. "Stockpiling" to me means: I STILL have a fear, recognized by me as irrational, that I don't have enough OGD 114, yet, even though I have so many on hand that I'd be embarrassed to tell a fellow SB BIBer how many there are. "Bunkering" means putting aside in a safe place a sufficient number that I feel comfortable that I have enough to tide me over if rolling shortages pop up and using first in first out and replacing the consumed bottles while awaiting a shortage that may never come. Keep in mind, I intend to drink or share EVERYTHING I buy. I keep asking myself - I don't have enough 114 for WHAT?

As I've said before, I really don't need any more bourbon. I have enough to last me the rest of my life. Still, when I see something I like at a good price/on sale, I can't help it. I give in to all the speculation that I might not see it again any time soon and end up buying a bottle or two. Call it what you will, stockpiling or bunkering, but I'll be darned if I'm gonna run out of something I really like. All I buy will be for my consumption or for sharing with friends, family and/or my fellow members of SB. I've also been known to gift a bottle or two here and there. FWIW, I bought a couple of bottles of bt on sale a few weeks ago. Yesterday while my wife and I were out grocery shopping for our family Thanksgiving get together, I stopped in the liquor department of the store we were at. (One of my go to stores.)They were out of bt. What can I say? I'm sure glad I bought those bottles now. I'm also glad I left a bottle of bt at my brother and sister in laws, (Where we have our Thansgiving get together at.) and my niece and her husbands house. "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of the bourbon boom, I shall fear no shortage: for I have bunkered; my bottles and their corks are with me; my Glencairn comforts me." Cheers and Amen! Joe

And when my bunker runs dry, I'll remember your promise to share.
Scroni
This is too bad, I have only tried this bourbon once, a 2013 from what I can tell and did enjoy it (the 114 didn't do as well for me). I'll have to check around the area for some before it's gone for good! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ratcheer
I'm also hoping the rumor is false, too. To me, without going to a top-tier bottling such as Booker's, OGD is Beam's best offering. Tim

Scroni
My mistake obviously read this wrong. Still sucks as I know a lot of people like the 114... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
kcgumbohead
I like the BiB but I love the 114 the biggest difference for me is a bitter tag on the finish of the BiB that I do not find on the 114. I have been accumulating 114s over the last few months and will continue until it's gone. Damn shame that it is going away at all as it is the best of the OGD offerings. Whiskey Dick
I never really cared for the BIB OGD. I thought it would be interesting, though, when the label changed a while back, to see how long it took for the old labels to be replaced on the shelves by the new label. I found it surprisingly quick, which to me meant that OGD has a much larger fan base than I suspected. Sad to see the demise of its best, yet often unknown, iteration. whiskey buyer
I haven't heard the rumors, but I know I have not been able to get the OGD in the 1.75 for months now.
Bbstout
I think I have an OGD 114 hoarding problem. Although I am reminded on the need to stock up every time I walk by my last 3 bottles of Very Old Rare 8 year Heaven Hill and remember it was not that long ago you could find a sipper for $14. I picked up a few bottles of the VROHH 8 yr a few years ago on the way back home from a vacation out west. I wish I'd bought a few more. That was a great bourbon at a truly reasonable price. Cheers! Bourbon of this quality is a thing of the near past. This is the last quality near BP you will find for Under $20. Every time I go to the LS I have to pick up a bottle. The picture above makes me do it.

We still have plenty of fantastic bourbon to choose from out there. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You just might have to pay a little more attention to what you're buying. Naught it between $9.99 and $13.99. A steal for a mellow sipper and mixer. Like others have said, pretty cool old time label to boot! Those were the good ole days..... Gary, have you tried AAA 10* since the 36-month (or whatever it is) age statement popped up? You and I seemed to be about the only ones who thought the old 10* compared favorably to the 10-year so I'm curious as to how it's holding up. I actually haven't bought a bottle of that in a while (not because of anything wrong with it, but just for a lack of space!!)
