Having an "early birthday pour", since the lawn is done, the house is spic & span, the pooch has been walked, and all need to do before the family arrives to celebrate my birthday and my son-n-law's in a combined way; is to shower, shave and dress.    So, I treated myself to one of my faves: William Larue Weller from 2012.

I'm truly savoring the sweet caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, pecan praline, and devastatingly aromatic nature of the nose.

I think I may have time for another quick one before the folx arrive!     Lucky, lucky me!

Now that's how it's done!! Happy birthday to you sir.

Cheers! Joe

I can vouch for this blend. You knocked it out of the park Joe.

I'm thirsty for wheaters all of a sudden.........

My first taste of the new NAS Elijah Craig came tonight.  My lady friend bought me a bottle and sipping it while reclining with her made for a delicious drink. :)

I too was on the EC kick yesterday evening. Started with a couple of pours of the 12 then on to the 117. Then I was going to do an 18 BUT I forgot. I don't have any 18 or 21 or ...

However I was satisfied at bed time. :)

A good friend was in town from London last night so we went out for dinner and a couple drinks. I had a pour of Buffalo Trace at the rather grungy (and very hip) bar we went to. I don't drink BT too often as I prefer other options in that price range, but it's decent. Sometimes I find it too grassy, and last night was one of those times.

Also, the bar tender poured our drinks (my friend ordered a HW Rendezvous Rye) and set them next to each other. We hadn't been paying attention and it wasn't immediately obvious by the color which was which, so we tasted both to figure it out. I know BT and HWRR are miles apart flavor-wise, but once in a while it's nice to confirm that my palate hasn't gone completely bonkers. I should really do more blind tastings.

NC Stopped carrying Four Roses Yellow Label just as I was getting into bourbon, so I'd always been curious about it. They just added it back to the shelves this month and I'm already on my second bottle. I was initially unimpressed, but the deeper into the 1st bottle I got, the more I liked it. I think my palate had to adjust to a lower alcohol content after being bombarded with bonded and above proofs. I was eventually able to pull some great flavors out of it. A reviewer on another site described it perfectly..."Light without being weak". It is really hitting the spot right now, and at $20 a bottle I'm not breaking the bank.

First post. I'm happy to have found this forum. I had some Larceny earlier and now some Henry McKenna 10yr BiB. I've been a craft beer guy for many years. I've enjoyed bourbons and ryes, but just in the background until a recent trip to bourbon country. That helped me realize what flavors I enjoy, so fortunate or not, I'm head first down the rabbit hole.

I enjoy both of those, especially the Henry Mac. A 10 year single barrel for around $30? Get it while you can.

I love Yellow Label early in the afternoon on a hot summer weekend day. Hits the spot when I want to sit on the deck and relax after yard work or something similar but don't want to risk tainting my palate for the evening after dinner pours.

Having a couple of pours of EC12 tonight. Getting close to the bottom of a handle that I had already decanted into a smaller bottle. As I drink and enjoy this, I'm glad that there are quite a few more handles in the bunker...such good stuff.

OK, Joe - did I miss something?  What's the 2017 Sampler Blend, please?

Drinking a nice pour of the Breuckelen Distillery 77 Rye and Corn straight from the fridge tonite after turning on the Air Conditioner for the first time in 2017.  Gonna' have to back off my whiskey purchases to start paying the electric bill now!

Stagg jr. seems to be on everyone's shelves down here (MS) so that's what we're drinking. Haven't seen it in my area (MI) since last June.

I've moved off the KCSB the past couple of days, and gotten pretty far into a store pick 1792.  It won't last long!

The evening began with a good pour of some FRPS OBSQ that is 9 1/2 years old. After that fine pour, I decided to cap the evening with a small pour of HH6yrBIB. Taste buds are happy, liver is gearing up for some higher proof this weekend and I am shutting down for the night! Cheers.

I went with a 12yo OBSF that tasted mighty fine, and followed it up with a standard OBSV 50%. I haven't been very happy with this bottle, but it tasted nice tonight. I have noticed that everything tastes better after that OBSF though

A bourbon that tastes great AND makes everything after it taste great too? That's the dream.

I'm very much enjoying a large pour of Charter 101. Tastes very desserty - cherries, vanilla, caramel... That may sound like a weird combo but it's working very well tonight.

Enjoyed a nice pour of EHTBP tonight. This bottle has been open for about a year now. Intentionally! Air time does help smooth out the rough edges sometimes. This is one of those times!

Cheers,

Jeff

Bit of a light weight last night.  Started with some Basil Hayden (I know it's low proof but I still enjoy the flavor), moved on to a recently acquired OF Single Barrel and finished up with WSR.

Celebrating the end of the week with a glass of John J. Bowman.

Opened this on this rainy afternoon.  Let it set in a Glencarin glass for half an hour before tasting as per advice on this particular bourbon.  I did get a funky glue aroma while I nosed it which fortunately did not manifest itself in the tasting.  All around a nice spicy bourbon that I'm sure will grow on me as I get closer to the bottom of the bottle.

Basic BT.  Absolutely hits the spot tonight as it does most nights.
