I had a pour of Buffalo Trace at the rather grungy (and very hip) bar we went to. I don't drink BT too often as I prefer other options in that price range, but it's decent. Sometimes I find it too grassy, and last night was one of those times. Also, the bar tender poured our drinks (my friend ordered a HW Rendezvous Rye) and set them next to each other. We hadn't been paying attention and it wasn't immediately obvious by the color which was which, so we tasted both to figure it out. I know BT and HWRR are miles apart flavor-wise, but once in a while it's nice to confirm that my palate hasn't gone completely bonkers. I should really do more blind tastings. They just added it back to the shelves this month and I'm already on my second bottle. I was initially unimpressed, but the deeper into the 1st bottle I got, the more I liked it. I think my palate had to adjust to a lower alcohol content after being bombarded with bonded and above proofs. I was eventually able to pull some great flavors out of it. A reviewer on another site described it perfectly..."Light without being weak". It is really hitting the spot right now, and at $20 a bottle I'm not breaking the bank. I love Yellow Label early in the afternoon on a hot summer weekend day. Hits the spot when I want to sit on the deck and relax after yard work or something similar but don't want to risk tainting my palate for the evening after dinner pours. Drinking a nice pour of the Breuckelen Distillery 77 Rye and Corn straight from the fridge tonite after turning on the Air Conditioner for the first time in 2017. After that fine pour, I decided to cap the evening with a small pour of HH6yrBIB. Taste buds are happy, liver is gearing up for some higher proof this weekend and I am shutting down for the night! I haven't been very happy with this bottle, but it tasted nice tonight. I'm very much enjoying a large pour of Charter 101. Tastes very desserty - cherries, vanilla, caramel... That may sound like a weird combo but it's working very well tonight. M1marksman Posted May 19, 2017 Share Posted May 19, 2017 Opened this on this rainy afternoon. Let it set in a Glencarin glass for half an hour before tasting as per advice on this particular bourbon. I did get a funky glue aroma while I nosed it which fortunately did not manifest itself in the tasting.
