Stagg JR has the viscosity, richness and intensity that you would expect from something like Bookers, KCSB, ECBP etc, but in my opinion tastes noticeably better than those! I love Buffalo Trace products though.

I'm a big BT like most around here but Stagg Jr. Is probably my least favorite of the Barrel proofs or close to barrel proofs.

That being said the mix below of two parts Stagg and one part OC8YR really brings a lot of the qualities of both. Forgot who here turned me on to this but thanks.

Just got home from having dinner with friends, and poured me a glass of store select 4R single barrel OESV.

Earlier this week I finished my bottle of HH6BIB in the fridge. It was scary how fast I went through it once I experienced the fridge effect. Since I can only get these in Kentucky now, I need to conserve what I have so I put a JTS Brown in the fridge. It's a bit on the young side and comes off a bit corny compared the 6yr BIB, but it's still tasty out of the fridge on a hot day.

One bottle of HH6BIB is a standard Christmas present from some relatives to me.  I don't put it in the fridge.  No one else drinks it.  Tell me, how do you get it to last a week????

HH6BIB is legendary when refrigerated.  I also enjoy standard KC refrigerated.  However, my wife stuffs so much food in the fridge that I am afraid my bourbon will get lost in there.  I did place a bottle of KC Rye in our upright freezer earlier in the summer.  Chilled whiskey is always good.

Only because I drink other stuff. I limit myself to one pour a night of the HHBIB. Then I move one. It's the only way!

Now you got me thinking. I'm a convert to cold bourbon now. OGDBIB is next to go in there but I'll be thinking about KC now. And Beam Bonded as well.

A newly purchased WTRB 116.8 has been my companion out on the front swing tonight while listening to Braves of the radio.  First time with this proof iteration, and am struck with a significant orange citrus flavor that is not what I typically expect from this label.  Very enjoyable, though.  Surprises are a good thing.

Out of town for the night visiting my 90 year old dad who is hospitalized with double pneumonia. The Holiday Inn bar only had Jack, Jim, WR, or WT101. WT101 it is.

Joe, I'm with you on the WTRB 116.8.  Had some of that today when we had a cookout/baby shower for our daughter.  Followed that with a pour of EC SmB.

Just opened this one.  Initial impressions are excellent.  Love the intense spice on the nose

Steve/flahute is the guy on here that I first heard about it from.  However I've yet to get around to trying it myself; your post is a good reminder for me the next time I have open one my StaggJrs.  I do really like Stagg Jr on it's own though so I'll be good either way.

As Kepler said below, you probably heard that from me. I was doing this a few years ago.

I'm with you. Ever since batch 3, Stagg Jr. has been just fine on its own (with a bit of water added). I haven't done my blend ever since then. Fantastic with older batches, or, if you find current batches not balanced enough.

Agreed Steve.  To me this a significant step above WTMK17, from my recollection anyway.  I have another of the first one I can eventually compare it to, but I can tell already which one I will favor ;)

I was on the WTRB train last night as well.  Finished off the 116 proof and then opened up the 112er.

Agreed. Least favorite of high proof bourbons. Maybe I got a "bad" batch

Hmmm, LS I like to frequent got a barrel and is getting them in soon. Was going to get 2 right away, but maybe a taste test is in order first.

My bottle drinks very hot for the proof

Nothing special, but I think it is a solid pour.

One of my favorites, especially for the price...and if you come across a honey barrel, it's better than a lot of others that cost twice as much.

What proof/batch is your bottle? I think drinking hot was a common complaint with the first batch or two, so I'm curious to know if that's what you have, or one of the later batches.

Something I've noticed with Stagg Jr in general with the few pours I've had in bars (not sure which batches), the bottle of batch 8 that I have currently, and CEHT BP (127.5) is that they drink with less heat than I would expect for the proof and I have no problem drinking them neat. For instance: Bookers, ECBP, KCSB, WTRB, OF1920, all drink noticeably hotter to me. WTRB was almost unbearable neat, I had a sore throat by the time I was done with my glass. Heck some under 100 proof bourbons drink hotter than Stagg Jr to me. How "hot" a particular Bourbon drinks is interesting, I would assume that this isn't really subjective/wouldn't vary much from person to person, but maybe it does.

I've got a FR OBSK at about 117 proof, and a Whistlepig 10 store pick at 120 that also drink very easy for the proof, much less hot than some other barrel proof or near BP bourbons I've tried.
