Enjoying some FRSmBLE 2013.  I'd say "I'll never forget" but hell - I was drinking and I can't swear I remember verbatim - so I'll say I remember the gist of what Jim Rutledge told me as he signed this for me.  It was during the GBS barrel selection (where I swear, hearing him talk candidly with the group was a close 2nd to tasting the whiskey!)

 

He asked me if I knew what this was (it had recently been announced by Whisky Advocate as America's Best Whiskey).  I told him I did, and I looked forward to opening it!  

 

Then he smiled and said something along the lines of "Oh, good.  Because you know - the bottle is autographed whether you open it or not - but you can't taste the bourbon until you open it."

 

I admit - I didn't open it right away (that was April 2014), but I didn't wait very long before I did - and every pour has been a pleasant reminder of that day!  Cheers!

GOT pour is a PS, OWA SB.  This one is a very rich and very warm caramel bomb.  Winter is coming!

Ah, the memories.  I bought mine at a Jim Rutledge signing and tasting too!  The tasting was of all 10 ten FR recipes.  A classic bourbon.  I only got one bottle which is long gone.  I know a few folks who picked a few more.  It ranks in my top 5 all-time whiskies.

Finished off a KC 9-year.  It was a pretty standard KC bottle up until tonight when it hit all the right notes.  Followed up by opening up a bottle of store select ER10.  The initial pour is pointing toward it being a stellar pick.

 Funny. I went with OWA also for GOT. I didn't dip into my PS but went with the standard.

Yes sir you are correct. They tell real life story's in a fantasy world.  That line is from another T.V. show.

Tasting the HW Bourye for the first time, not bad, great nose, weird finish. Hopefully it was from a sample, I couldn't drink a whole bottle.

Went back to the old Rippy or Bond and Lillard ( I already forgot which one since I poured it...) haven't had this in more than a month since it was gifted to me. It's such a "light" bourbon in color and such a contrast to the color or the ECBP and 1792FP I've been pouring the last few nights. Still has a lot of oak on the. Ack of the tongue and a fair amount of heat. Really reminds me of a rye

Left this behind at granny's house 4 years ago. Went back home to visit family & friends in San Diego for the first time in a few years and she brought this. Those last couple pours were sublime!

The wife is out of town for a couple of days, visiting her mother.  That leaves supper up to me.  So, "the Colonel" and I decided to grill out a nice ribeye tonight!

W12, followed by OWA.  I'm loving the stale bubble gum note toward the end of the leathery finish of the W12 tonight.

The Colonel is one of my favorite dinner guests too.  The steak looks delicious!

The Colonel is always welcome at my steak grills as well. ..make sure to leave some red in that great looking ribeye..????

This is probably only available in Indiana. The first versions came out a few years ago from Heartland. They had a regular and cask strength .  They under estimated demand and sold everything and it's been at least two years since I have seen them again. This one is twice barreled. It's 90 proof and not at all hot. No water needed.  You can taste the barrel. It is well balanced and for 26 dollars it's quite good.
